It would be seriously remiss of us to spend megabucks on Costa without first scoping out what Milan would be willing to accept for Maignan.

I can’t see us signing a keeper and him especially if DDG signs a contract. I don’t think DDG will want to be 2nd choice keeper and the new keeper will obviously want to be 1st choice unless it’s a back up standard keeper we buy.

Given De Gea is on ~£18M/year and Henderson is on ~£5M/year, the economics on this really make sense if De Gea leaves and Henderson is sold for ~£25-30M. If Costa gets a £10M/year deal, that's savings of roughly £13M/year (before signing a backup GK), and Henderson's transfer fee would cover close to half of the reported release clause, I believe. Really want this to happen. Best attainable GK option out there.

How about not renewing De Gea and instead getting Costa? Why are we renewing De Gea?
Our renewal is probably on severely reduced terms, so it's as good as not renewing. If he takes it, I imagine we'll sign a younger keeper, Vebruggen for example and he'll be rotated heavily. If he moves on, we can actually go all out on a no 1.

We all love United
Tom Heaton and Jack Butland are leaving the club too yes? Not that they will be number ones if De Gea leaves, but we probably will need a couple of goalkeepers this summer

I highly doubt the reduced wages aren’t still very high. It’s not like he’s going to instantly accept 50k a week now. He’s no doubt still going to be on something over the 200+ mark

Of course they're probably not 50k, but it's probably quite a considerable drop seeing as he's still yet to agree to the new contract. It's pure guess work as to how much lower they are, but it's probably safe to say it's a fair bit lower, as this has been dragging all season.

Still the most baffling thing ever that ETH wants to keep him around. Goes against everything he’s shown to believe in football wise pre-United, and the guy clearly isn’t dumb
Unfortunately he can't just chuck keepers to the kerb like a certain other manager can

As the FA Cup final blatantly highlighted….we need a ball playing keeper……and now - we can’t go another season with Dave’s hoofs out of touch or hospital balls to our defenders.

Its key to upping the tempo of the team

If we can realistically add Costa we would be mad to resign De Gea. So mad, it would actually make me question the fair amount of trust I've put in the club after this season. This should be the order of things...We look to add Costa, and if we can't get him or someone the idea that we would look to resign De Gea first and then, if we don't come to agreement, we would look at adding Costa is just bad business.

Finalising a proposal. Then we get to the prepare to send it before we warm up the fact machine. That stage will take a few months

Considering to possibly maybe make a proposal if a proposal might prove to possibly be a suitable response to not making a proposal

I can see Porto selling Costa weather it's us or Chelsea we yet to know. Porto need to raise at least €50 million by the end of the month in order to comply with FFP, per Zach Lowy

€50m would be nice. Huge money for a keeper, but he looks like a good keeper.

I would listen to our Portuguese posters who mostly are on mark on the players from their league and temper the expections a bit on Costa , who it seem is getting bit overrated on here and is seen as sure hit .

Hope we get this done. Can’t see it though as we need a ST which will cost a lot. Another midfielder and another defender. Don’t even know what the budget is with us not being took over yet.

I honestly think we could be creative here.
if we let go of DDG, sell henderson (say 30m), we could go with:

Costa (say hes 60m). That would be 30m from the budget on the keeper and the 30m we got in.
If we can get somebody on loan like Sam Johnstone (or get another year out of Heaton)
And then we have vitek or bishop.

It would be similar'ish to City who use Ederson mostly (so we can do that with Costa)
They have the second choice who plays cups (ortega for them, we could use one of our youngsters)
And then the third choice veteran (Heaton?)

We are already better wage wise too because you would think Costa would not be anywhere near what DDG would get too. Obviously you play around with the costs (Costa even if 70m could be structured in a way that doesnt all go in one go from this years budget)
That still leave a bulk of it for a striker and midfielder (and thats before sales)

of course, the alternative is to not get Costa and instead go for Raya who would be cheaper and can take us through a year (lets say hes 40m, again, youre only spending 10m from the actual budget if you get 30m for Henderson).
