His performances have been concerning this season. So much so that I was gutted to see Evans get injured. What crazy alternate reality are we living in where Evans can be deemed more reliable than Varane?

If he's pissed off at EtH for not being played he's not exactly proving him wrong...

Mystery whats happened to him. Has he fallen out with ETH, our best defender not selected so we can slot Harry right CH? Then he comes on and plays like a pub team defender.

Interesting how quick posters are to justify the reasons for his absence because of his cameo as if the manager has got all his recent selections spot on.

He was shit tonight but the overreaction is laughable as always on here.

He can't be relied upon and he had a stinker so where is the overreaction?

So we basically bought them to give us one good season then struggle to get rid of both and have to spend more money to replace them ? Both costed us combined close to 100m and now we have to replace both.
With the Saudis around I don't think we'll find it hard to move them on. As for signing players for one good season: I don't see why this is an issue. Fergie signed Van Persie specifically for that one season where he single-handedly won us the league, scoring crucial goals week after week. The same logic applies to last season where we could have achieved a lot more if it wasn't for a complete capitulation first leg against Sevilla or even the FA Cup Final against City where we played really well.

Varane is not even that old to be in decline. Must be either his fitness or he has downed the tools. That was shocking performance

Not denying that he had a stinker but those saying he doesn't want to be here etc are overreacting unless they know him personally. The same is said about Casemiro, was said about De Gea, has been said about Rashford. Its tiresome. Sometimes these great players who have won lots in their career have bad nights. Sometimes those who havent won much in their career have great nights.

Varane was poor tonight but our season thus far has been a combination of various factors which itself presents a new discussion.

RVP joined a top team to give them the push needed and then won us the league single handedly, while Caseimro and Varane joined an awful team in rebuilding phase and their best achievements here was winning a League cup and finishing top 4. We also paid ton of money for them, not like they were free like Eriksen.

Pretty bad business.

I’d put money on Varane and Casemiro going to Saudi in January.

His worst performance for us.

But let's not forget he's been our best centre half when fit. He was suddenly frozen out of the team. Left out for "tactical reasons". He's clearly had a falling out with Ten Hag and something has gone on.

It's clear Varane and Ten Hag have had a massive falling out. And tbh I agree with Varane. Who plays Johnny Evans over him in a Manc dirty?

Varane has checked out and is waiting for Saudi. Good luck to him. One of the all-time great defenders. Rolls Royce of defenders

Ten Hag cant handle and manage big players/egos that's clear. Varane is widely respected and doesn't rock the boat.

How? Varane and Casemiro were excellent last season and it's only now that they're showing their age. That said, on the former tonight, age isn't so much of the issue: I saw a player who absolutely, positively didn't want to be there at all. A true 1/10 performance.
Exactly the point the other poster was making

No it's not clear they've had a falling out!!
Why would EtH keep him in the match day squad, that would lead to more issues.
We've seen what happens when people fall out with EtH with Sancho.

For me the reason he is on the bench is fitness, he just simply isn't fit enough to get through a game. Ten Hag would rather start with a back four he trusts. That and he's just not good enough currently as his cameo showed yesterday.

Varane is, in almost every facet, a better footballer than Evans. I can kind of understand, if he's fit, why he'd be pretty pissed to be dropped for a huge match. Our defence was excellent last season, and Varane was just a big part of that as Shaw and Martinez.

I do think ETH is trying to be too clever by stuffing Evans in there, because he thinks fans want to see the United lad play, and it's a nice story.

Hopefully ETH and Varane can sort it out, because a fit Varane is vastly better than any of other CBs, and we should be building around him. We can't just send everyone to Saudi and play slow CBs each week.

Friction between him and Ten Hag according to the Norwegian supporters’ club podcast, but they don’t go into detail.
There needs to be some friction between eth hand and his face, any player who says they don’t want to be considered for selection because their ickle feelings have been hurt can feck right off.

Looks like when Ten Hag wants a player out he falls out with him.

Really odd that I feel safer with Maguire and Evans than with Rafa.

He has passed his best many years ago (2018), and is a complete liability for us as the guy can't play 10 games in a row.

We should hope for an offer this winter, and find a better CB (which I don't think Todibo is)
