I'll comment now.

Personally, whatever your morals are, I cannot unhear that video.

But even if you could... there's another two stumbling blocks.

First, his conduct professionally outside of this incident has been shown to be questionable to say the least and apparently we have a no-dickhead policy now, supported by a manager who's keen on team morale.

Second, how good is he now after two years out of the game? At best, his development would have stunted, at worst regressed. Even if he gets back to where he was before, will he ever be United level?

If United don't want to let him go just yet (and even if they did), a loan abroad sounds like the most option. We can see if he's still OK as a player and if he's even willing to work on his image.

But, as I said, he has to do more beyond the football side to be allowed back in. He needs to show public remorse and even do an interview on the topic. Else, I cannot see any way for him to be back in the squad and even with that, it'll be steep road.
I think probably the best option.
Needs lots of therapy and help in sorting out his behaviour overall. Can't see anything good happening unless this part gets sorted.

I'm asking this respectfully, @Raoul, but why is this thread back active? Has anything changed since ETH made that comment?

No.

He will be heckled by fans all the time. There will be question marks for our integrity, too. All this negativity will also affect his performance, he is not going to be the same player he was before. And if he does not perform for a few months (which is expected anyway) the negativity will be hard to bear.

The best for him is to go somewhere outside England and start over. I am all for second chances, but I don't think it will work for us, he needs to move to really have a second chance.

What about his parents...?

I think we as a club tend to be pretty good to our players, so not sure that this is on us.
Well of course his parents bear responsibility. And I'm not saying it's "on us", but obviously United have been a massive part of his upbringing too.

Release him. Maybe there are takers, maybe he could have a career in esports.

Alternatively, loan him out and while loaned out, he can take courses to educate himself on various issues. Then release him.

another question to Consider

let’s say he leaves, and 3 years from how is playing in the champions league, banging the goals in for fun and is a 100m + player. Do you wish we kept him?
Nope. Couldnt give a flying feck what he does with a ball. The guy's scum for what he did. The end.

Its hard to decide on yes/no as we don't know how much the situation has affected both his mental and physical state, but I voted yes as I think its low risk, high reward given the legal outcome of his situation.

He'll get abused for an unspecified amount of time, but there's probably a chance he deserves it.

The only way I can see him playing for United next season is if him and his girlfriend (now fiance I think) do a frank joint interview where they provide reasonable explanations for what we've all seen/heard on social media: e.g. the audio was part of a CNC roleplay and the photos weren't due to his violence. It would have to be one hell of a PR spin by the club.
How is that even slightly fair on the girl? It seems really selfish to feel she should have to explain her personal life to the public so that fans of a football club can sleep a bit easier.

I don't think he should, but I think he will.
This. I voted no but got a suspicion that he is going to return. If he was, I think the club will be wanting him to do something like an open broadcasted interview explaining everything that happened before he’s even allowed to return for training with the squad.

Reading the comments make me understand that what law decides is of little significance. The People's Court is the highest power innit. Just out of curiosity, will anyone stop watching United if he comes back?
If you can't understand the difference between the evidence required to secure a criminal conviction, and the evidence required to think that someone is probably a scumbag that you don't want little kids idolising, I don't know what to tell you.

I believe in second chances. Especially if he's with the same lady and the courts see him as innocent.

I'm sure all of you are saints.
Are you aware of the giant gap between saint and batterer. I've shoplifted, but I never in my life even entertained the thought of beating up a woman, let alone my significant other.

I don't know anything about the case or the people involved, so I will defer to the judgement of the authorities. I don't believe in trial by social media.

Keep him or release him, just don't take ages to decide.

As horrible a person he was 2 years ago, I think he’s served his sentence and then some. At his age there should be opportunity for forgiveness. A year’s loan would probably be the best option.

Nothing has changed, other than that the case and our season are both complete and the topic is being broadly discussed on social media. What Untied decide to do in the end notwithstanding.

I also believe in second chances... And no, we are no saints... I just don't want the club I support associated with him.

