Clean sheets are more indicative of a good defence than goalkeeper. Especially over the course of a season. Not good enough for the Premier league Who won the golden glove award this year?

So DeGea no good then? Was he a bad buy?Clean sheets are more indicative of a good defence than goalkeeper. Especially over the course of a season.
This is nonsense. The GK is part of the defence as well, so not sure what this even means.Clean sheets are more indicative of a good defence than goalkeeper. Especially over the course of a season.
I don't think the club have treated him poorly, he might well have been the highest paid player in the PL at one point which is nuts for a GK - not renewing at that same level is common sense.A real shame tbh. In both how he's been treated by the club and how some view him. United legend for me and not many in the past 10 years can say they have achieved that status.
Still hold out faint hopes something is sorted but doesn't look like it now.
We weren't renewing at the same rate though. We agreed a deal and then backed out a few weeks ago. We look like dickheads hereI don't think the club have treated him poorly, he might well have been the highest paid player in the PL at one point which is nuts for a GK - not renewing at that same level is common sense.
Mate, it was your echo chamber comparing him to Schmeichel, not the rest of us, he’s not fit to be in the same conversation as him or Van Der Sar for that matter.Funny how some fans only remember the bad games he had for us. I remember at one time we were comparing him with Schmeichel. He’s had a great career overall at United despite some real bad performances. As a human we all make mistakes, even goalkeeper.
Think he’s had our player of the season at least four times. Has that ever been bettered by anyone else at United? All too often many of our fans only think of the bad. If he’s played his last game for us I wish him well where ever he goes. He deserves the upmost respect from us for what he’s accomplished over the years.
He was happy to renew on a lower wage though? Offered by the club only for them to then change their mind. That's a bit of a dick move by the club.I don't think the club have treated him poorly, he might well have been the highest paid player in the PL at one point which is nuts for a GK - not renewing at that same level is common sense.
No doubt he was a fantastic player, and if United were more successful during his tenure, he may well have been considered a legend by most.Funny how some fans only remember the bad games he had for us. I remember at one time we were comparing him with Schmeichel. He’s had a great career overall at United despite some real bad performances. As a human we all make mistakes, even goalkeeper.

Being behind those two is nothing to be ashamed of and he is absolutely in the conversation. We're talking about someone who now holds several records for United and spent 12 years here.Mate, it was your echo chamber comparing him to Schmeichel, not the rest of us, he’s not fit to be in the same conversation as him or Van Der Sar for that matter.
People keep bringing up this player of the season award, it means nothing to a goalkeeper. It means that everyone else was shit and he had to do his job and make saves, that’s it.
I hope he goes somewhere else and is successful, I hope he’s happy with whatever he decides to do but he’s on borrowed time here, and let’s put it this way, Fergie would have booted him out years ago.
He benched him unceremoniously after a bad game, but he had only played under him for around 10 years at 2 clubs and he even played for him in the world cup in 86. He then stayed at Utd for a few years as 3rd/4th choice. I believe they haven't spoken since. He benched him after a shocking match - it wasn't worse than that
Hopefully an agreement can be reached for him to stay another year or 2.Surely we have to hear something definitive tomorrow? Either that he is staying or he is going
I can’t believe even a club as poorly run as United are would let it expire without knowing whether he’ll be staying or not
Varane was on the bench 6 times this season in the PL we won 5 of them .conceded 3 in those 6 games. But carry on DDG had nothing to do with the golden glove.
Some posters here with the memory only of our past couple of games .
I’ve only ever seen him have 3 maybe 4 at a push, truly exceptional seasons where I had no doubt he was in the top 3 keepers in the world. The rest of the time he’s been hot and cold, done the basics badly, shirked any responsibility and generally gone hiding on and off the pitch.Being behind those two is nothing to be ashamed of and he is absolutely in the conversation. We're talking about someone who now holds several records for United and spent 12 years here.
What gives you the impression Fergie would have booted him out?
I just don't understand how some of you can dismiss everything about him when it suits. Clean sheets don't matter to a keeper, POTY doesn't matter to a keeper, any keeper would make that save, this stat, that stat... It seemed to matter at the time though, when he was the only United player performing at the standards expected, saving our blushes game after game, season after season.
Even £150k a week for 3 years is £23m.Saudi or retire? He's doesn't need to work any more.
Who me? i think you'll find the forum were talking about it as a whole not me specificallyMate, it was your echo chamber comparing him to Schmeichel, not the rest of us, he’s not fit to be in the same conversation as him or Van Der Sar for that matter.

