how is this the best performance, it's one of the most boring game, we've been in control but really we had a single chance and one corner which wouldn't be converted 19/20 times. Could have easily been 0:0. Slightly better team, who can press and we are fecked.

Can't believe this is entertaining for anyone. Why are players instructed to shit their pants being over the line and play the back to centrebacks? I guess this is the Ten Haag ball.
Crystal Palace are sitting with 11 players behind the ball. 2:0 is quite good, considering this team is usually absolutely dire at breaking low blocks and gets carved open on counters.

It's the best performance this season. Remains to be seen if we feck it up second half.

    We’re playing as a team.
Amrabat playing very well as LB, CDM, LCM, CM, can’t wait to see him start as a CM, think he’ll be great.

Mount starting to show people why ETH wanted him.

Really hope Bruno and Rashford don’t start Saturday. Ideally, put a proper LB, and play Amrabat in CM take out Hannibal

I’ve seen City play this exact same game and everyone wanks over them for it.

I'm confused. Are we playing with Amrabat and Casemiro deep in midfield, and Mount and Hannibal ahead of them? So who is playing left back? Garnacho?

Yes, Palace are shite tonight but we're playing with a lot of fluidity and it's great to see. We're all over them.
Amrabat is LB whos stepping into midfield when we have the ball. Sort of like inverted fullback. But we've had so much control of the game it might appear he's playing midfield all the time.

Amrabat double jobbing as a FB and MF and doing well at both so far but hopefully the FB role is only as a stopgap tonight , MF is where we really,y need him full time.

So far so good. Palace showing very little ambition in the 1st half. Sucking Palace to the left and then switching the play to Dalot and Pellistri is causing them a lot of problems. Hopefully we can see this game out without too many problems from here.
It's been a long time since I've seen a game where most of our attacking has been down the right instead of the left.

I knew Amrabat would make a difference in our ability to control the game. What’s even more impressive is the fact he’s doing it while playing at fullback! Can’t wait to see I’m play in his usual position. Casemiro, Amrabat, Mount/Bruno midfield is the way forward.

I wouldn't be getting carried away that Amrabat is going to get the freedom of Old Trafford in every game.

A lof of this is due to Palace. It's a poor disinterested side they've put out.

It's a different ball game in the league when teams play their strongest sides and they're motivated. You can only beat what is in front of you, we deserve credit so far but there is rightfully an asterisk attached to everything that happens against a team with no interest in putting any pressure on or off the ball in the league cup. There are definitely two ingredients, Palace being shite and us exploiting it.

I love how the front 5 all counter press together. Like little raptors. Attacking as a group

Enjoying Amrabat being all over the place, demanding the ball, playing it forward, tracking back.

Palace might well be the easiest game he'll ever play for us but still, nice to see a proper midfielder actually playing the position properly
Casemiro, Mount and Amrabat were all rotating into various positions around the pitch. I'm pretty sure Mount dropped back into the RB spot, into midfield in the left half space and both wings at times. Dalot swapped with Pellistri as well.

    Fecking hell, what a pessimist.

We've been really good tonight and are playing some quality football.

Great to have Varane and Mount back plus Amrabat looks quality.

Pellistri is doing some good work with his movement, even if he’s not been as effective with the ball.
Mitchell is having to stick to him like a limpet and it’s repeatedly opening up the space for Dalot to get forward.
That’s causing Palace all sorts of problems on their left side.
He had a vital part in the opening goal too.

Hannibal better watch his step in the 2nd, with that early yellow card.

If only Martial would press properly with some urgency and purpose.

Feels like a sort of 3-1-2-4 in build up with one of Amrabat/Casemiro sitting between the CBs and the other pushed ahead of them. Dalot overloading the right side with Pellistri and Mount/Hannibal in the half spaces.

I really like it because A. Amrabat takes pressure off Casemiro of having to take the ball on the turn under pressure so much which he's poor at and B. both CMs can take passes on the turn unlike Bruno or Eriksen. Add in Martial in the middle and we retain possession excellently with this lineup.

The perfect game (or half) so far for us, as Palace are rather poor, and without much ambition, not carrying much of a threat. Amrabat seems ok, Mount has made a big difference, and having two right-footed players on the right, gives us a natural balance.

I actually hope Palace step up a little bit, as I want to see us go up a gear.. get Garnacho into the game earlier, encourage him to be direct. But it's good to watch us and not be so fed up!

Hannibal is coasting.. I want to see these young players really drive the game forward.. they should be giving is energy, imagination, have shots, score goals, create chances... I don't want people to knock the ball around to each other safely, that's easy against a side who are hardly playing.

The way amrabat has been drifting into midfield makes me forget that Shaw is even our player. Does Amrabat have a twin we can sign?

Good first half, I wish we could create more vut Palace are being stubborn and just staying put in front of the goal with 4 buses. I think pellistri has worked hard, he needs to show more end product and should have scored. He gets in very good positions. Hannibal has been quiet but done his role well and kept the ball ticking. Garnacho tracking back makes a different, Rashford who? Mount is showing reasons why we signed him but I cannot see him and Bruno together in the same team. Varane as usual is class, Dalots best game this year, casemiro is now our top scorer and martial, well he's done nothing but not unusual for him. Finally, shout out to maguire, he's had a lot of heat and he pretty much saved us from going 1 down and this could have been a different game. Played well and look composed. I hope he turns it around, we need him to come good.

Basically base shape and out of possession:
    Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Amrabat
    Casemiro
    Hannibal Mount
    Pellistri Martial Garnacho
    In possession:
    onana
    Varane Amrabat Maguire
    Casemiro
    Pellistri Hannibal Mount Garnacho
    Martial

Is Dalot on the bench when we have the ball? (Also Amrabat and Casemiro have swapped a decent amount too)

Palace have been absolutely woeful, everyone behind the ball but still leaving mad space. Almost hope they improve just so we can see how some of these guys do in a competitive match.

However putting 5/6 past them and getting some confidence back would be a good option as well.
