I reckon you're basing this opinion on something?
I watch Onana with Inter weekly in Serie A and his shot-stopping is not as good as DDG.
Maybe EtH will work on this with him.

His footwork and passing is much better whilst taking risks.

Thing is, with the way he plays we'll not face as many shots as with DDG on goal.

It's definitely better than De Gea's. De Gea's shot stopping has been below average for ages.

You only have to look at last seasons metrics to see how bad De Gea has become at pretty much every aspect of goalkeeping.

De Gea is up there with the greatest shot stoppers of all time - no keeper is going to be on the same level as him in that regard. But his deficiencies also led to him having to face more shots than keepers with other strengths.

He was. Not anytime recently though

His shot stopping last season was statistically better than De Gea's has been for years. That includes shots saved and percentage of expected goals saved.

His catching of crosses is also in a completely different league.

He was still pulling off worldie saves last season to be fair, but more and more mistakes crept into his game - which may have been a result of him knowing his time at the club was coming to an end.

He pulled off a few very impressive looking reflex saves whilst conceding goals that he should have saved.

He is average compared to other keepers when it comes to percentage of shots saved and percentage of expected goals saved.

Onana is much better in both statistics.

Arguing that Onana's shot stopping isn't as good as de Gea's is like lamenting that Varane's head isn't as big as Maguire's.

I always got the vibe that DDG was better working off instinct and given any moment to think about an incoming shot would lead to disaster.

Loved the guy, even through the rough years, but excited for Onana to bring us into the modern era of goalkeeping.

We paid £34m for Varane yet we receive substantially less head per pound than Maguire at £80m

And nobody put this in the posts that feel sexual thread!

Absolute hyperbolic nonsense. DDG is and always has been a WC shot stopper.

Not last season he wasn't (or the season before). He's still capable of world class saves but doesn't consistently save a higher percentage than an average goalkeeper.

It's a bit like when a striker scores great goals but is not a great goalscorer.

He's a maker of great saves but not a consistently good shot stopper anymore.

It was breaking news yesterday that it was in the final stages, proof if you needed it, journos have absolutely no idea what's going on.

So if he signs in the next couple of days, its proof they don't know what's going on?

Proof of what exactly? We're talking about a deal worth 10s of millions, it's not like buying a packet of biscuits.

I don't want to defend twitter shite, but they were adamant they were big days for the deal, and yesterday its become blatantly obvious that this will happen....so?
Tbf it's quite obvious since like two weeks ago.

OK, if he signs in the next couple of days, its proof they know what's going on.

Let me add this
Manchester United will complete the signing of Andre Onana by Wednesday 19 July 2023 at 3pm Uk time. This is according to redcafe poster red.knight ;)

He’s definitely still world class at making routine saves look world class (often due to poor positioning) which never fails to get his fans excited. The rule of thumb I use is whether there would be criticism of a GK if they hadn’t made a particular save - if the answer is yes, then it simply wasn’t a world class save. I’d put a lot of DDG’s recent ‘wonder saves’ in that category.