Oh yeah - feckin hilarious - but no, never, not ever! His cup final form would relegate us.Would be funny if Forest signed DDG on a free and dropped their interest in Hendo. £30m transfer out the window. Massive feck you to the board!
What's the source for this - it would be highly surprising for any club to renege on an agreed deal for any player without something major happening? We weren't renewing at the same rate though. We agreed a deal and then backed out a few weeks ago. We look like dickheads here
Whatever you think of him, he has been a player of the year several times and every United fan was claiming he was the best for a good few years. This is not the way you treat a club legend
United have a shocking record of letting long standing servants get booted behind the scenes without the bye they deserve
3 or 4 exceptional seasons is pretty impressive. Shows the level he was at one point. Most players never have an exceptional season let alone 3.I’ve only ever seen him have 3 maybe 4 at a push, truly exceptional seasons where I had no doubt he was in the top 3 keepers in the world. The rest of the time he’s been hot and cold, done the basics badly, shirked any responsibility and generally gone hiding on and off the pitch.
I remember him making some great saves, Everton hangs in the memory, when we were clinging to a win in the dying moments. But here’s the thing, he causes most of the situations he has to dig us out of with his kicking or his inability to command the area or come off his line, and that for me isn’t good enough to warrant being the highest paid Spanish player and GK ever, while simultaneously being Spains 6th choice GK and by the stats that actually count, a very average PL GK when compared across all GK’s.
Then there’s the other things that hang in the memory, the completely flapping at long shots, watching Xhaka’s shot all the way from 40 yards out and still missing it, costing us every big game we’ve played in the last 10 years, making unbelievable errors at the worst possible moments, and he’s done this consistently.
He is a goalkeeper that makes great saves, but he’s isn’t a great goalkeeper.
I wouldn't argue about him being passed his best and yes arguably time has come to move on. but some of the muppets on here just out for blood for some of his bad games. Simple truth he's been great for us most of the time than not. Personally don't mind if he stays even if its as a No2. Your right though, many fans have short memories. No doubt he was a fantastic player, and if United were more successful during his tenure, he may well have been considered a legend by most.
But there's no getting around the fact that he's long past his best. It's time to move on.
His recent howlers are all that's in the memory of a lot of fans right now, but he'll be remembered fondly, in time.
If he goes Saudi for a few years his grandkids won't have to work.Saudi or retire? He's doesn't need to work any more.
Couldn’t agree more, yet you’ll still get muppets stating he’s not good enough to be a premier league keeper.Regardless of whether we are letting him go or signing him up to a new deal I really want us to give him a testimonial.
It’s time we started to treat our servants with the respect they’ve earned.
Yep I think it would be fair to offer him one. And wouldn’t surprise me if we did for next summer, that would be his chance to get his send-off.Regardless of whether we are letting him go or signing him up to a new deal I really want us to give him a testimonial.

I disagree, even the grandkids kids will have enough from what he’s earned in the game.If he goes Saudi for a few years his grandkids won't have to work.
Yeah but it'll be stupid rich money. He could probably retire at 35 and live his life on a yacht drip feeding himself Margaritas and living on a diet of coke and caviar instead of doing the rounds in punditry.I disagree, even the grandkids kids will have enough from what he’s earned in the game.
Except for the fact he would’ve been out the door had the fax machine been working properly. He played games with United when he was in his prime.Regardless of whether we are letting him go or signing him up to a new deal I really want us to give him a testimonial.
It’s time we started to treat our servants with the respect they’ve earned.
At times our outfield players were so bad that teams would walk through us almost unchallenged and the only thing keeping them out was De Gea. When his form dipped, teams continued to walk through us but a low confidence De Gea wasn't there to stop them.I wouldn't argue about him being passed his best and yes arguably time has come to move on. but some of the muppets on here just out for blood for some of his bad games. Imagine we let him go and then someone comes in last minute to steal OnanaThis could potentially be a disaster of our own making… I hope they get it right.
Fortunately it’s not me you need to convince you and I on the same page. I just hope those muppets with short term memory loss get some back.At times our outfield players were so bad that teams would walk through us almost unchallenged and the only thing keeping them out was De Gea. When his form dipped, teams continued to walk through us but a low confidence De Gea wasn't there to stop them.
At other top clubs, a goalkeeper low on confidence or out of form wouldn't be as obvious as they are less likely to face the sort of onslaught De Gea faced at times due to the likes of Pogba seizing possession or Maguire flapping like a demented idiot. De Gea was one of those rare keepers who would fit in at clubs at the top or bottom of the table.
You’ve probably hit nail on the head with this one. Doesn’t fit in ETH new system going forward.Personally I don’t care how good he was in the past or now the season is over I don’t care how bad he’s been over the past couple of years, I care about going forward and reality is De Gea is NOT the type of keeper ETH wants in HIS team or with HIS tactics and at 31-32 years old De Gea isn’t going to improve in what ETH wants so if it comes down to De Gea staying or ETH staying who is the one who stays ?
There’s no doubting that De Gea has been a good player and loyal although £375K a week will always help with that but there’s no room for sentiment if you want to be successful, look at how ruthless Real Madrid and Bayern have been over the past 20 years as an example.

The one that pays us the most!!! Oh wait, he’s leaving on a free.Which one is that again? The Ronaldo one or the Benzema one? Or is it the Neves one?

I mean, apart from the main stat that keepers are judged on - clean sheetsAll the stats show that this year in PL, he was at best an average keeper.
