How's this wildcard look? @CassiusClaymore @Dirty Schwein @Amir @BootsyCollins @Moby

Poor team value, but can get a decent set of the big hitters out.

Areola Turner
Trippier Gabriel Burn (Tsimikas Gusto)
Salah Saka Martinelli Maddo (Soucek)
Haaland Alvarez (Archer)

Biggest downside I think is no Watkins. No Son either, but really struggling to get him in with this cast. And not sure he's up front now? Back to left?
Can't have everything. Think it's a solid team although I would try at least get one villa asset.

Not bad - I think I’d want Cash more than Gabriel myself though. (Downgrade Soucek)
Cash is one of these players who can get a monster haul, but never for me. Arsenal have Sheff Utd at home this weekend too, which looks key to cover.
It's no Watkins which looks worrying, but quite hard to cover if I want Haaland, Salah and Trippier in there with a good mid.

Could reduce Soucek to whoever the 4.5m best starter is and upgrade Burn to Cash and have Cash and Gabriel.
Would mean I probably have to play 4-4-2 most weeks though as wouldn't have any sort of 5th defender or 3rd attacker.

I've got Cash and Diaby at the moment. But not sure I've had more than 2 points out of either of them for weeks.

Same for me with Digne but they're next 3 fixtures should yield points.
Had a double check, and Soucek (4.9) to a 4.5/4.6 would allow for Burn to Cash instead.

That would mean fielding this for the first 11

Chimpy keeper
Trippier Cash Gabriel Tsim
Salah Saka Martinelli Maddo
Haaland Alvarez

At least the 4.5m chumps in attack and mid would be starters if they need to get wheeled in. Gusto as the other sub may lose his place soon.

Yes no Waktins is dangerous, when you consider his next games also.

Or Lascelles for Burn and save 0.8. Gusto I dont get. You’re on a wildcard and James returns

He's super cheap and there's not many better options is all.
But Watkins playing Luton changes it I think.

Will have to re-think.

Will look at a no Haaland template. Early season that was utter madness, but last month or so i think people have used that approach really well, especially with Salah in their side.

There will be games Haaland kills it and you have to be strong. But a no Haaland draft covers him and then some.

My no Haaland draft so far has gone well, 80pts this week with 3 spurs players left, last week was a similar haul. Salah, Watkins, Son, Tripper, Saka are now key captaincy options who can be in one team if there were no Haaland (Alvarez covers instead). I think it's worth it but easy to say while Haaland is getting limited to one goal a game if that.

Dont think you need many options in defence to be honest. Tsimikas might play a lot the next 4-8 games. Personally I play Tsimikas, Burn, Trippier and Im 200k in rank only going up after making the switch to 3 in defence.

Lamptey and Lascelles both have better fixtures and are at 3.9. Gusto for 0.3 more to only sit the same amount on the bench as Lamptey and Lascelles is a waste imo.

Lascelles will be bombed straight out of the team soon though won't he?

Yeah you really need to try and get Watkins in. Starting to think he's the Salah of Villa. Been unimpressed with Diaby every time I've watched him live so he's got to go after Luton for me.

Yep, on reflection, Watkins is as key as Trippier and Salah I think.

I should have learnt my lesson with this trying to cover a team with their 2nd best option stuff from years back.
Diaby hasn't delivered anything for ages.

Brighton have a great run coming up, so will look at their mids again too.

Shame Lamptey is back on the red flag nonsense again. De ja vu!

Thinking hard about doing Archer to Watkins and play with 3 forwards (Haaland, Alvarez and Watkins).
would then have to take out Son for someone like Gordon or maybe Palmer (if he stays on pens)
Midfield would then be Ödegård-Bruno-Maddison-Diaby-Gordon/Palmer ect
And defence are Saliba-Udogie-Cash-Trippier-Estu.

Should i do it?

Edit : Then move out Diaby for whoever of Palmer/Gordon i am not choosing now. Maybe even can afford Bowen.

