The only team that matters
Surely the staffers have only been charged as leverage against them so they flip and testify against Trump to make prosecution case against him stronger
They lied to the FBI as well, the FBI don't like that, ask Mike Flynn

To me, from the perspective of America’s idea of freedom of speech, it is absurd that ongoing cases involving footballers cannot be openly discussed on this forum.
They could if so many people could resist the urge to say highly defamatory things. Doubly so when a court case could be prejudiced.

I think you missed my point there. The absurdity for me comes from the stark contrast in levels of free speech on a topic like that, not from what people might say. I know they’ll say bad stuff if it were discussed with the Caf registered in the UK or in the USA.

Free speech, like everything, requires limits. You shouldn't be able say anything about anyone, no matter the truth or otherwise of what you say. If you damage someone with what you say, with no provable truth, then you deserve to pay for that.

That said UK defamation law, with an assumption of guilt, is used by the wealthy to protect themselves from criticism by those who can't afford to go to court. And that is too far the other way imo.

The thing I don't understand is why do we care about UK law? I'm not a UK citizen posting on a non UK forum yet for some reason their weird absurd laws still play a role, because? Brexit means brexit goddamn.

That’s cool and all, I’m just saying that the UK’s bar for that is much, much lower than the one I’m used to. It’s not an argument, just an observation.

Non-UK forum? I don't know where the Caf is hosted but Ireland has incredibly close legal and economic ties with the UK...

And also, forget the laws, maybe not defaming someone without evidence is just a good way to live and do business.

And yet Ireland is still non-UK. It's probably hosted there, though.

Maybe, but clearly the laws are why the forum rules are the way they are.

Last time I checked we cared about UK law the most for good reason as the Caf is hosted there. It isn't so much that we fear being directly responsible for posters' defamatory comments but more the time, stress and cost of dealing with legal threats and lawyers. Plus we'd hate to have to pass posters details to lawyers, as may well happen if they get a court order.

All good reasons.

I thought it was hosted in Ireland, who have a bit of a history on whether they are in the UK or not... Didn't know it was hosted in the UK.

Uk defamation laws are there to protect a certain class of people. Open any British paper and you instantly know it's never been about defamation in general.

That's as may be but two wrongs don't make a right. Defaming everyone isn't necessarily a solution to Britain's class problems.

His defamation lawsuit against CNN has been thrown out...

"A Federal Judge has thrown out Trump’s defamation lawsuit against CNN.

Trump was trying to sue CNN for calling his election lies “the big lie.”

Judge Raag Singhal ruled that calling Trump’s statements about the election “a big lie” is not defamation because calling Trump’s election statements a lie, itself is not a false statement.

The judge did rule that the phrase itself (“The Big Lie”), which is a propaganda technique that Adolf coined the name of, was “repugnant” and “odious” but clearly stated that it is “not defamation when it does not include false statements of fact.”

It was in fact a lie that Trump was telling.

Another win for the truth.
Another loss for anti-semitic tropes.
Another loss for Trump."

Winning, bigly.

My brain can't get pregnant!
Trump supporters should be dissected and eaten or worn as clothes, repugnant creatures.

I agree. By Hannibal, Buffalo Bill or The Red Dragon......

Seriously though, it's gone beyond any normal semblance of sanity now. Especially with 40 of his own cabinet members refusing to endorce him. The obvious reply I expected and wasn't disappointed as I think it's the only one I've seen...

Oh, but that's because they are RINO'S or the Deep State and scared of Trump.

When confronted with... But I thought he only hires the best people? I just got either blocked, insulted or told I was spreading misinformation and they really are endorsing him it's just the media spreading lies again

The cabinet members and whoever else are just hedging themselves for the election cycle / criminal trials though right? They'll immediately fight to be the first up his colon, should he actually get through this next year.

For all the talk about criminal misuse of campaign funds as hush money for Stormy Daniels, I swear that wasting dozens of millions of dollars from Trump's PAC in legal bills has to be considered just as fishy as hush money.

The MSNBC host's reaction around the 4:52 mark is gold though.

Fulton County D.A. receives racist threats as charging decision against Trump looms
District Attorney Fani Willis warned Fulton County commissioners this weekend they should "stay alert" over the next month, according to emails obtained by CBS News.

She pointed to a threatening email she received last week with a subject line reading, "Fani Willis = Corrupt N*****." The body of the email said, "You are going to fail, you Jim Crow Democrat whore."

Willis said the message was "pretty typical" of what her office has been receiving and said she is aware of "equally ignorant voicemails" that have come into the county office and to her own office. She said she expects more over the next month. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported Wills' warning to the county commissioners.

"I took an oath. No one other than the citizens of Fulton County put me in this seat. I have every intention of doing my job. Please make decisions that keep your staff safe," Willis wrote.
The threats will only get worse as the GOP in Congress line up to threaten, harass and intimidate the prosecutors and witnesses on Trump's behalf. On one hand these threats are not at all surprising. A black woman prosecutor in Georgia daring to investigate and hold their orange messiah accountable. It leans right into their underlying issue and the reason they invaded the capital on Jan 6th in the first place. All these uppity black and brown people they detest in Georgia and Michigan who dare to vote against them not knowing their place.

It also highlights to those who have been wanting faster progress on these prosecutions and indictments. How difficult it will be how airtight these cases have to be. Even with all the publicly available admissions of guilt and incriminating evidence we have seen and heard from Trump himself, and his minions, since the election.
