When Fergie bought players who turn out didn't measure up to United standard, he gave them opportunities to start multiple matches. I think he only have little patience for goalkeepers.

Don't remember Bebe, Manucho, Obertan, Dong Fanzhou, Bellion, Liam Miller, Djemba^2 getting a lot of matches. DVB is right up there with these players.

Like who? They were moved on after a couple of seasons for the most part, and that was only after playing 2 or 3 league cup games a season before getting us knocked out.

Exactly. If you spend £40m on a player, then you have to give them at least a run of 4 or 5 games to test them. It can take players a year or so to adapt to a new league, but they never will if they never play.
I don't think a price tag justifies giving any player a run of games in the starting eleven, someone's level of play is. Van de Beek has been underperforming since the first season, with people questioning his capabilities from the first couple of games we saw him play, and rightly so. You don't then just give someone a run of games out of good faith that a player miraculously start showing qualities that he hasn't shown before. I get the 'adapt to the league' narrative after 6 months or even a season, but this bloke has been here for 3 years already.

If you have played football at any level you would know the Donny didn't get a chance argument is just an excuse. Its very easy to see why Donny didn't get a chance. First the manager would have seen much more of what we usually see in those limited game time.
Donny is just not assertive enough to make an impact, some people say he lacks the physical qualities and all and I don't think that's the issue at all. I saw Garnacho play for the first time during last summer preseason and it didn't take 15 mins for me to know what he brings because he wasn't afraid to express himself on the pitch.
Donny looks like a scared kid playing against men. He is the exact opposite of Bruno, he's too scared of making mistakes or even getting on the ball. He doesn't trust himself at all, he shows very little self confidence. I only saw him come out of his shell once that is in Ole final game vs Watford.
Fact is mentality is a big factor at a club like Man utd, the best players to play for this club don't only think they're good enough to be here, they think they're "the best". Rooney, Ronaldo, Cantona, Keane, Beckham, Bruno and even someone like Pogba or Garnacho are not shy characters. The pressure of United crushes the feeble.

Couldn't be arsed to find stats for all of them, but Djemba2 was starts 3 of the first 4 matches of his debut season. He also starts consecutive matches in ECL, and have several consecutive matches in PL.
Same goes with Kleberson and Kagawa, two players who are bought with decent fee for good potential but never worked out.
Bebe, Manucho and the rest of your list were cheap punts that's never going to get much chance, not the same with van de Beek

Possible, I do remember seeing Djemba^2 and Kleberson more than the rest. It's a chicken or egg situation with DVB. If we play him and he doesn't perform (which is way more likely than the possibility of him suddenly starting to perform), ETH is in a soup. Maybe in a few league cup matches against weaker opposition at home.

Even Ajax don’t want him after selling multiple players themselves. You would think after selling kudus they would go for VDB who was quite successful with them. They always take back their Dutch players especially an academy graduate who’s still in his mid 20’s. But nope, not even on loan. I hope for his sake if nothing else he goes somewhere else today because this has nothing been short of a disaster for him and for us. Pick someone anyone, it’s time to move on.

Davy Klaassen is going to Inter, there's a market for this type of player after all.

I do think Fergie might have more leeway because his teams generally was the best in the league and such an well-oiled machine that it's easier for him to give chances to new players.
But I still maintain that it would have been more beneficial in the long term for United to give similar chance to Donny. Right now I think his lack of appearances really hurt our chance to sell him

Price tag is difficult to compare, but Kleberson took a huge chunk out of the transfer budget. We could mention Djemba-Djemba and Bellion. According to your logic Fergie ruined these players.
Kleberson was a strange one because he was apparently convinced by Ronaldinho to join us and thought they'd be linking up together. He also got injured in his second game or something. Ferguson did also play him out of position quite regularly which didn't help.

Ferguson was by no means perfect, he occasionally took punts on players that didn't work out. We sold Veron and Beckham that same summer for over £40m and signed Kleberson and Djemba Djemba for £10m. That should tell you enough about what kind of budget we had to work with. Of course he spent big on certain big names, but he was usually pretty frugal in the transfer market. This was before the Glazers as well.

The key difference though is that Ferguson had earned the right to make the odd mistake and we knew he'd figure things out eventually. Ole definitely hadn't earned that right and we somehow ended up with Maguire and Van De Beek for £120m and being unable to shift them once we knew their time was up.

Luton would be a good move, lots of playing time in the Prem and would be a senior player. At this point he just needs to get his career back.

I suspect they do they just think they can get him for free most likely. He’ll leave today I think or get loaned out.

Man, you are living a dream this season. :D
It still feels great being in the PL. If you look through our history, you'll see what I mean

Sky released a great video on YouTube called "the fall and rise of luton town" and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Oh, i was not sarcastic there. Seeing your club in PL after so many years must be great stuff, no matter how results are.
And for Donny; he is not good for United maybe but he would be a mark signing for Luton.

I hope so. Maybe less pressure environment would help him.

I don't see the value in loaning him out, apart from getting someone to pay his salary for a year.

Its not like Luton would pay the fee to buy him when they get relegated at the end of the season.

May as well keep him see, if by some chase, Ten Hag can get a tune out of him.

Whatever happens to Donny today, I'll never forget the post that favorably compared Ole to Sir Alex.

Good point! That’d also explain (partly) why new players and youngsters at City tend to look better than our recruits.

Insane that United can buy a Balon D'Or nominee and in a few seasons we are struggling to sell him.

How is it that Greenwood can find a club and this guy can't. How bad do you have to be.

I mean one is a really talented player and the other barely looked a footballer at least for United.
