So have chelsea in general. But with one year on his deal left and chelsea having to sell, who knows if utd would be interested? We cant get frenkie. Bayern have said gravenberch is not for sale this summer. Im personally not sure whos out there and potentially available as a CM who fits ETH's of a ball carrying CM who cam dribble and can break a press. Kovacic as 'garbage' as ges been for chelsea might get back to tge player madrid signed. Or not.
Can’t think of anyone? Not even the man ETH tried to get last summer and who’s now free? Rabiot?

Again, I don't really understand why people seem to think he's some average player. He maybe be an all rounder, but he's an all rounder who creates chances for his team and keeps possession well high up the pitch. Who are these types of players? I'm genuinely curious as to who you're referring to. In what world do we have a good midfield outside Eriksen and Casemiro and why would Mac Allister need upgrading any time soon?

I already said Lavia and Mac Allister for me would be superb and probably cost about as much as Caicedo - who I would probably prefer on the whole. Kokcu isn't exactly going to be cheap and there's no guarantee he'll even adapt to the league.

He was part of a midfield that absolutely dominated our midfield in that semi-final and also created some absolute golden opportunities that they squandered. He was literally playing against Eriksen who was pretty poor. I'm not sure why he's somehow only good enough for our bench.
He's a good player but he doesn't have playmaker traits is my point. Playing one or 2 passes isn't what I mean - every player plays nice passes now and then. It's an inherent skill to know how and where to move and know how and where to pass the ball so that you progress it consistently. We need one who can do that to an elite level both in terms of passing and carrying. Mac Allister is 60th percentile in progressive passes. He is basically the same as Fred when it comes to being a deep progressor. Eriksen is 94th percentile in that for example.

Mac Allister would be a squad player because ten hag values having a deep passer more than anything. He moved Bruno deep to get it while Eriksen was out. It's a must in whatever midfielder we get, who have a midfielder who excels at progressing play from deep. That is not Mac Allisters game, neither is it Bellinghams which is why I'm not in favor of him either, for us. A player can be class but also the wrong type for us, when we need a very specific need. Ten hag also values his specific requirements highly - it's why he obsessed over needing a left footed right winger and a left footed LCB. We don't need him to keep possession in the final third or pop up for shots or even create some chances which he is decent with, not great with. We have Bruno who is one of the best around with that. Mac Allister is just the wrong profile of midfielder to partner Casemiro, and we aren't in a position to be spending 60m on squad players who don't fit what we actually need.

Interested in an example of a profile here people want, as I liken Mac Allister to Gundogan, who would certainly work in our system. You can't always get the top 10th percentile of every category, but as long you're effective (which he is), there is scope to raise his game in a better side.
Not really, Gundogan is a roaming playmaker while Mac Allister is a box-to-box workhorse. He's a slightly better Fred.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Upgrading on eriksen for our systems needs isn't exactly an easy thing that any standard midfielder can do. He's top 4 standard for that position.
On the ball he is. But he gets overrun and struggles with teams playing with intensity too often to be a starting midfielder for a top team. Also regularly looks exhausted after 60 minutes. Eriksen is a great option for many games, but we do need to be looking for somebody who brings similar positives without the disadvantages.

Genuinely find it mad how you can watch him and describe him as that.

I think we're on the same page we need a progressive from deep, but we can't also have someone who can't carry the ball or lacks intensity - which is what Eriksen lacks. I am advocating for both profiles. I disagree he would work well with Casemiro.

I'm glad someone posted the above, as it shows a good range of what he can do. I don't know how he gets lumbered in with Fred.

Unpopular opinion but Between Caicedo and Mac Allister , United would get better synergy and team improvement with Mac Allister being paired with Casemiro instead of Eriksen .

Caicedo may be better player but he is more of a replacement for Casemiro pairing them together while good on paper is just too defensive .

We shouldnt sign him as hes not what we need and not an improvement on mcfred.

We have a limited budget this summer and a striker and a CM (younger version of erikson) is high on the club's agenda. Mac Allister just isnt what we need. But he fits into liverpool system and what they need.

We need a gravenberch or a frenkie or a kovacivc. That sort of CM.
Did you mean to write the bolded bit? He’s way better than McFred. I’m seeing some interesting tales in this thread: Eriksen is suddenly a hindrance, MacAllister is worse than McTominay and Fred, and someone wanted Maddison over this guy.

I knew I wasn’t imagining how good of a game he had. Caciedo got a lot more ratings.. but I didn’t see it that way.

