Surprised by how many people think we played terribly. It wasn't a vintage performance but at a weird kick off time with no recognised left back on the pitch and all of our back 4 and first choice defensive midfielder missing we... deservedly won a game of football?

I think because we started so slowly people's characterisation of the entire game gets skewed. United looked pretty disjointed and awkward for about the first 30 minutes - we were on the back foot and it felt a bit shit. But from the time they equalised we started to dominate possession and basically ground out half a dozen decent chances in the last two thirds of the match and one of them went in to put us ahead.

It wasn't spectacular football but it wasn't woeful either. We started slow, got better and given the circumstances I'm pretty happy with the win.
If you think we played anything but terribly, your standards are in the toilet. We're talking about the worst team in the prmier league who are also struggling with injuries. We should not be scraping a win, we should be winning comfortably and dominating them over the 90.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
A big win given the context of things overall.

It’s these kind of games that’re so important to win.

I’m not Erik’s biggest fan but today is no day to be digging him out.

Think of Sir Bobby’s free soul watching that win and giving a big, warm smile.

That’s all that matters today - nothing else.

A good win on a tough day.

Dalot’s goal was reminiscent of many of Sir Bobby’s with regards to distance, albeit Sir Bobby usually put more power into his shots, so at least we got that as the winning goal on this awful day.

As for the rest of the game, we were really poor against a poor team but still probably should have won by more considering we hit the bar twice and missed 2 sitters (including the Garnacho one which was borderline offside). Nowhere near perfect, but at least we’ve made progress since the Palace loss by increasing our tempo when desperately needing a goal. We looked like we were happy to lose against Palace.

Also, Garnacho and Højlund are absolutely excellent. Their end products are inconsistent at best and non-existent at worst, but their all round games are brilliant. Give it time and the end product will inevitably come, at which point we’ve got 2/3 of our attack sorted for the foreseeable future.

We’re really poor. We play like this and there’ll be no hiding place against City.

3pts, big pile of poo of performance, people can be happy with it but like it happened many times in the past, it will catch up on us and then there wont be a positive result to mask it.

I nearly fell asleep during this match. Very little to get the blood going. Journeymen. I get the whole “keep your shape” but where is the guile, the invention? Eriksen was the only player creating. Bruno was like Bad Fred. Everyone else played like strangers to each other.

I recently watched the 5-3 second half blitzkrieg against Spurs, when we were down 0-3 at the break, Becks, Scholes, Ruud, etc. The passing, movement, and commitment of that team was incredible. Maybe only Dalot’s strike today would be comparable to that day. I hate when we get the ball wide then just stop, pass it back, left to right, right to left, then invariably misplace a 10 yard pass.

will Bruno and Rashford ever be dropped? No one in the team today gets anywhere near that team. I’ve been waiting for the new dawn and it never arrives.

I hope that match had a lot to do with fatigue following the international break. That first half was absolutely woeful especially. Take the first 20 minutes, where we're normally good in the first 20-25 minutes, tonight we looked devoid of any quality and I thought we were lucky not to see yellows on Maguire rushing out of position to make an interception only to plow through his man and give away free kicks early on. Amrabat looks a yard off the pace and there was one challenge in the first quarter of the game where he took out a man and the ref didn't give the foul. He looked to be dangling his feet a second too late all game. Hope that's a fitness issue and not that he's too slow and cumbersome for the Premier League.

Relief to get the win.

It's quite a disadvantage to play away at 20:00 on a Saturday with the home crowd absolutely rocking. Like at Burnley. Not an excuse, but I thought beforehand it was a bit unfair. Definitely like to see this evened out for other sides too.

The invisible (goal scoring scots) man. Clear handball but also the only player who can score in the box currently.
Issue being we're rarely in the box when he's on as we're -1 actual footballer in the midfield department due to said invisibility

Not really. It’s not on McT that Bruno plays like an amateur at times and Rashford and Antony are brainless.

A point off Newcastle in 5th. The good times are coming, lads. It'll be a season of dirty, single goal victories. I'm totally up for it.

Pen = xg 0.75
Hojlund missed few tap ins which xG didn't register at all. Garnacho's offside would've been overtuned had he scored. Those chances could easily been + xG 0.5-0.7.

