ETH thought Mount was worth prioritising over every other type of midfielder.
So, what we think he or United should've done is irrelevant really.

Personally I think ETH has seen a fair amount in Mainoo in recent months to feel confident in making him a first team player.
We need to stop letting our ten Hag dictate our transfers then as he clearly can't be trusted.

Let's hope ETH starts playing these young players. If he ends up with another completely wasted season we won't be able to attract the best prospects as they know there's nothing to be had here.

Unfortunately I can definitely see him picking Sancho and even Bruno ahead of him if his boy Antony is missing.

Glad we’re keeping the best right winger after Amad

In the next 30 hours we seem to do (complete) deals for:
* Henderson (out)
* Bayindir (in)
* Reguilon (in)
* van de Beek (out)
* Amrabat (in)

Heck a lot to do.

And absolute silence on Bailly front.

Pellistri had a wasted campaign last year. We should've done our utmost in finding him a good club to get down some much needed gametime.

Shaw was playing in the PL when he was 16. Obviously with the talks of a sale and the fact the management are going back into the market says all we need to know about what the manager thinks of Alvaro right now. He should be getting the game or be let go. If he can’t step into the team at 20 for a few months it’s not great
You can't use an exception to prove the rule though, Shaw's path is not normal. Alvaro has only played for Preston and more so in a back 5 as a wing back, it's not the right path to the first team to just drop him is as first choice. We're going back to the market as well, because even if we did decide to go with Alvaro, he would have no back up. He won't be able to play PL and CL back to back all of a sudden.
Destroy ? abit melodramatic.
He could very much rise to the occasion, especially with the full backing from his manager.

Anyway, I guess the fact United are willing to move Fernandez on, loan or permanently, says it all about ETH views on the player.
Shame really. Looks like quite a direct, enthusiastic fullback.
I think dropping him in against one of the best RWs, if not the best RWs in the league would be a sure way to potentially kill the lads confidence. Again, remember he's only played championship football at a senior level. I think he needs game time, but we can't go into a season with him being our sole, natural LB - even if we decide to start him.

@VP89 you might be correct on Mason Mount in the end but considering the current pathetic situation and the holes in our team, do you still think it was worth buying him and spunking 60m of our budget?
It was completely idiotic.
Don't tell me, tell @VP89

The problem is, most of the posters who have shat on Mount were pre-planning it before he kicked a ball. They were whinging and moaning and questioning the transfer and couldn't wait to jump on him.

I prefer to take a more rational approach --> 1) was he a priority for our manager 2) do I back our manager and 3) does the manager have pedigree in getting the best out of talent, even when he's questioned. The answers are yes, yes and Tadic/Haller etc. say yes too.

To that end, I have absolutely no problem with him spending on Mount, heck I saw good logic in it. For that advanced midfielder role Mount suits it on paper very well.
If we didn't, Liverpool or Arsenal would have snapped him for a similar fee. Either Klopp, Ten Hag, Arteta are all idiots, or the true "idiotic" thought comes from the so called supporters who wanted to shit on the transfer before a ball was kicked.

I'm personally frustrated because even I, as someone not involved in professional football, was seemingly able to see better than our own manager that the signing made 0 sense. Not only did it not make sense but we've gone and wasted a significant portion of our budget on him when we already have Fernandes who's miles better. Which is now coming back to bite us because we can't afford to make signings for positions we actually need. It's ridiculous squad planning.

People have said this, or some paraphrased version of this, about literally every single transfer we've made in 10 years and in most cases the concerns have been well justified and the managers inevitably sacked. It's such a cop-out response. Mount is someone we don't need years to judge, he's been playing in the league for years already. I didn't rate him before he joined, I didn't pretend to rate him when we were linked and I'm not going to pretend to rate him now.

He was really good for Sevilla so there is a player there, but that player has been hiding for 2 seasons
In fairness Spurs have been all over the shop since the good Poch years so not an easy place to settle in. But then again we are all over the place as well ….

It looks like he is coming so may as well get on board.

Did people really think we were going to sign a top LB on loan for three months?

This transfer window really shows what the Glazers plans are for United now they're sticking around. Mid-table signings for mid-table ambitions. Reguilon is an Everton signing.

Please everyone calm down about Reguilon. Its an emergency singing for cover at left back. We don't know how much he'll even need to play: presumably if Fernandez is up to the task, he'll play anyway. No sense putting up 50m to buy Roberto Carlos in this situation.

No way McT goes there..
If Paulinha goes to Bayern and ETH actually wants Amrabat and is prepared to play Hannibal occasionally (along with mainoo when he comes back) then.. it's not out of the question. He'll cost much much less than they get for Paulinha, and they already have 1-2 guys there to play purely DM roles. Plus Andreas has worked out Ok for them, so they have recent history for getting a tune out of united cast-offs...

The glazers will be gone. I have zero doubts that this will happen. Heard will be a September announcement.
