ExactlyIt's not that. We need players in a different profile and who will improve our first 11. Mount is not an improvement on Bruno or Rashford on the left. He is not similar to a De Jong profile either. Seems like the Donny signing when we were crying out for a DM.
There is a massive recency bias with fans in general.I am not claiming to be an expert on Mount but I will definitely take the opinion of people who have seen Chelsea more than me. I doubt any of us have watched him play more than Chelsea fans, so random or not, they will have a more informed opinion. Would you not agree?
I think that will be Rabiot who is stronger defensivelySounds like a good plan for most games but I'd still be worried in the bigger games if Mount is good enough to help Casemiro defensively. If we sign Mount I think we still need to sign another midfielder
Of course I don't agree. I'm saying other Chelsea fans disagree with the Chelsea fans you're referring too. The common opinion among Chelsea fans regarding Mount isn't that he plays at his best in Rashford's position. You've come across what is a minority opinion even among Chelsea fans and taken it as gospel.I am not claiming to be an expert on Mount but I will definitely take the opinion of people who have seen Chelsea more than me. I am hoping that ETH has this spot on as we definitely need an upgrade in the 8 position. I just have my concerns based on what I have seen and what I have heard from some of Chelsea fans who have seen him much more regularly than most of us.His best position is set by the manager, and he see's him as an 8.
He's home grown, 24, has a lot of potential in that role and it also happens to be in a role we are actively looking to fill. Plus, the manager clearly wants him.
Again - Chelsea fans a season ago had him + James probably as their best 2 players with Silva. Absolutely vital to their system. If you're using recency bias then that's not the best way to go about evaluating a 24 year old player.I am hoping that ETH has this spot on as we definitely need an upgrade in the 8 position. Do you mind sharing the source/s? I'm a bit out of it.His best position is set by the manager, and he see's him as an 8.

Fair enough if you know more about him. Care to point me to some stats of his as a #8. I know he is good as #10 and I also mentioned that.Of course I don't agree. I'm saying other Chelsea fans disagree with the Chelsea fans you're referring too. The common opinion among Chelsea fans regarding Mount isn't that he plays at his best in Rashford's position. And beyond that, we can see for a fact that he has more commonly played as a #10 or #8, which is generally known to be his most natural positions. You not knowing much about Mount doesn't mean that others don't.
He's not being signed to play instead of Rashford or Bruno, and there aren't any FdJ clones available to sign. There just aren't many proven players like that, which is why we went so hard for FdJ last summer. It's not that. We need players in a different profile and who will improve our first 11. Mount is not an improvement on Bruno or Rashford on the left. He is not similar to a De Jong profile either. Seems like the Donny signing when we were crying out for a DM.
I know a lot of Chelsea fans. Some seem to think he's world class, where others basically say he's Chelsea's version of Lingard. (More of the former in my experience)I am hoping that ETH has this spot on as we definitely need an upgrade in the 8 position. I just have my concerns based on what I have seen and what I have heard from some of Chelsea fans who have seen him much more regularly than most of us.
The Chelsea fans I spoke with didn't think he was shit. Just that they think his best position is a #10 or coming in from the left. There's no recency bias in that.Again - Chelsea fans a season ago had him + James probably as their best 2 players with Silva. Absolutely vital to their system. If you're using recency bias then that's not the best way to go about evaluating a 24 year old player.
We do this every summer too.We desperately need a GK, a CF and a well rounded CM, all on a shoestring budget. Probably a RB and a CB too. What do we do? Sign an overrated and overpriced backup for Bruno. This is stupidity beyond belief.
He's played the majority of his career as the LAM in a 343 formation, a no.10 behind two strikers (352) or as a no.10 in a 4231. He has played as a CM in a 2 man midfield or with another attacking no.8 but not a great deal and when he has it's been for Chelsea largely with Jorginho as the no.6 and Kante/Kovacic as his pairing no.8.He's a midfielder, not an attacker, sure he played more advanved in Chelsea part time but that's not his position primarily at all.