Will have to watch Caciedo’s performance again.
He’s very good and would provide a good alternative to Eriksen, but he’s not big money worthy imo. He’s more of an in the pockets, tidy and intelligent player whereas for me we need someone who can dictate more in the buildup phase with a bigger range of passing

That makes sense, as people say he’s a second phase player. Which is why I’m all for Rabiot.

He’d be a mainstay in a Klopp midfield. Unfortunately too expensive for us considering the amount of surgery that needs to be undertaken.

Hopefully someone a bit better than Rabiot.

Someone like Enzo would actually have been a good fit for us but obviously the fee was ludicrous. Hopefully we can get one playmaker plus someone like Lavia with strength and quick feet

Enzo would have been perfect. Hopefully we can find someone similar to fit that profile. Rabiot is just a cheap choice until another Enzo emerges.

I’m quite surprised that he is not being compared more to Paul Scholes. Not the Scholes from 06 to 10, but the younger Scholes.

- Aggressiveness and intensity,
- Very good passer (all ranges),
- Eye for goal,
- Press resistant and great at protecting the ball,

In my opinion, a complete midfielder.

Strong, technically sound and energetic. Decent passer as well. The type of midfielder I really like. We should be in for the lad.

I could see us going for him. He would be a tidy midfield option who could challenge for a starting spot.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

And only just turned 24. He’d be a great signing at the reported fee of 60m.

Who knows FDJ could be a scarifical lamb this summer. Barcelona need to raise £90mil and use another economic leaver to get messi back for next season according to reports in spain. Wouldnt suprise me if we paid the £60-70mil of what they require for FDJ.
FDJ is non-transferable this year. Every game that happens more important is in the team.

Barcelona are not going to sell FDJ to make room for Messi, and if that happened the price would be €100M+ to start talking.

The opportunity was last year and the player did not want to leave Barcelona. This year seems like a utopia.

Dont get a player who wants to be another place. Lesson number one from Fergie’s reign. So many examples of this going wrong post Fergie’s era.

Buy hungry players. This is what Ten Hag has seemed to understand as well. Everyone he has bought has given 110% when playing.

Sorry my post should probably mention I was talking about FdJ who people talked about just above my post.

MacAllister probably is hungry. Decent player, but not sure his ceiling is high enough for United.

Yeah FDJ is top tier but like you said hard to judge if he has any interest in being here and if not we should just move on.

Also proven in our league and in high profile games (WC final + Fa Semi). Standout in both games as well. Genuinely hard to see how you can get better value in the market.

I like him. A tidy technical player. Anyone who watched him more: how good is his defending? Can he hold the midfield with Case or is he more like Eriksen?

Usually when a player in the PL is that much of a sure thing he ends up at Liverpool (during Klopps time there anyway).

Good player, would improve our midfield but not for 60M and not when we have two positions that should be prioritize.

I really see him at Liverpool next year.

Yes, about that fee. Where exactly did it come from? Certainly not the selling club, as we never set fees for players. The reality is he’ll go to the highest bidder that the player wants to join. It could be Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal or Chelsea realistically.

The player’s agent (his Dad, Carlos Mac Allister) and buying clubs will be talking between now the summer, then the agent will come to Brighton and say “Alexis would accept moves to X or Y, and terms in principal have been agreed”.

This is exactly what happened with Cucurella last summer; Manchester City tapped him up all summer through his agent, and then made an offer to Brighton for £35m, assuming we’d accept. Brighton rejected the offer and the **** hit the fan. Then Chelsea paid £63m and Tony Bloom said “deal”.

He will go to the highest bidder, simple as that. Bloom and Barber are absolute masters of maximising transfer fees by simply saying “no”.

That value is just based on what is reported. So far that’s the only value shown out there. May be Brighton had gentleman agreement with Mac Allister, stay until end of the season and will let you go for 60m. Who knows.

If we really are in, we could win the race as Martinez will convince him to choose us. Out of the three arsenal, united, and Liverpool, we are the only one with Argentina player in the squad.

Dont think that will factor in given the close proximity of each club.
Outside work they could live near each other

Or they may dislike eachother!

Thank you for your reply.

The point I was making is that nobody actually knows his value including the potential buying clubs themselves, it is speculation by journalists which then gets repeated and expanded upon - and before you know it everyone is repeating it as fact.

At no point have the club ever come out and said “Mac Allister will cost £60m”. It is plausible sounding guesswork from journalists/social media wags.
