10m euro plus 5m addon's for Fred. Awful as usual, took to August to get that. Selling him all Summer. John and Arnold are horrendous at negotiating.

I’d rather we were getting better at the buying to be honest.
Nominative determinism
But it’s been good to see us shifting some players, makes a change from the usual loan-a-player-to-Italy bullshit.

Not even remotely comparable situations. If you are not on a wind up then you just lowered the average IQ of posters on the Caf by a ridiculous amount.
It’s perfect. No notes.

Fred for 15 million when relegation fodder in Rice and Paqueta going for a combined 200 million suggests not..
United sells down while West Ham sells up to clients with more money than sense. That alone makes the comparison complicated.

It's probably an anomalous summer because I don't expect so many players being on the shelf next year.

At least we are getting rid. People thinking Maguire leaves for 50 or Fred with 1 year left for 30 need a reality check

I've been loudly critical about this aspect of United before. So credit where its due, we have done so much better.

I agree, it feels as though the pace and intent has improved a lot. There's obviously room for improvement, but a lot of that depends on how we buy and/or negotiate contracts to enable us to resell.

No we're not. We're just accepting that we can't sell players for reasonable fees because we give out stupid wages.
It’s that plus some decent fees. £15m for Elanga. £8m for a keeper who hasn’t played a first team game for us.

It’s not perfect. Not close. But it’s better.

Aye, good job some on here aren't in charge though... We'd have sold Maguire for £20m and Fred for a bag of crisps otherwise.

I'll believe it once I see McTominay gone. It's the most important transfer deal to do.

The keeper according to multiple reliable sources has gone for close to £4m or €5m….we’re still shit at selling. Just less shit than before.

We seem to be getting better at actually letting players go, too many players hung around for too long before we moved them on where as now we seem to be willing to refresh things more. With the wages we offer it's always going to be hard to get top dollar transfer fees but we're getting some reasonable offers for players this summer and hopefully the space we're making will allow a few youngsters to fill in here and there.

Then by definition we are getting better as the OP stated. In prior windows we preferred to keep deadwood on stupid contracts rather than work out a way to move them on andnow we are shipping them out. The question is not are we good at selling it is are we getting better and we are undeniably getting better.

Moving Elanga on at this stage is an improvement. Kovar I'm not sure but if there is a first refusal clause that's good.

Accepting that we have to let players leave for peanuts or nothing because they are on big contracts is not an improvement in selling for me. It's an admission that we fecked up.

People need to get real with the fees we're going to get for fringe players that are on absurd wages and have underperformed here for years.

We'd all like higher fees but 30-year old Fred and 30-year old Maguire generating £40million+ and saving us upwards of £300k a week isn't that bad.

Both of those are younger, better players who's respective previous clubs were reluctant to sell.

Fred is a 30 year old squad player at best on the final year of his contract on wages excessively disproportionate to his ability level. So we're not exactly getting a kings ransom for him. The fact we managed to sell him for a semi-substantial fee should be celebrated.

Under previous management he would undeservedly been given a new contract to 'protect his value', had his contract run down and left for free or we would have accepted Galatasarays pitiful first offer. So it's clear we've made progress from a seller's perspective.

I think a lot of it is driven by necessity, wage bill is too high and have to raise funds from sales consistently now because of demands of FFP.

Fred could play every domestic cup game for me and for that alone is worth more than 25m

We must have shaved 600k a week plus from wages just with ronaldo and de gea alone

I suspect the fact we now have to sell to buy has had a hand in this. Before, we were quite happy to protect our “assets” and let them sit there collecting dust.

This summer we’re having to take whatever we can get just to be able use the cash on a decent midfielder.

It's all about the Saudis not interested in our players!

Otherwise we are trying to get rid of players who everyone knows are surplus. They doing us a "favour" therefor the low prices. Sadly.

Better at selling and just releasing players. It must be like playing for a haunted club for new players when players like Bailly and Jones were still around. We’ve sold/moved/released Bailly, Telles, Jones, Henderson, Elanga, Maguire, and Fred. I’ll miss DeGea. We also let players leave instead of the perennial loans like Iqbal, Shoretire, Mengi, Savage (could be wrong on those players). When EtH seemed to not even give James Garner a chance, the new era with new standards had begun in earnest. (I’ll also miss Garner).

It’s been outstanding business, regardless of funds raised.

I think we've reached a bar of acceptability with our sales so far. Assuming Fred, Maguire and Henderson definitely depart for the rumoured fees. They're not huge money but for the standard of player and the clubs that are interested I think we've done okay.

If McTominay goes for around 40 I'll definitely give marks for that one as well. I don't think many would have banked on such a fee. That would be the most impressive one.

I think a lot of it comes from the manager. More decisiveness and demands are being made. I don't think it was all to do with negotiation. It's easy to wrap everything up under "negotiation" as if execs produce magical feats. I don't think they go out there hypnotising anyone. A lot of it comes from early decisions in the market, getting these players on the market at an early point and wrapping up our own business so the finances are informed. I get the impression this manager is extremely organised and precise and there are clear lines of communication regarding squad planning well in advance.

We will see about getting better. But at least we are finally selling, instead of hoarding deadwood. Last season, I think we had the second largest squad, yet had next to no depth. Because we used to "preserve value", or wait years upon years for someone to "come good". Eventually, they all walked for free. A positive change, certainly.

Many people need a reality check on the fees they expect, though. We are not selling sought-after young prospects, or proven winners that can be an asset to a smaller team. We are trying to shift unwanted dross, some on wages they have no business receiving, making it harder to sell down the table.

By the end of this window, I'm hoping to see all of Maguire, McTominay, Fred, Van de Beek, Henderson, and Bailly gone. At long last the link to the nightmare Ole era will be severed.
