Everyone dislikes him so much yet keeps his business going by maintaining it’s traffic. I don’t get it.

Twitter is way too big to fail quickly. If his decisions will be catastrophic enough to sink the platform, it will still take years.

It certainly won’t fall if the growing number who dislike it / him use the same platform to vent, meme, critique etc

That is not revenue though. The ad revenue decline is what will end the platform if they don't manage to turn it all around. That has been widely reported as has all the shattershot ways they have been trying to attempt to make money or claw some of the revenue back.
Competing services like Meta's Threads etc have to get better and attract users to get users to swap finally.

There’s nothing to get. They are addicted to the rush of serotonin Twitter provides. They are like smokers who know they’ll eventually get cancer or some shit like this. Until the cancer is there, they’ll happily live in denial.

I was in the football forum and noticed that when tweets are loading they show the bird symbol and say "Loading tweet" instead of "Loading X" or whatever the f**k they are now. I guess they still haven't updated that. I wonder if they even know.

They might get round to it eventually. Probably should focus on changing their domain name first. Folks with a 1980s mentality tend to forget about that sort of thing though so we'll just have to wait until they notice it. Or until they die of boneitis and everything reverts back to what it was previously.

And of course he'll investigate it for Rasmussen Reports, a polling organisation that leans heavily to the right.

Yeah, I also find that deeply pathetic. I hate this man so much I will continue to use his product to tell everyone how much I hate him. Just get a fecking life and delete your account. It’s not hard.

Both things could be true, though... Only one third of the users remain, but they're caught in a rabid hate cycle that keeps them hooked to the point where they spend more than 3 times as much tim(user-seconds) on the app as before.

There is a lot of people I follow on Twitter which produce content I enjoy reading. They are not all in one place on another community yet, or at least not enough of them.

feck Musk, why should him buying and doing his best to ruin something determine that I should lose something I find value in, even if that value is diminishing? I stick entirely to my following feed and have always tried to avoid the worst parts of it that some people seem to take pleasure in getting very annoyed at.

It’s dying a slow death, it’s costing him money and his reputation is falling into a sewer. That’s enough for me. If it was doing well despite his antics I might be more inclined to leave in protest but it’s not, it’s falling on its arse so it’s not exactly like we are putting money in his pocket or he’s building kudos.

I’m going to

U ok hun?

Seriously though. You’re literally putting money in his pocket. Will quitting Twitter really leave a hole in your life you can’t fill with something that doesn’t boost the metrics this tool is obsessed with? Maybe something a little more wholesome? I think we both know that deleting the app would probably be a net positive for your life/mental health anyway.

Blue subscribers are putting money in his pocket. He’s making absolutely feck all from adverts from basic users.

I appreciate you view Twitter as this monolithic beast of a community which has people on both the right and the left offending your centrist dad sensibilities but I’ve curated a list of accounts I either trust for news, enjoy their content or appreciate their views and takes on current events. Why should Musk’s purchase and subsequent antics mean I should give up those connections?

Twitter has absolutely zero bearing on my mental health. You’re sounding more and more like a Daily Mail journalist with every hysterical post you make about things that you have a strong opinion about and clearly believe everyone else should share.

Twitter is going to die or change ownership and I’ll applaud when it does. In the mean time I’ll keep supporting the content creators I value.

This whole X thing confuses me a lot. In my field of work we use X constantly when an information is missing in a draft. Each time I see "X" I have the feeling that one word is missing.

It's funny, I find the discussion about people who hate Musk quitting X/Twitter not quite dissimilar to the discussions around people who hate the Glazers stopping their support of Man Utd (and going for FC United, for example) and also the more current discussion about people who don't want a certain type of owners (state ownership especially) to buy over the club, swearing to quit United if it happens. The truth is that there is no absolute right or wrong behaviour in either case, and neither should there be.

I agree that it might be funny for people who hate the owner to stay on the app, spending time expressing hate for the owner but I guess they simply need to vent their feelings (it's a speech platform anyway) and they probably have other reasons why they enjoy the app and wouldn't want to quit (yet). I'm rather intrigued by Musk (neither hate, nor fanboy) and I can get why some don't like him yet I think unless your feelings against him are so strong that you don't want to partake in anything related, you can continue engaging on the platform and keep out of discussions which you are not comfortable with.

Likewise, people who felt really strongly about the Glazers left to create and support FC United, and probably look on somewhat puzzled at the Man United fans who stayed with the club and are always complaining/protesting against the Glazers. Personally, I want the Glazers gone because I think they are clueless at running a football club but I don't mind them staying on if the alternative is state ownership; yet I wouldn't stop supporting United if/when ownership changes (regardless of new owners) although others might be inclined to do so.

I really think people who quit X/Twitter due to Musk (like those who left for FCUM due to the Glazers) are still way too interested in the platform, and probably annoyed that others who think like them have stayed behind.

 A centrist dad and a hysterical daily mail journalist? You’re mixing your metaphors/insults there!

I can tell I’ve hit a nerve. Presumably because you know, deep down, that Twitter brings you very little joy and is, on balance, a net negative to your life So quitting it would enhance your life and be two fingers to Musk. But you’re addicted. So making that move is difficult.

If you’re absolutely convinced that this isn’t the case then it’s all good. I’ll leave you alone now.

You literally just ignore what people say and entirely convince yourself of your own projections.
