Messi called Pep at half time telling him to sub Haaland before he broke his record :wenger:

Unless he falls out with Pep. Hopefully he was only smiling on the bench because he hadn't googled the CL record yet.
Agreed, that’s always a possibility ….wrong end of a Pep meltdown etc

Hard to think of one during their prime, that's why they're the best.
You'll find several by looking at their international tournament record, which is one of the things their respective fans keep hammering each other with.

C. Ronaldo also, despite being Mister CL himself, went missing in a couple of CL finals.

What you can say is that from all 3, Messi is the only one that can be MOTM without scoring a single goal.
Meh, not entirely true but fair enough. Doesn't change the fact Messi has had his stinkers in CL too, even in his prime. Inter in 2010, missing the penalty against Chelsea in 2012, both ties against atletico in '14 and '16...

Ferdinand is spot on there. (If you are watching BT sports)

When you have Haaland in your team, just play to his strengths. Play the balls over the top, he will beat the opposition for pace, he will outmuscle their defenders. Slow build up play in not his game. Tonight they played his way and you saw the result. Similar to the derby at their place, they tried to play him in at every opportunity and scored everytime.

It's just kind of boring. Their owners pumped enough money into the club to let it buy literally any player at all, and now they're reaping the "rewards." Yay. What a story. What a legacy. Meh.

It remains a fact that the club is literally nothing whatsoever except that it has been made the sportswashing vessel for a human rights nightmare. That is the sum total of City.

It's impressive what Håland is capable of. In no conceivable way does that compliment extend to Manchester City as a whole.

Where's that weirdo who was obsessive in his hatred of Haaland, and assured us Alvarez would be taking his spot any day now?

Can't knock his stats but he lacks something to the football purists. Even RvN was 'just a poacher' but was miles better technically when you look at hold up play and variety of finishes and goals. Haaland seems to have an incredible ability to sense and anticipate chances, sort of an Inzaghi with the size and pace to get on the end of passes and crosses. He strikes the ball well with both feet, but not particularly special for a top striker. Doesn't have the fear factor of Thierry Henry, the play doesn't go through him like Benzema. He will do ridiculous numbers but City aren't obviously elevated by him in the team.

He doesn't have the wow factor. I'd rather watch Mbappe for example over him every time. He's just not exciting, football is about goals and he's ruthless, yet it just doesn't get the blood pumping.
