We should take this guy on the strength of his name alone.

5mil is feck all to United. If he's the profile we need we should bring him in too.

ETH does apparently want competition for keepers. But still, pretty hard to imagine he'll get football outside a few cup games.

I'm sure what will happen is he'll settle into the club, benefit from training, hopefully impress in a few outings and get a loan deal next year. He's a baby as a goalkeeper, one year settling into European football as a number 2 won't do him any harm. I'm sure it's a signing for the long term, they believe he's a major talent so I don't think he'll be sat here doing nothing for years. If that was the picture for a keeper they'd sign an experienced #2.

I saw that his team played today and noticed that he was on the bench, apparently he made a big mistake in the last game. Still only 20 but you kind of expect him to be the first choice in the Japanese league by that age if you're going to play for Man United.

Am I the only one that doesn't think he looks that good in those comp videos. Seems very awkward in catching the ball - something doesn't look right. Also, a J-league record breaking fee for a sub keeper seems a bit excessive considering some of the quality players that have come from that league lately. Hope we don't find ourselves short on €5mn when we're negotiating for our forward.

Put that fee in the context of ‘it’s the Japanese league’ which is hardly a world renowned bastion of quality and the record breaking element of the deal makes more sense. £5m is chump change in the PL and I really think you are worrying unnecessarily for the sake of it.
Worst case scenario, If he’s half as good as is claimed we can easily make a profit on a 5m fee if it doesn’t work out.

Agreed, that link and cost don't make much sense to me. He isn't exactly a Caicedo who was a starter for his club and showing great promise in Copa Libertadores.

Mightn't be a world renowned bastion of quality but still a league that has produced Mitoma, Maeda and Kyogo in just the last few years who have all been dominant players in the J-League before commanding much lower fees to move and performing even more dominantly in supposedly stronger leagues in Europe. €5mn isn't chump change when you're on the margins of FFP and every penny counts. We've seen how €5mn has swayed both our deals with Mount and Onana in the last two weeks.

Yeah, just a weird one for me. Maybe he is excellent but as you say, he's not a guy that's proving it week in week out and quite frankly, it's just not a priority position when we supposedly have extreme financial constraints.

Also, with Caicedo, most people had never heard of him either but as soon as we were linked you had guys like Tim Vickery coming out saying he was the future of Ecuadorean football and had WC potential.

I imagine he’ll be signed for peanuts in comparison to our other buys? I can see him being wrapped up quickly if we wanted too alongside a striker, a centre mid and possibly a centre back if someone takes Maguire.

That’s what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation
Could they even afford him? Transfermarkt says that the record fee for Czech club is 4M and it was Slavia not Sparta. So would some 3M be enough? Surely if we want to sell him someone could pay more...

The scout that recommends his rates him extremely highly

Seems talented, low fee and wage, Heaton would still be backup goalkeeper and I'm content with that. The club would probably see increased interest/income from the asian market as well. Makes sense.

If they let Heaton go and do not replace him with an experienced backup goalkeeper I would be slightly worried.

I really hope we let Heaton go, he's unlikely to get many games anyway so why screw him over when Luton probably represents his last chance at 1st team football in the EPL. That's if Luton haven't moved on from him already.

Just seen a Japanese outlet stating the transfer fee would be 900 million yen which is £4.9m which is a release clause.

Do we really need him? Kovar looks pretty comfortable on the ball and is only 23. And despite rumors of him joining Sparta Prague again, he is still here atm. Just don't see the reason to spend 4.9m on a position where we have a great young player already...

For his age I think he is very similar (from bits I’ve seen to a young Onana. I guess the point is for them to train together. In training sessions with transitions it means that they can easily do the same with larger groups

Think Kovar wants to be playing regularly.
