ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

I can't think of another international sporting event where the host nation are the only team to get to the final without a blemish only to get destroyed in the final.

More than a hint of Spurs about India tbh. They lose a lot of tournaments in crunch moments, despite looking brilliant all the way before that.

Head's performance in that cauldron under that pressure has to be up there with the greatest ever.

Tbf india should be glad they had a leader like Dhoni in 2011

If i remember correctly, it was actually renamed, quite possibly with this final in mind.
Of course. They have to name a stadium after him and have the final there so he can be promoted even for this.

I watched a bit of cricket after ages today. But some things never change - Australia’s winning culture in cricket is different gravy as usual.

I started watching cricket in 2003 and watching us lose to Australia in that WC was heartbreaking to say the least. The fact that this has happened again - 6 more runs than what we could score 20 years ago and another ~200 run partnership from the Aussies to demolish us. I'm lost for words.

The number of times this team has let us down since 2011 is incredible. ALWAYS collapsed when it mattered the most. And this won't be the last.

This is what India get for propping up players like Rahul. Now he's going to be the Indian captain.

The man's a certified wasteman and loser.

Awful world cup really wasn't it. Dull, badly planned and badly played by many teams. No classic game

Good result, though was surprised how comfortable it was in the end. Aussies fielding really helped as well, saved a lot of runs that could have left india with a lot more belief instead of what we got.

Really wouldn't want to be an indian in that stadium right now. Though they should invite the ~10 Aussies in the crowd to join the team for celebrations

Never mind SA, India are the real chokers.

This fecking one eyed coverage is something else.

There are random individual Indians in the crowd looking sad who have had more screen time than the actual winning team since the game was over.

For India to be so cartoonishly dominant all tournament long, barely broken a sweat in any game, and then themselves get absolutely battered in the final in India is very funny. I think we all have to agree about that.
And many Indian fans worried this will happen.

I was worried for the KOs because this is where India chokes. Thought we got over that hurdle after beating our bogey team NZ but they had to play like cowards in the final.

Take that Modi and your bunch of jingoistic fascists...
I wonder if Jay Shah will get it in the neck?

England do ICC tournaments the best. 1/2 should be held here.

We have a huge advantage of having a great mix of Cricket fans represented in the grounds here (yes I know why that may be the case).

It hugely boosts a world event.

Fair play to Australia, this has to go down as a great sporting achievement by them. But overall glad this tournament is finally done. I genuinely can't stand Rugby but their world cup was far better overall.

Felt like an Indian organised ODI invitational. Not a world event.

Having an opening ceremony a few weeks into the tournament before India vs Pakistan instead of before the opening match definitely gave those vibes

All in all, an incredibly boring tournament. India getting hammered in the final is perhaps the only thing to be remembered about it.

Yep. That's why the group stage performance was always a facade for this team. Never really tested, incompetitive teams. Played Australia in the opener who took time to gear up. Had no answers in the final.

Pretty much this. I was hoping we'd get revenge for that Ponting 141, but we lost to a Head 137. This hurts more, because that was arguably the greatest Australian team, and this was possibly the greatest Indian ODI side. Our greats in Kohli and Rohit turned up the whole tournament, even in the knockouts. Still not good enough.

Turns out that much like Ganguly fecking up the toss then, we effectively did the same today. Didn't do our homework.

Rohit let the game slip away after Australia were 3 down. Trying to stop runs and not going for wickets didnt pay off as India didn’t have enough on the board due to brain dead batting. Once they got 140-150, you could see they panicked and it was over then.

Bowling has been poor since Ned game. They just decided to stop doing what made them good at the start of the tournament and going for wickets every ball. Apart from 2-3 overs, not a single over today had any control.

This loss is on captain and the team planning for the game. Completely misread your own conditions and outplayed in every department

I don't think we did a lot wrong today. Just outplayed. Surya was terrible and the decision to bowl Shami w new ball in hindsight may not have been the right call

That apart, the weirdest part about today is the fact that Australia seemed to know the conditions better than us.

We were going to bat if we won the toss

Format has been shite, more knockout games would have helped things. Not a memorable tournament.
