Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
I think he is a very special talent but he's always looked a bit out of his depth when played as the main striker for us apart from one game against Wolves if I remember correctly.

For those feeling he'd fix our striker issues I wouldn't be so sure. He definitely has the ability but it's not a sure fire thing.
He’s better than any other out and out striker we currently have.

More a reflection on the owners’ negligence, but it’s true.

If we sell him he'll probably go to somewhere like Newcastle and tear it up for them. I doubt Toon fans will complain about him being a scumbag off the pitch. United fans need to stop with this holier-than-thou attitude and accept that modern football is ruthless, we can't afford to just chuck away a top tier talent like Greenwood.
Take that opinion, mate and put it in the fecking bin.

Martial has actually had very good full seasons as a striker and has shown the ability to do things that Greenwood has struggled with at senior level (hold up the ball, use his head effectively and better at link up play). Rashford has also shown more as a lone striker.

If you're talking about what he did in the youth team then it's a different story as he looked like a prime Van Persie with more pace.

he could come back today and still be better than Martial. A loan would do him the world of good just to get back to playing football and have some sort of normalcy. Send him to Italy for a year or two and see if he can regain that type of form he had prior to stepping away.

He's a +100m talent mate. If he shines in his loan I bet we'd sell him for at least 50m. And I also bet he'd score shitload there as well.

There was talks about our marketing department was against him returning in the process we reportedly undergo to decide if we'd bring him back so there must be something negative there I think.

Anyway yeah you got a point here. I don't even know what is the current state of our reputation now anymore.
He’s potentially worth that, currently he’s worth very little

He’s not for sale though is he?

Put him up for sale and believe me, he’ll have a lot better offers than Atalanta.

He’s not an unwanted player. On the contrary, he’s a desperately needed player.
He doesn't need to be up for sale to get offers.

Is it though? He barely played as a number nine at United - his best performances came as a wide forward.

He definitely had potential but his all-round game always had huge room for improvement. And his prowess as an out-and-out striker at the top level is mostly theoretical at this point.

For the no. 9 position in an important game, I'd have much more trust in Rashford than him, based on everything they have shown for the club so far.

I heard it was some sponsors feeling uneasy. Imo it will largely depend on the whole PR on how its handled, and public reaction.q

The two of them interchanging positions is an interesting thought, but whether that would actually work in practice remains to be seen.

Just to address this, the mod team are taking their direction from the board owner. Since he’s the one that receives the legal letters, it’s his choice (rightfully) how it’s handled. Besides we’ve already tried that approach once and it had to be closed down again. Unfortunately there is a portion of our posters who are unable to discuss things maturely.

His comeback would also provide a very good option on the right with an actual goal threat, which is something that antony lacks

Last season Antony scored 8 in 44, the last full season Greenwood played for us he scored 12 in 52.

Not really the world of difference.

He was becoming one of the greediest players I've ever seen, he was only interested in shooting.

But this is something that is easily resolved with a manager telling him to stop being so selfish or he won't play. Managers tend to indulge players in their absolute worst habits though.
He needed coaching badly. But at a technical level he is far superior to other young strikers like Hojlund in my opinion. He did well that first few games of his last season when played as a striker if I remember correctly. Once Ronaldo came into the team it all went south for everyone.

I think a big thing IF he were to come back here, would be how he handles crowd abuse. And probable opponent abuse. And online abuse. Because it will inevitably follow him around wherever he goes, but moreso in the prem than elsewhere. So that's why I could see him move abroad for a fresh start. Even years from now in the Prem it would be repeated, I don't see this one dying down really.

If he is to come back at United, my guess is there would have to be a lot of publicity work on the part of (importantly) both Mason and his girl, while also committing to support all *those* causes, classes, donations, whatever. That's the only way the club would be able to actually reintegrate him back in the squad from a social point of view with the rest of the fans and wider world football society. I think there's a chance that if that is to happen then he could be somewhere on the "normal crowd abuse" spectrum, and he could focus on his game again.

First club has to decide of course what to do, and then he'll have to show in training what he's capable of on the pitch. 1.5 years is a long ass time. Loan makes sense from a club perspective in pretty much every single way, bide their time to decide what to do, get Greenwood regular gametime to get fitness, development for a future role or gain value for a future sale, let the situation simmer down... No brainer.

