So finally he’s at a club where we can see his talent in full. I reckon he still underwhelms
Depends how he's used. If Xavi is still utilising the same setup then that left winger/ left no.10 role could really suit him.

Fantastic start for him at Barca. Looks like a muuuuch better fit than Chelsea. Good for him.

I said it at the time that he was in wrong systems ever since his move to Atletico.

Second striker behind Lewandowski for a team that plays offensive football is the perfect scenario for him. If he fails now then I’ll eat some crow and jump off the hype train.

I think he is an unbelievable talent and will be great for Barcelona if he stays away from injuries
Smart guy

He is a world class player and at Barca he has found his stage, if we were a properly run club according to our potential then he would probably flourish here too in a team that emphasises an attacking mentality.

Which is why we should have signed him. He was always a good player. Yet skint Barcelona can afford him, but we can't.
He's on loan and dropped a lot of his wages to make it work ... he was desperate to go there. Also, he's a left winger which we just don't need. Also, he played against Antwerp... chill.

I'd have agreed with this if the team was going to be possession orientated which is what many would have assumed from ETHs time at Ajax. The team look so dysfunctional in attacking positions but with the new system I'm not sure how Felix would look with two very advanced 8s occupying similar roles whenever he would drop into play. Would be another example of having three players Mount / Bruno / Felix stifling one another.

While he's faced two opponents who have given him acres of space so far, it is highly impressive how quickly he's adapted to his teammates and how he's already on the same wavelength. Him, Gavi, Lewandowski all look on the same page and I guess it helps he's playing for a team that is very good in attack. United would have made him look rather trash.

I still don't think he'll be a prolific goalscorer, but that won't matter because his general play is excellent. Fill your team with these players and you'll naturally dominate and create chances as a team.

It's two games so far. He has to do it consistently and against top clubs. He always starts strong, let's see how long he can keep it up.

Wish we got him, even if it was another loan.
Much rather that then spend £45M on Cole Palmer.

Wonderkids - younger expensive players who’ve flopped or at least don’t look great up to now in the last few years

Felix
Greenwood
Pogba
Sancho
Antony
Darwin
Dembele
Havertz
Lukaku to us
Renato Sanchez
Malcom
Gravenberch to Bayern
De ligt to Juve was ok at best?
how is nuno mendes getting on?

Successful ones?
FDJ - at least since last season
Musiala
Alvarez
Bellingham
Camavinga
Tchouaméni
Vinicius
Rice looks good
Much less on this column

Jury out : Endrick, Rasmus, Sesko, Enzo, Szobozlai all have it all to prove in their new clubs so far.

Feel free to add any I’ve missed, this is just off the top of my head. We’ve been really unlucky/crap at spotting the best ones! All of these players looked like no brainers at one point. Most were a trap.

Does Rice actually count as a 'young player' anymore though? He turns 25 in less than two months, we're not actually that far off from people starting to worry about how many peak years he still has left.

I think Odegaard who had a 25 page long thread on this forum when he was only 14 belongs on this list.

He could fit in well with our forwards.

Would interesting to see him back in Portugal on loan.

He's only 24. Never scored double digits in a league season since Benfica. Not at top club level, Shouldn't have left Benfica so young.

Money wrecked his development I think. Wrong move, for crazy fee, way too young. Barcelona is the wrong club still.

I had hIm in the yay pile and must have deleted it. I was out walking the dogs when I posted. It does seem like a lot of these guys get hyped to the heavens and then they lose motivation or end up at the wrong club or aren’t as good as predicted in the first place. I assume money and the trappings/pit falls is the major reason. How can you keep someone hungry and in line when they have enough to live on for the rest of their lives by 22? It’s an almost a totally different sport these days. Managers have no real control. People peaking in their early 20s and totally dropping off is crazy!

Is he another Paul Pogba?
I watch every Barcelona game. Felix is incredibly gifted and is playing with effort and intensity this year.

His problem is lack of foot speed. He beats the first defender very often but is usually too far from the goal to make an impact.

He’s been playing as a LW but his ideal role would be a second striker like Thomas Muller.

Barcelona fans would corroborate most of this. He even had a beautiful nutmeg on Rudiger but then Carvajal obliterated him with speed + power.

Good player, people assumed because of his age he would one day be a great player. Happens again and again, there is nothing to say he didn't reach his highest level at 19 and that a good career for him would be maintaining that for a good portion of his career.

Wirtz anyone?
He looks phenomenal. Way out of our reach though.

Felix is a fairweather player. Looks all nice and technical but then falls apart at making an actual impact. He should have been a central midfielder or something as a youth player as attackers have to impact results.

Darwin was never a wonder kid, nor is he in the flop pile.
