It will be a massacre. The only hope would be to play full-on Oleball and go for the counter.

Unfortunately Ten Hag doesn't have the imagination or guts to try this, and we no longer have the pace to pull it off if he did.

I would feel no shame whatsoever to get outplayed for 120 minutes with 20% possession as long as we win 1-0 or even better on penalties.
Shame on you for even thinking we can take it to extra time.

One thing playing in our hands is it's one game because over 2 legs we'd have no chance. But it'll be so tough and just thinking about how much we struggle to score goals... makes it even harder for us. We played well vs them at Old Trafford in first half, then they were dominant in 2nd and leading before that goal from Rashford which turned things around.

Also the way we tend to have slow starts to second halves can't happen because they'll punish us. Madrid conceded 3 with Courtoa preventing another 2, De Gea isn't the GK he was 5 years ago to have many wonder saves in him.

I hope it won't be another thrashing, experienced too many of those over last couple of seasons.
To be fair, after the first leg draw this effectively came down to one game too and Madrid got blown away.

We have to play dirty, gamesmanship, shithousery and proper hustle Jose style to win this. No other way. Aggressive in their faces from the first minute.

This team will be demolished in 25 minutes. The physicality of Halland and Rodri would destroy us completely.

Exactly as we played in OT in January. Antony and Garnacho as subs.
Ball over the top for Rashy and Martial throughout the game.
You do know that it’s exactly that same back four that played in the match at OT. No-one got destroyed by Haaland.

We played that midfield too, but with Eriksen instead of Bruno and the Portuguese as a RW. Rodri didn’t destroy anyone.

If Rashford is back, along with Varane in good fitness we might just have a chance. Hope ETH will be at his best as well

We need Jose for this. Can he come for a week only? As a special advisor or something?

The only thing that will make the final enjoyable is the announcement on the same day of Sheikh Jassim completing a takeover.

Some people in here are still in hope.

Lads put 50quid on City.
It'll take the edge off them beating us by a wide margin

I give us a 10% chance in this game. If we were to win it that would be an amazing result and as long as we hang on to 4th place in the EPL would mean a very big improvement.
I remember when we beat Liverpool in the late 70s, that made the season special. Fingers crossed we can pull off a big upset.

If we don't keep the ball well for certain periods, it'll be a long night.

We can't just sit back and absorb pressure the entire game. We have to carry some threat on the ball.

:D

We played with 4 midfielders. I know what I'm saying. Fred, Eriksen, Casemiro, Bruno all played in that game.
Antony was in the bench. Anything else will be bloodbath. Try 4231 they will hit us 6 goals. We have to choke the midfield, especially now with Stones as a floating midfielders.
We have to man mark their midfielders. Even Pep complained about man marking after the game. There is no other way.
If Arsenal 3 man midfield, Real 3 man midfield was unable to contain Rodri, KDB and Gündoğan + floating Stones you think lightweight Eriksen and Bruno can? That's being delusional.

We need 4 midfielders in that game to have a chance. Anything less will be suicidal.

It would seem that we're going to be battered very badly indeed, however I have a cunning plan...

We're allowed 11 players right? Behold: the 3-7-1 formation! This bold new tactic employs three goalkeepers, seven defenders and of course Wout Weghorst. The seven defenders stay more or less in and around our area, forcing City to shoot from range, but with three goalkeepers which is definitely allowed!!! They won't get very far. We hold them to 0-0 and win on penalties where it's Wout's time to shine! Whispering sweet nothings in the ears of the City penalty takers, while our three keepers cover each side they might shoot with one spare to cover the middle!

Literally fool-proof!

Some absolute fecking states in this thread. Back your team rather than wanting to be the one to come back and quote your post going "I told you so" 30 seconds after the full time whistle.

What was the score last time we played them out of interest?

Dreading it. Getting cooked by City in a final will be heartbreaking.

Out of the players in the squad - Rashford is probably the only one that understands the magnitude of this game.

Please don't start Eriksen

Why? It really isn't that complicated. Local rivalries and cup finals exist all over the world, they aren't unique to Manchester.

I'm not saying they don't understand rivalries/derbies or that they won't be motivated for it - most of this squad was involved last time City washed us, by the way. I just think Rashford is likely to care more about City potentially emulating us with the treble. Perhaps I should have worded that better.

People expressing doubt we can win doesnt mean we dont back the team it just means we have a pragmatic view of our chances. I think we have about a 10% chance of winning but I will be up in the middle of the night here watching the game. With respect to what the last result was well comparing form between the two teams points to a more likely picture.
I really hope im wrong but lacking confidence we will win doesnt mean Im not backing the team.

I think the Liverpool result becomes particular scarring at this point. On our day we can give them a game, as we have showed, but we also know we have the capacity to receive a hammering, not just a defeat, but an actual historic hammering. It's one thing to be on the receiving end of one early March with a game a few days later. To get one in the FA Cup final, against City, with a whole summer to go through and city going on to win a treble after it....Stuff. Of. Nightmares.

However if we win and scupper their treble, then what an end to the season that will be!

It was a good win, but our passing/possession play that game was horrific. We can't repeat that and hope to win again.

Simply put, the biggest one off game we've played since Barca in 10/11.

No bones about it, we must do everything in our power to stop the cheat modes.

Even if we lose, fecking smash the cnuts. It's one thing to see them win a treble, to know we were a major scalp is a whole other level.