It's funny, I was just looking at the opposite, moving down to an Archer, ditching Haaland and it giving an absolute beast of a line up, bar the massive elephant in the room no Haaland!

Ok lads, this actually feels superb for a no Haaland draft!

Turner Areola
Saliba Cash Trippier Tsim Burn
Salah Saka Martinelli Son Maddo
Alvarez Watkins (Archer)

High risk? Or will the above make up for the big gaps you'd have with Haaland in there?

Already fretting over next week. Very happy with my team on paper, but no Arse coverage vs Sheff Utd worries me. I even have 2x FTs but can't quite work out how to get in Saka.

Probably one of those classic kill yourself to get big coverage, then it ends up being 1-0 with some chump like Zinky scoring.

City have a difficult run (bar Bournie 2 weeks time).

Salah to Neto
Alvarez to Haaland
would do it in 2.

Could just have Haaland and Neto instead of those 2 now I suppose! But Salah seems on a points rampage.

The team looks good, but no Haaland before he plays our backfour next week is risky, very risky. Then again, there is a run of matches now where you could go for other captains than him and then you might make up for it.
I did the Son to downgrade and Archer to Watkins move before any rises, so we will see how it turns out.
Knowing my luck you will come out really good with that team.

Ok, I've just sacrificed Haaland for Salah given City's tough run to week 16 and Liverpool's easy run. So if the android cnut hauls in the next five weeks, I'm going to fall behind 89% of all FPL managers.

Is Martinelli likely to be a worthwhile player in the coming weeks?

Otherwise it's grand, and not terribly different to my team. Being able to bring in Tsim for Burn during Newcastle's Week 11-14 run will be very handy.

With Villa, Liverpool and Tottenham having good runs, and Arsenal playing Sheff Utd home next, there just seemed to be big losses whichever way I tried to cut it, with Haaland in there.
Take him out and can get a brilliant 11 out, with a couple of options for defence too. Didn't even have to sacrifice Saliba.

I'm already miles down my work league, so it might be the time to take the calculated gamble with Haaland. At least in the short term.

Think I'll set it like I wrote tonight, then weigh up late week.

Martinelli is back now and one of their key threats isn't he? Played 78 yesterday feeling his way back.

Fair enough, maybe I'll buy the cnut then. I rage deleted him earlier this season.
All tips from me post the first month of the season must be stamped with a disclaimer of crap performance since.
I don't even want to know how much value I lost from my 3 United. Must have been close to 1m.

Yeah that's probably about as good as a no Haaland draft can get. Don't think I'd have the balls to do it mind.

I'll set it tonight, then if I want to bottle it Friday I can and switch Salah and Alvarez out to facilitate

Is Alvarez, Son and Diaby to Mitoma, Saka and Watkins worth a -4, though I could just do Son and Alvarez to Saka and Watkins for free.

In 2 or 3 games, yes probably - but Botman’s current injury problem seems to be a bit on and off and there were fears of an operation needed so who knows if Botman gets rested now and then. Not the worst bet at 3.9 imo as their defenders play 90 or 0, but he could of course drop to 3.8 if many transfer him out.

Thankfully Watkins and Bowen have turned my red arrows into green. Just need to hope that Maddison and Udogie blank tomorrow as a lot of people still have 3 players left to play whereas I only have 1.

I have the same setup as you, but i think i will give Diaby 1 more chance with the Luton game and ship him out after that.

I used my wildcard for this GW9, sold Haaland in favour of having the midfield of Salah as captain, Saka, Son, Maddison and Diaby + Watkins and Alvarez in attack.

Risky, but it helped me reach the top again in all my mini leagues. Defence was also solid with the contributions of Trippier and Tsimikas. Now I'm still waiting for three Spurs' players tonight as I have Udogie too.

So this is my current "no Haaland" team:

GK: Turner, Areola.
DF: Cash, Trippier, Udogie, Tsimikas, Coufal.
MF: Diaby, Salah(C), Saka, Son, Maddison.
CF: Watkins, Alvarez, Edouard.
