Ramsdale must be one of the most arrogant fecks in the game will be hilarious seeing him replaced

You can’t keep 2 starting keepers happy, does nothing for the player or the team rotating a keeper constantly
This./

Could see this going full Henderson, i.e. comments in public & pie on face.

Good GK but I think Arsenal should sell Ramsdale if they sign Raya. I can only recall issues for teams that had two strong contenders to be #1 GK. Not that I can recall many of them.

Real Madrid : Courtois - Navas
PSG : Donnarumma - Navas
Liverpool : Mignolet - Karius

I think there was some issues also between De Gea and Henderson for a season or so?
Also United had issues when it was Howard and Carroll fighting it out. My memory may be wrong but also when DDG signed there was disharmony between him and Lindegaard.

I think this will stay for a season max 2. But most likely next year one of them will be sold. Most likely Ramsdale. Mind you he is not bad but is too cocky for his own good. There is a chace that this does light fire under him and he becomes great as the talent is there but it's unlikely especially in the GK position as if/when Raya gets a look in he would not look back.
Ideally would have like a much bigger upgrade but Raya has been our number one target for many seasons and a bigger upgrade would cost us dearly and this would be a 15m upgrade on Turner. Could be shrewd business.

This would be a bizarre transfer. I've never rated Ramsdale that highly, but Raya is a weird halfway house where he's not quite good enough to be replacing Ramsdale as first choice keeper but also too expensive to be coming in as just competition.

It's similar to the Havertz one, spending a significant sum on a player who doesn't have an obvious role for the first team.

Isn't Raya better by basically every metric. That said, Ramsdale is pretty good so spending £40m to upgrade a little seems silly.

It’s like us buying a new RB, of course we could upgrade but surely the money is better spent elsewhere at this point?

Seems an area of their team that does alright and doesn’t need changing but maybe I’m way off and he’ll be a game changer!

This surprises me. I thought Ramsdale was crucial to their buildup play but I guess I didn’t watch them / him consistently.
Show me a chart when they include vibes and showmanship and then we’ll see who’s crucial and who isn’t.

He might well be, I just don't think he represents a significant enough upgrade for it to be good value for money. Especially when you consider Arteta spent a significant amount to place his faith in Ramsdale not so long ago.

I mean, Raya has the obvious role for the first team. Goalkeeping.

It does seem a bit odd this move. Ramsdale was brought in for fairly big money, and likely being now replaced. I would have thought Arsenal would be investing elsewhere in the squad. I don't think Ramsdale is all that, but it doesn't seem, to me at least, as a major problem area for them which needs addressing.

Ramsdale is the most overrated keeper in the league and Raya is a decent upgrade. He's no Onana though.

He's also absolutely shit, and watching the Arsenal fans climb down from the "he's amazing" stance is a great watch.
Yep. I’m so ready for the Arsenal come down this year, they blew their best chance last year. I’m ready for AFtv to return to form.

It seems like the plan is to bring Raya in to compete with Ramsdale for the starter spot, and Matt Turner may leave the club. At this point not sure if Edu is going to meet Brentford's asking price. I do not aware any talk about Arteta losing faith in Ramsdale.

Makes sense to me, long said Ramsdale is gigantically overrated.
He's massively overrated at the key things for a GK, because he pulls out the odd worldie. That being said, he is a very good keeper when it comes to line breaking passes and distributing the play quickly and accurately. I've never rated him in the slightest, but I do see his strengths.

Him and their saliba-less defence was probably the reason they ended up winning feck all last season.

Interesting that 2 of the players Arsenal fans were huge fans of last season, Ramsdale and Partey are being upgraded (debatable) this summer.

Well you can blame Arteta as well because he decided to put all the eggs in one basket.

Doesnt strike me as being the area they need to focus on right now but off with them if they want to spend money there.

I have a theory that they’re spending big now because they’re anticipating the fallout of a certain situation in a few months which will see sponsors spooked, maybe leave and that would mess up their already tight FFP situation for next summer since it’ll take time to replace them.

I’ve just spoken to a friend who is a lifelong Arsenal fan - he is sincerely sure Raya is being purchased to sit on the bench, as a number 2, and has no doubts Ramsdale will continue as number 1

I tend to agree. I don't think Raya will come in and displace Ramsdale immediately. IMO Arteta wants competition for Ramsdale, he's probably gotten too comfortable. We just renewed Ramsdale's contract in May so don't think Arteta is looking to bin him. Ramsdale v Raya I'm here for it

Raya will be #1 by September. He's considerably better than Ramsdale and I'd have happily had him at Utd.

Probably at the start. It was the same with Ramsdale but it was obvious he was always going to displace Leno. It was only a matter of time.

Currently we need
1. Backup RW: most like this gets done with Kudus. We have Jesus/Havertz/Nelson as options there.
2. CF: Finding someone better than Jesus is challenging. And project signings won't work as we already habe 2 in Nketieh/Balogun. Also Trossard/Havertz can play there. So difficult to see any movement here this window any changes/upgrades need a 100m player not happening this window.

Then we have GK.

This is a pretty good value for money upgrade wise even though the upgrade may not be huge.

How have Arsenal not enquired about Henderson given his amazing sweeper keeper footwork and passing.

Strangest transfer this summer. Raya is rated highly, he said that he wants to go in big club to win trophies and then he picks to be second choice in bloody Arsenal. At keast he will start as no2.

He'll be no1. Much better at playing out from the back than ramsdale

There is no way Raya isn't no 1 in a very short time, of course they will leave Ramsdale in their for a small time, but no way Raya comes to be no 2

As I’ve already explained in this thread before £40m is the package we are looking for. Internally this is seen as a marker to be laid down in terms of not being soft touches in the transfer market. We don’t need the money, we already have our new number one in the door for next season. Balls in Raya’s agents and other club’s court to get it done. No way you get this done for £20-£25m unless that’s the initial fee with very achievable add-ons that take it up to approaching the £40m mark.
As expected Arsenal won't come close to the 40m. This will probably be rejected, but I dont think it will take much more for Brentford to sell.

Yet another clear indication that the GK market is tough this season if you are a seller. I really did not think Brentford would struggle to get 40M before the window opened but they may well have to settle for a lot less. I am getting resigned to the fact that Henderson is going to be staying this summer.