Antony is 23 yo. Greenwood was like 18-19 yo. Where was Antony when he was 19 yo? Imo it's not fair comparing a youngster with a grown up. Then in his last full season with us if my memory serves me right teams started to double down and go very hard, sometime nasty on him whenever he's near the ball.

I don't think he'd ever play for us again but imo ETH would make hell of an player out of him if he does listen to ETH. What a shame really.

With our lack of decent strikers, and even with one possibly coming in, we could certainly use him this season, although it may take a few months for him to get up to full match fitness again. Anyone disagree?

There is a huge difference. Greenwood played under shit managers, we played shit football and were poor. He was the only bright light at times

Would love to have him back. Would put immense pressure on Antony and would probably replace him after a few month. Questionmark about his fitness though as nobody knows how much he trained if at all.

That is my view as well.
I keep reading that he should be put out on loan. But to be honest I am struggling to understand what that would achieve.
Is that magically going to stop him from getting jeered or criticised or booed or whatever. Football is international.
And if he is sent out on loan abroad, he will be on his own in a different country and environment with little or no actual support. And at the end of the loan period, all of the attention will start afresh.

Far better in my view for him to be reintroduced gradually here at OT where he has always been and in a place he knows and with all of the support he is going to need.
Yes of course it will be difficult for him and United for a period of time. But he is going to have to face up to all of that at some point anyway.
Just my opinion.

Greenwood was 19/20, Antony was 22/23. Again really not a world of difference.

I agree that Greenwood has more goals in him but it is just factually untrue that Antony doesn't offer a goal threat. 8 is decent for a young winger playing in his first season at the highest level. I wouldn't be shocked to see that end up being somewhere between 10 and 15 next season which is good for a winger.

Lot of questions about how long it will take him to get fit again. If Atalanta are willing to give him a shot on loan, they must have some assurances he’s not going to take 4 months to get back to match fitness. If they’re taking a chance on him on loan, the fee must be near nothing with us paying his wages, assumably as part of the Hojlund deal.

I don’t think any club in this country is going to touch him for the rest of his career as it stands because he’ll be despised wherever he goes and the hypothetical club that buys him will be in a PR hellstorm. He will not be called up internationally either because it’ll be just as bad.

So as of this moment, I hope we eventually end up selling him abroad where he can quietly get on with his career.

I assume any club who is ok to socially take him on loan is more focused on him being a 100m talent that they can pick up for peanuts and have a player who they typically would have no chance to have, rather then think it might take some time to get him sharp. Of course it doesn't take 4 months, but it'll inevitably take a bit of time.

Are you trying to say that our attackers desperately struggled to score under Ole?

- Bruno scored 40 goals in his first 60 games.
- Rashford broke 20 goals for the first time in his career and did it twice.
- Martials highest ever scoring season.
- Ronaldo, Pogba, Cavani, Greenwood and Lukaku also all scored over 15 goals for a season under Ole.

Please don't read this as me singing Ole's praises but you're making it sound like forwards were struggling to get goals and he was magically the only one who could.

How does that relate to him as a footballer?
If we want to stick to strictly football (which I strongly feel we can't in this case) then he has wasted nearly two years of playing football and continuing to develop, which is entirely his fault. He was a good talent but no guarantee he's as good now.

Surely. But imo Greenwood would provide a much bigger goal threat than Antony.

Don't take me wrong I do rate Antony he's a baller. But imo his shooting doesn't have enough power/precision and he basically only can shoot well with his left. Greenwood on the other hand has one of the best shot I've seen in the game. By both feet. That alone is insane enough tbh.

Most gifted prospect to come out of our academy since 92 by a distance in my opinion. If he's brought back, his career will live or die with his ability to handle the abuse he'll take during away matches.
Did Zouma die?

If Mason does appear on the pitch, and can ride out the first few months he'll be fine.

He also can't play RW well enough. Antony can, he had a decent good debut season and we were so much better with him in the team. If Greenwood comes back he will be CF option, he isn't good enough wide

Agree with this. Greenwood is far more clinical than Antony and a significantly more dangerous goal threat. That's of course not taking into consideration that Greenwood hasn't played in 18 months and that Antony may improve in the coming year.