This is why xG is fecking bullshit sometimes
Yeah, I'm not saying the xg number is wrong. Just that it is not at all indicative of the relative goal scoring chances in this game.

Our defence is too ropey to play attractive football. Our midfield is functional without being creative. Too many injuries. Too many old players. Stinks of Glazer short termism rot.

Quality if our play is that of a lower-half team, for sure. And yet we pay these boring, underperforming, inconsistent players record wages. No wonder we are in trouble. If our defense can at least blame injuries, there is no such excuse for the attack.

This season, Rashford and Anthony can't score goals to save their lives. It is beyond ridiculous. Garnacho and Pellistri have moments of brilliance, but are not ready for grown-up football. Hojlund is still inexperienced, needs better assists, and clearly has fragile back that limits his game time and could become a major problem.

Incremental improvements are useless with this state of matters. We need to sell everybody overpaid, do total overhaul with lesser known talent, purchased for lower prices with lower wages, and maybe in 5 years we can be a team worth watching.

Right now, watching us is trashy. If I were not a lifelong United fan, I would not want to ever see United play

Mind-boggling how dire our play has been this season, going back to pre-season. We scraped the win, but it was a scrape. And the quality of the opponent should not be overlooked.

All things considered that was a decent win. So many injuries. Just look at the state of the back four today. Patched up team. Sir Bobby passing on. Poxy penalty was all they had. Can't be critical towards the team today. Fair play to them in my opinion.

When did Pellistri have a moment of brilliance? Personally i think he wont be good enough.

Onana is slowly picking up. A few of his saves were a bit odd. But he’s had a few decent matches in a row now. Really wanted him to save the penalty as that could have been a landmark turning point. Think he’s starting to come good. Would like to see more ball playing from him thou.

Shit but winning is better than decent but not. You keep grinding them out till things start to click. Another ugly victory against Copenhagen, escape the City game with a draw, a couple of the walking wounded make their way back and the season starts to look a whole lot better.

The short to medium passing was bad again. In fact Maguires passing was probably the best for us today. Quite a few 40 yard passes out to the left wing. I cant see any improvement over last season tbh. I know the defence has suffered, but it is a 25 man squad plus youth. Midfield and attack is as bad, yet we have more players to pick from.

Maguire has actually been very good this season amusingly.
Perhaps taking off the armband and being a squad player has lifted the pressure and scrutiny off. Hence, he can fully focus on his play and perform better.

All I was thinking throughout the game was, "Wtf do these guys do in training?" There were no clear playing style and they played like they'd just met each other and were having a kickaround.

When you decide to jump on the lump-two-players-to-slate-at-once bandwagon… Now it’s Rashford and Bruno. Doesn’t have the same ring as McFred. As for the game… Great win. Pity Bruno’s free didn’t dip. McT strikes again. And Dalot? Likeable player, did a good interview as well as scoring a peach. When United win, the state of this place.

Hojlund missed 3 golden chances at 5-6y, and you called that absolutely excellent?

Would also add that Rashford wasn’t as bad as the ratings showing in here. He will come good again. Ten Hag is an exciting manager; hopefully he will get to see the fruits of his work at OT.

I am delighted for Harry Maguire. He’s shown his character and heart, not to mention solid football ability.

RIP Bobby Charlton. Our Kid gone at last to the place of Safe Landings, Duncan Edwards and his Big Kid taciturn and Lanky brother.

We are diabolical to watch. Playing a dogshit team and yet there's 0 intent to actually build up from the back. At a time when top sides are moving to 4 instead of 3 midfielders, we completely vacate the midfield and bypass it to go long down the channels. McT who's supposed to be the 2nd midfielder spends the game at right midfield or next to Hojlund while Evans, Lindelof etc randomly pop up in midfield from time to time. ETH needs to find solutions when the opponents put 2 men in the middle to cut off the passes but instead we just say feck it and become a hoof ball side.

A win is a win, we needed that.

Rashford - Bruno - Antony might be one of the worst forward lines I have seen, though. Each worse than the last. I feel bad for Hojlund.
