Such a stupid take. Peak Martial might actually be the second best post Fergie striker after Zlatan. Martial was good during LVG his period. Did well under circumstances when Mourinho was the manager and did very well for Ole before Martial his body broke down.

Cavani was pretty good when he played but he was injured a lot. Ronaldo had one good season before he couldnt manage it anymore. Rooney was over the top post Fergie just like RVP was. Who else were there? Depay was a left winger, Ighalo wasnt good enough and neither was Weghorst. Lukaku wasnt great for Manchester United although he did have a decent season if i remember correct. Sanchez was a massive failure. Falcao played on one leg during his Premier League time...
Ibrahamovic only had one good season with us, and he scored 17 league goals, to put that into perspective, in his 1 good season he scored 1 more than Lukaku did in his first season and 1 less than Ronaldo in his one good season.

Can you imagine Weghorst doing this?

Apart from his debut goal, has he ever shown anywhere near the level of skill as per the above in competitive matches? I wouldn't count Weghorst in any list, as he was a (embarrassingly shit) short term loan. Martial has undoubtedly ended up being a huge disappointment, despite moments of promise.

I mean he got injured in April and missed 7 league games so I’d imagine he’d have added to his tally.

Our worst forward of the post Fergie era? Was Falcao worse? Was Weghorst worse? Who’s the bottom 3?
This is a crazy take. He’s not fulfilled his promise but at times he’s been our best player which can’t be said for any other striker bar Ibrahimovic!

Yeah, it is crazy to be blessed with feet made of memory foam and velvet and still not produce more good stuff on the pitch, for sure a disappointment.
Still have his first goal engraved in my mind however, will always be thankful for that absolute gem.

Is this a serious question? He produced high level skill weekly in his first season, and several times since then.

Just one example: https://youtube.com/shorts/f4LPu-1SbGQ?si=H8L2aaa6suew_PSJ

And then the very next week, if I remember correctly, he picked up the ball from the halfway line away at Brugges and ran through to score.

The man has lost his way since he did his cruciate about 3 years ago. But the re-writing of history I'm seeing is a bit ridiculous. Even just a few days after his infamous debut goal, he went to St.Mary's, sat Van Dijk down on his arse, and scored. If he left here 3 years ago, he'd be undoubtedly our best forward signing since Fergie. Talking of him as our 'worst', which I'm seeing in here, is laughable.

Martial is by no means our worst striker in recent times. The main issue is that he’s been quite bad for a prolonged period of time now. Most of the others only lasted a season or two before being moved on. Doesn’t help in the fans eyes that he’s on a massive wage as well.

He had the technical and physical abilities to be a top level striker but not the mental attributes. No hunger or fire. Now he’s lost those physical gifts as well after long standing injuries issues. Should have cut our losses when Mourinho wanted rid of him but he’s not comparable to Weghorst.

I for one am truly disappointed this guy doesn't have CR's fitness. He would have been a sight to behold.

Sure but Zlatan added more than just goals. Zlatan just 'had it' and made others better too. Pogba was really good when Zlatan was the striker. Zlatan had some very important goals in the Europa League before he picked up that major injury that ended his Manchester United career. Lukaku was more of a 'flat track bully' and scoring his goals against weaker opponents. I dont really remember any defining Manchester United Lukaku moments. I mostly remember his bad first touch. Ronaldo was good in his return season. Won some games by himself (Spurs game for example) but his arrival didnt improve the team while Zlatan his arrival did.

Cut our losses when Mourinho wanted to get rid of him? Martial had his best seasons after Mourinho. There were no indications at that time that Martial would have become semi perma injured at that point. Had Martial been able to stay fit (or had Ole not played him while injured) and Martial would have kept improving, something he did until the injuries struck, then Martial might have been the starting striker for France now.

He's being sold ffs. Not being put to sleep.

Geez. It's called professional contract vs. performances
Do you read to understand or you just spew out your 1st thought. Clearly my post was addressing those attacking him for being injured. Tye likes of Jones,Bailly ,Martial didn't choose for their bodies to let them down.

Where the grass is greener.
Even when he had his last hot streak (three years ago?), I didn't believe he could keep it up. It's astonishing and damning that he's been able to stay here for as long as he has.

Who, Martial?!

Bloody hell, no wonder people think you're a sock puppet poster at times

Martial had some great seasons here, whereas Weigy scored 1 goal total was it? And Falcao was utterly shot away and could barely stand up.
That's before you get into the likes of Ighalo

His contract expires in the summer so I can't imagine we'll be getting anything for him before then.

One of those where he leaves and you're just happy to get his wages (reportedly £250k a week) off the books.
That's what SHOULD happen.

Could anyone honestly rule out us renewing for 3-4 years to "protect his value?"

I actually held the most grudge against Mourinho for the handling of Martial and Shaw, years after I realize we would have lost feck all bar probably some 50m on replacements (who would have been shit as well) if the club fulfilled his wishes.

If we still have people in charge who think it's a good idea to protect the value of worthless players then we are in dire straits. I'm confident It won't happen

Yes. A year or so ago, maybe this would have happened. But for once, I'm fairly confident, the right decision will be made regarding Martial.

What if he has a brief resurgence and scores a few, once Hojlund has been utterly run into the ground and inevitably spends a fair bit of time out?

Not sure I’d subscribe to the notion that all that held him back from being top class was injuries. It didn’t help, sure, but he was already a deeply flawed player by the time injuries took hold.

Man I was so excited about this guy. He had bad luck with successive manager shifting him about, and then the injuries of course.

It takes a lot to endear me to a sulking type like him but his first season was just electric. Shame.

He screams Saudi league these days.

I think he’s been fairly good but he’s offered next to nothing for years now so I’m intrigued to see where people rank him and if they are rating him based on his first few seasons alone.

I dont believe it's his body. It's his mentality that let him down. So no.

Any other club wont tolerate 8 years of this crap performance. We dont owe him nothing. He's lazy when he's fit yoo

Are you serious? Look up a compilation, and look at what he could do at his best. It's a shame how injuries and his own attitude ruined his talent.