What will your reaction be if he's sold and absolutely hits it out of the park and becomes one of the world's best somewhere else? Be honest.

Ye I’m not sure this will go down well with most of the fan base and even the players. We’ve done pretty well without him so it would be a waste to bring him back and it upsets the dressing room. The convos would be awkward when they first see him again…
I would be very curious to know (obviously there is no way to actually know) what the opinions of the other players are on him. I think it was documented somewhere (no idea if true) that he was a bit of a loner and used to eat alone at mealtimes and such, and apparently Ronaldo didn’t like him either.

However for someone like say Rashford who would have been around him for years, I wonder what he actually makes of this and what he would think should the club decide to bring him back.

We’ve had players do terrible things, Cantona, Keane, Giggs, and they’re still considered legends at the club.

Should give him a season to see if he’s sorted himself out, and then move from there.

Not for me but I can see why there’s an argument as to why he stays.
It’ll be hard to argue against if / when the family come out and support him

It seems an almost deliberately reckless time to do this. Not sure what you lot are up to here.

It all points to him coming back next season. Nothing said by Utd since case was dropped. ETH’s comments on his footballing ability was the biggest sign yet that Utd probably have him in their plans for next season.

There’s no way I know enough to answer this poll. It depends entirely on what any internal investigation has found, and what the player’s behaviour and attitude has been to the whole affair.
Yeah this is a good point. Too much unknown for us to make a decision I think.

I won’t answer this poll because any return on his part would need to come with a lot of caveats. It’s not a straightforward yes or no for me.

On the one hand most people should be capable of redemption. On the other, well I listened to the tape again.

I genuinely don’t know. We’d need to hear from him, and given there’s not likely to be any contrition for fear of prosecution, I’m not sure I could tolerate it.
I agree, if you pick Yes but your decision is based on there being caveats etc, with it being a public poll you could get jumped on without the context as some posters are already doing....needs to be a "not sure" or a "yes if the club chooses to bring him back"

He can go to Saudi for all I care, the club should have terminated his contract promptly already. They had plenty of reasons for that. The fact that they didn't and are still considering keeping him is what's most depressing here.

No thanks. I heard the recordings and it seemed pretty clear to me he's got a terrible attitude towards women.

That's just not true
You're right, it was a voice note, but I think the point still stands that it doesn't sound good at all. There could be some plausible explanation but until there is some legitimate explanation, I'm not buying it or creating a scenario in which it all makes sense.

I also think the idea that they're back together means that it's all okay is a little naive too.

Beyond the moral debate, I don't see any way he can be at anywhere near the level he was because of the psychological tole the abuse he'll take anytime he sets foot on a football ground in England.

There was perhaps only one circumstance in a million scenarios where I could have even contemplated it. Somehow that's what we've landed on. For the sake of mother , child and also troubled young man , I do hope that this last year can serve as a turning point and path towards growth, recovery and love.

I do not forgive him as it's not my place or problem and I'm still uneasy about seeing him in the United shirt again. But sometimes I suppose I do believe in second chances.
Sometimes it’s forgotten how the mentality of a very young person with money can be or change.

Can you imagine what half of this forum’s mentality may be if they were millionaires by the Age of 21 whilst also having the ability to have any girl they ever wanted?

Im sure some would turn in to spoilt brats & personally I believe that a lot of these fans who don’t have the ability to give a second chance to Greenwood are hardly angels themselves - having probably made mistakes that have just never got caught out.

Ultimately if his partner has forgiven him to the point she wants to be a wife in a long relationship with him - then I don’t see why the fanbase are acting like this is so hard to forgive him on.

If the allegations online are true about Partey it’s a disgrace he is still playing. Benzema is a dick but nothing to the extent of the offence Greenwood was arrested for. Ribery I don’t know enough about to comment
Benzema & Ribery were accused of raping an underage prostitute and acquitted, just like Greenwood. I don't approve of Greenwood's actions but wtf is the point if people are rewarded for similar actions, clearly the people in charge of football don't care as long as they earn money. In fact, it's been proven that they enjoy the profits from murderers (City) so everything is game imo.