He's barely (if ever) played in an 8 under a settled system. Chelsea have been in absolute free fall this year where every player looks bang average. The Chelsea fans I spoke with didn't think he was shit. Just that they think his best position is a #10 or coming in from the left. There's no recency bias in that.
Thankshttps://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...t-transfer-manchester-united-chelsea-ten-hag/ --> Tier1 "Ten Hag wants to sign Mason Mount".
The same journalist also said that Ten Hag wanting Mount would be a severe blow to Klopp's plan for Liverpool as Mount+MacAlister were integral to the midfield revolution. And Romano/(+ Ornstein I think) said that Poch wants him to renew with Chelsea.
So 3 managers of very good calibre are keen on Mount. 2 of them we know is for a number 8 position.
In all honesty I'm pretty gutted we're losing him - would much rather sell Gallagher if the fee is even in the same ballparkThanks for this, actually making me excited for this deal now. Or maybe you're just a great used car salesman and are sabotaging my life.
Mount and his profile is obviously what Ten Hag wants in his midfield, why would a completely different, injury prone player who plays in a different position and in a position that won’t exist for us next season be a better fit?I hope he is better there than what the Chelsea fans say about his play in that position. I feel Kovacic is a much better fit for us in that regard if we want someone to replace Eriksen.
So he can either play instead of Eriksen or instead of Bruno with Bruno going deeper. Or ETH will come up with some new formation. He's played the majority of his career as the LAM in a 343 formation, a no.10 behind two strikers (352) or as a no.10 in a 4231. Maddison doesn't look like a player capable of being an 8.Wouldn’t Maddison be a better buy for a similar price?
Such a system would make sense if your LAM is Sancho/Mount. Would also explain the links to Rice/Caicedo as we'd need a more defensive minded midfielder next to Casemiro for this system. The only issue is this leaves the 85 million man Antony out in the cold as I don't see how he fits here.Tweet

God no, completely different sort of player.Wouldn’t Maddison be a better buy for a similar price?
He was most commonly used as a #8 in a 4-3-3 under Lampard, so you're primarily looking at his 19/20 stats I suppose. Though even that season he was at times used at the centre and left of the three in a 4-2-3-1.Fair enough if you know more about him. Care to point me to some stats of his as a #8. I know he is good as #10 and I also mentioned that.
Effectively yes. I don't think he'd be a good replacement for Eriksen in our current set up though, some added value in terms of energy/work rate but less composure and a more limited passing range. We've seen Bruno coming deeper this year and I think there's a possibility that Bruno will drop further back to accommodate Mount who likes to get forward, probably more than Eriksen. So he can either play instead of Eriksen or instead of Bruno with Bruno going deeper. Or ETH will come up with some new formation.
True that. Mount has more energy and is defensively better than Eriksen but yes, maybe the plan is that Bruno goes deeper which we've seen at times this season and it worked well imo.Effectively yes. No. Mount offers much more versatility. Madders would step on toes of Bruno and vice versa.Wouldn’t Maddison be a better buy for a similar price?
Could you post this year 22-23 stats for reference?Mount is Chelsea POTY for two seasons and Chelsea main creator based on his xA from 2019-2022. During His time at Chelsea, he won UCL.
Rabiot is France starting XI midfielder where there are Tchouameni, Camavinga, Kante, Thuram, and he won Serie A. He's available for free.
Dan James is championship level, won nothing.
Maguire is England national team CB where his competition in the national team is Dunk, Mings and Coady and he won nothing.
AWB is non England national team RB, he also won nothing.
Honestly, I'm not sure how you feel the similar level of expectation or excitement between the two scenarios.
They are having a proper meltdown there.I'm the same as you. You might enjoy, as I did, reading how upset Chelsea fans are at losing him. It's the only thing that's made me slightly enthused about this transfer so far !
