Overall play in the first half was really good but the finishing was pretty abysmal. I don't think ETH will be too happy as we should be at least 3 up and thinking about resting players in the second half.

Shout out to Bruno who has been very good. It's a limited sample size but I think CM suits him because it allows him to pick the ball up from the defence, look up and think before he plays a pass. Sometimes at 10 he rushes things and makes a mistake or tries to play too many Hollywood balls because he maybe doesn't see the ball enough and forces making something happen.

Score aside, that's probably the best 45 minutes we've had all year. totally dominant and we should be up by at least 4. Let's hope we don't regret some of those missed chances

Antony and Rashford need a shellacking from Ten Hag in that dressing room. Ridiculous. They are the reason Everton are still in this game.

Sancho has been spectacular, he's picked out loads of great passes just like for his assist, when we're playing on the front foot he can be a huge asset with his ability to unlock defences around the box

Can’t say I’ve seen us play better than that for a long time. Almost everyone on the team almost at the very top of their game. Should be up by about 4, and that’s even accepting that a team can’t score every chance.

A very enjoyable first half. Not seen us create this many chances in a long time. But for Pickfords outstanding keeping be would be 4-0 up. Bruno playing so well from deep. More of the same and surely more goals will come.

What a load of nonsense. He’s been very good - constantly stretching the play, tidy passing and very good tracking back.
Like the rest his finishing hasn’t been good. But overall peformance has been very good.

Good shot from Antony at the end. It's Everton but the players look pumped up.

I mean, you're basically just saying what I did but a bit nicer.

McTominay is a better replacement for Casmiro with the way that ETH wants our midfield to function defensively. He'll do the defensive job and positioning better than Fred or Sabitzer will. That comes with the downside that he is very poor at providing any kind of playmaking or control from that position, and neither Fred or especially Sabitzer then provide enough in that regard to make up for it as a partnership. Hence why it seems he's settled on dropping Bruno into a deeper role next to Scott to try to get that extra bit of playmaking ability, thinking that is a better balance.

It's not so much that the other three are number 8's. It's that the three of them don't provide enough on the ball. Fred isn't so bad, but Scott and Sabitzer (from what we've seen so far) are terrible.
Why not mention all three then? :houllier:

Oh, and that goal was on you! ;)

Everton’s tactics are as hilarious, our finishing is dreadful but we desperately has to score at least one before half time.

Good finish by Mct but him and Sabitzer have been poor. Bruno has shown both of them up.

    Half-time ratings
And here are your half-time ratings...
    De Gea
Could have assisted Antony if he had a right foot. 7
    Wan-Bissaka
Missed a sitter but performance level good. 7
    Maguire
Hesitated when Simms was free inside the area. 6
    Martinez
    Commanding. 7
    Malacia
Looks like a reserve left-back from the Eredivisie. 4
    McTominay
    Clinical goal. 7
    Fernandes
    Fabulous. 8
    Antony
Creative but feckless with his finishing. 6
    Sabitzer
    Thrived further forward again. 7
    Sancho
Fine pass for McTominay’s goal. 7
    Rashford
Lively but somehow hasn’t scored. 6
I think your malacia rating is a little harsh. I'd give him a 6, great pass at end of half to find Antony again, defended well but some poor passes. I think he is a fantastic back up.

    Edit: not your rating, Samuel's.

This is just silly, his finishing has been poor but he's been a huge threat and has done some great defensive work too.
Some posters have decided before kick off that Antony and Sancho have played poorly today. How they actually play doesn’t matter.

Happens, his attacking instincts have been immense today. At least he’s getting in dangerous positions. Fantastic deliveries, short passing and defending this half.
Still you can't have a 10/10 performance if you miss that. 7/10 at most.

Most enjoyable half of football for a long time. AWB settling the right back debate, DDG offering some decent distribution and Bruno doing the Bruno things you love.

Rashford and Antony are gonna end up hating each other, though. Assuming they already don’t. They refuse to set up sitters for one another.

Wout out is addition though subtraction.

Very fluid and free flowing. Excellent movement from all the front players, Bruno has been a revelation as the deep lying playmaker, Sab and McT have both been making smart runs into dangerous spots, though McT has been caught on the ball 4/5 times badly.

    Everton really terrible.

That was a great first half chance-wise but our conversion was crap.

xG does not always tell the full story but watching the game, I thought we should be 2 goals up, probably a 3-1 or even 4-2.

xG (from Flashscore) confirms it as well - 2.78xG vs 0.45xG for Everton.

One the best halves United have played for a while against one of our bogey teams at OT. Pickford having a worldie otherwise we’d be out of sight. Fernandes exceptional so far.

To be fair this is a complete anomaly for Bruno. He’s usually sloppy and erratic in deeper areas
Nonsense, he's been excellent in most games he's played there. This forum talks so much shit about Bruno it's ridiculous. Thankfully our manager knows how important he is

Neh it's been bad finishing, saves weren't outstanding. We've been poor in front of goal.

Seriously what a brilliant display. We’ve been a joy to watch. Very happy with our much maligned wide players too. Bruno has absolutely run the show in midfield

I think any keeper saves all those shots. United hunting them straight at him hasn't helped.

    Where the grass is greener.
comfortably the better team, genuinely should be 6 or 7 ahead.

Have to hammer them in the second half, they’re begging for it.

Get Martial on, make use of him while he’s fit and still here.
