The people that persuaded United to pay that money for him deserve a massive bonus.

He's a complete and utter dud. Waste of space.

A very expensive mistake and we need to start accepting we've made a huge error with his purchase

Waiting for something to click for him, yet it never does. Even the shot that hit the post you just knew he would miss.

I still don't get it, man. What even is he? Most times he performs as a wide forward who gives off the impression of being rapid (but is actually severely lacking in pace). Other times he would be playing the role of a playmaker who likes to drift wide yet he's not particularly creative, either. He has good technique with the ball on his feet but little else. Such a confusing footballer.
He’s a good technical player with the ball at his feet but not when it comes to getting past players. He’s a freestyle player playing against proper defenders that don’t buy what he’s selling at this high level.

When your budget is as tight as ours and the quality in the starting eleven is as weak as ours it is catastrophic spending so much on a complete dud.
Sets us back years as we won’t have the money to replace him, so we have to start him or someone equally worse on the right.

Or when passing... Or shooting.

To brighten up the mood in here, can we remember when people compared or likened him to Robben

I fully agree his shooting is killing me. His passes are also most of the times overhit. A striker won’t make him better it’s all him and how he uses his skillset a striker can’t change who he is and make him use his right foot or stop him from cutting in and shooting.

He'll accumulate more yellows than goals this season.

I don't find him very likeable. If he was playing for Arsenal or somewhere else, we'd all be laughing at how they've wasted money on him. But the joke is on us. He's our more useful Nicholas Pepe, but that is a very, very low bar.
Pepe got 10 league for Arsenal in his second season. I'm confident Antony will not be reaching that any time soon.

How he lasted so long on the field was insane, he's absolutely garbage.

Can't take a man on, either over hits a pass or underhits it and he is a complete liability that gets himself and teammates into trouble.

Pellistri should start next game. Doubt ETH will bench his boy though.
To be fair though Garnacho, Rashford, Mount, Bruno, Antony have all been shocking in both games, but I doubt ETH will have the balls to drop all of them for the Forest game. I wouldn't be surprised if only Garnacho is dropped.

The Spurs left back, Udogie, had Antony in his pocket. Antony couldn't get past him.
That’s hardly saying much about Udogie tbh. Easiest day in the office he’ll have all season. The only left back Antony got the better of last season was Dan Burn. And he’s a 6’7 converted centre back with the turning circle of an oil tanker.

Watching him try and do ‘skills’ is just embarrassing. He’s Bebe/Obertan levels of bad. Some people just don’t want to accept it because of the money we spent on him. They’re burying their heads in the sand hoping it will all just magically come good. But it won’t. Because he’s crap.

This is the one red flag EtH has. He knew exactly what Antony was and thought is was a good idea for us to splurge significantly on him. Really worrying that.
There is absolutely nothing Antony excels at, just nothing. Nothing player.

You cant be serious with that bit. The guy cant beat a player what are you on about?

also I have never heard a player get defended for not having anyone to create for.
No he can't. Neither can any of our wingers. Largely because every opponent knows exactly what they are going to do and very few players in modern football can consistently get past a defender 1v1.

Antony will cut inside
Garnacho will cut inside
Rashford will kick and run
Sancho will go wide and turn back

Who else is there? They're all so easy to defend because they have no other outlet other than to take the player on.

We need overlapping fullbacks to provide width, we need a striker that makes crosses worthwhile, and we need players to make runs from deep. All those things provide variation and mean a defender can't just squat down and get ready for the 1v1.

Holy shit, you're right.

Season 1 (all comps)
Pepe - 8 goals in 42
Antony - 8 in 44

Season 2 (all comps)
Pepe - 16 in 47
Antony - 0 for 2, so far.

Those first season stats are a little eerie.  :wenger: :nervous:

I’ll wait to see how he does with an actual striker, but the bar is very low right now as he’s been shit
My worry is that it isnt going to make much difference, given his biggest issue is his decision making. I dont expect to see him make the pass to Rasmus, but instead to cut in and try to Hollywood ball 9 times out of 10.
The only passing he seems to do is backwards.

Him or the coaching staff...who is to blame of his lack of improvement? I mean I'd bring him in on a day off and force him to work on going right.

At least he only cut inside and converted the one over the bar today, unless I'm mistaken.

In which game? I recall Dan Burn actually doing a pretty good job on him in the Carabao Cup final. I remember in that game Antony look like he was going to break away, but got caught upto easily by Jacob Murphy.

Neither. He doesn't have enough talent to make the sort of improvement you expect.

He's currently better defensively than he's going forward. The other issue is that his shooting/finishing seriously need to improve if all he can do is cut inside, but his shooting continues to be a let down majority of the times. I do think the fanbase was very harsh on him last season but right now, he's not helping himself.

No excuse for a professional footballer to be as one footed as he is. It's just muscle memory, or lack of. Work on it. Wouldn't take long for him to be comfortable enough go down the outside and put the ball into the box, just to have another option. Unless he's running in behind, there's almost no point in giving him the ball. Everyone in the pitch knows what he's going to try to do.

Mid table wingers that are better than him in the PL forget top 6. Prove me wrong if so
Mitoma
Solly March
Olise
Bowen
Benrahma
Pedro neto
Willian
Jack harrison
Moussa diaby
Leon bailey

Must be plenty more. The absolute state of a £90m Manutd winger.

Just doesn't have the talent.

You cannot have a right winger that has no right foot. Antony only provides an illusion of width because he cannot do anything out wide. The opposition all know this and are aware he can only cut in . It squashes the team into the centre of the pitch on the right-hand side. I think I would prefer to stick Wan Bissaka on the wing. At least he can beat people on the dribble.

I sometimes wonder if it would be better to use Antony as a left winger instead.

Doing a great disservice to Mitoma there calling him a mid table winger. He's easily top quality and better than any winger we have got currently at the club. Don't be surprised if City go for him now that Paqueta deal is seemingly off.
