Again, why oh why would you not insist upon a release clause? Brighton aren't Spurs, and there's still that implicit acknowledgement when a player signs for them that they'll let him go, but for an extension to 4+ years remaining, and presumably harbouring ambitions to still play for United at some point, why not have your team negotiate a Cucurella-numbers get-out clause, even if it costs you 5-10% less in basic salary for the next few months or until 2024?

He has no clue what that means for him in the near future. He told us during the whole phase when we negotiated, ‘I don’t want to talk to anybody else, there’s no need to do that’. He said it was a decision with the club. This was the first time in my life he’s a free agent player and he said there was no need to talk to others! So he’s not motivated by other clubs or by financial terms – far away from that. The club gave him the time as well, no pressure. And he never started to compare asking us to talk to different clubs. For us [it would be] easy but this was not his intention, it was just to find his own way. This is so far away from this normal business, believe me!
Roberto is a peaceful man and said, ‘I’ve had my time but it’s time to go. Liverpool was the biggest, greatest, most successful time of my life together with the manager, together with my colleagues, together with all of them’. It was an unbelievable journey.

Highlight:Manchester City will be in the spotlight in the summer transfer window.
- Jude Bellingham is a target.
- Bernardo, on the exit ramp.
- Laporte, uncertain future.
- Gvardiol is very much liked.
- Leão is on the agenda.

Yep plus his club's annual baby oil bill must be astronomical. The most overrated player ever. No team unless perhaps a league lower will give him regular game time.
Good question after this owner came out saying they need to act sustainably in the transfer marketHow would Liverpool afford Bellingham & Gvardiol exactly?

It is clear that when we come over here, I think: ‘Okay, it could be nice to try coaching the Premier League’. It has happened, and now I am here. And then I thought at one point: ‘Hmm, if you could get another Premier League job maybe'. But on the other hand, I’m like: ‘Will it make me happier?’ I’m not sure, because this is a super cool place with lots of challenges yet. So, I’m a little doubtful about that. I want to say that if I have to leave here, it has to be a unique opportunity.

I can see why he'd want to go there and back himself to fix their midfield, but seems like a risk compared to taking Xhaka's job at an ascendant Arsenal full of young quality players, being Madrid's quasi-#10 with Tchouameni, Camavinga and Valverde doing all the deeper work (though replacing Modric is its own risk, those fans are spoiled), going to City to play as a #8 until De Bruyne moves on and taking that job with a new Pep-style #8 coming in, or coming to us.Tier 1 (Adrian Kajumba & Sami Mokbel):

The confidence hinges on Liverpool's ability to qualify for the CL. Jude Bellingham himself wants to play for a team in the CL.
Not sure about Madrid but I highly doubt Arteta and Edu are interested in his service. He is very very expensive for Arsenal, and Xhaka is a very important player for Arteta.I can see why he'd want to go there and back himself to fix their midfield, but seems like a risk compared to taking Xhaka's job at an ascendant Arsenal full of young quality players, being Madrid's quasi-#10 with Tchouameni, Camavinga and Valverde doing all the deeper work (though replacing Modric is its own risk, those fans are spoiled), going to City to play as a #8 until De Bruyne moves on and taking that job with a new Pep-style #8 coming in, or coming to us.

Xhaka is 30 and apart from an attacking RB option you don't have any huge screaming holes, so I think your summer probably consists of signing that RB who's good going forward and then you sign a young player to compete with Xhaka, with Vieira being Odegaard's backup. Not sure about Madrid but I highly doubt Arteta and Edu are interested in his service. We need a right winger who can rotate/compete with Saka if Arsenal qualifies for CL next season.Xhaka is 30 and apart from an attacking RB option you don't have any huge screaming holes, so I think your summer probably consists of signing that RB who's good going forward and then you sign a young player to compete with Xhaka, with Vieira being Odegaard's backup.
Bellingham would obviously be a starter and probably too expensive, but you did seem to bid for Caicedo and might be a Rice bidder, so it's not inconceivable that something like 80M and Smith-Rowe might do the job now that Brandt is hurt. But yeah, more likely you sign a 20 year old midfielder like that Veiga kid or someone of that ilk for 1/3rd of the money Jude will cost.
