I think he was decent again tonight. Pair him with Mainoo

Very good tonight.

I honestly feel the criticism of him is now just an extension of the mood created by a team performing poorly, but not accurately reflecting on the individual.

He read the game well today, made a lot of recoveries and tackles and interceptions. He had 95% passing and constantly kept the ball moving. He almost never gave the ball away, was very press resistant, so much so that in the second half Bayern basically gave up pressing him and focused on other players.

He’s obviously a bit slow and got ghosted couple of times by Sane and Musiala, but was clever with his tactical fouls and always busted a gut to get back too.

He's at least a proper defensive midfielder unlike McFred who can do a job there now and then. Tad slow but intelligent enough

100% tackles won.... but he got booked for mistiming his movement and deliberately tripping a player up from behind because he couldn't catch up.
Good catch.

He was very good today, this performance is close to his ceiling IMO as he has very obvious physical limitations (is quite slow). As a backup midfielder he looks ok.

Yeah, he's not the fastest, but overall he was decent. He's progressively gotten better, but overall still lacking too much to be considered a serious option as a potential signing.

He may improve more as the season goes on, but he's definitely growing into that role. Would like to see him paired with Mainoo in there for a few games to see how they get on together. This McTominay starting in a hybrid 10 role or whatever it is, has to stop.

You and 99% of United fans. ETH doesn't seem fancy it though...

I've seen enough of Amrabat to be convinced that you'll see a pretty good player if he's ever not the only midfielder in our side.

Which was the sort of clever foul City midfielders get away with all the time. Killing off a very dangerous counter at source. If anything that moment was a positive.

Yeah it was definetley tactical, it was a dangerous break and needed stopping.

He played well last night, he protected the back four well won the ball in midfield numerous times, used the ball reasonably well. Kept it ticking over for us. Shame the attack is as blunt as butter knife at the moment because she has actually been quite good in recent games for us.

So he should. A player like him should be no where near a European tie for a club like Man United. Soak it in. Standards are so low, might as well enjoy it.

Puts in a shift, I'd say he's a level or two below what we should be aiming for, but we've been crap for so long that I'd take it over the depressing performances we've seen from more heralded midfielders at the club for the last decade.

He is decent player, but he is not holding midfielder at all for me, at least not in one man midfield anyway. He is small, very slow, pretty average range of passing, but he runs a lot and can make some decent short passes, and can carry ball at decent quality. I would say pretty identical player to Fred so it's quite amazing that we sold Fred and brought him instead, what was the point? Box to box midfielder for me if I ever saw one, I have no idea why people insisted he is a deep lying midfielder when we wanted him.

Another midfielder our manager brought to play different position to the one he played before, if I remember well he was always paired with another midfielder in holding midfielder role. And another proof he knows feck all about football.

When you say he is a "decent player" and "identical to Fred" is that really a compliment ?
He's certainly no Roy Keane, or Nicky Butt for that matter.
He only came to United as a stop gap last minute loan because United couldn't or wouldn't buy whoever it was EtH wanted as Fred's replacement. Because of this it's also clear that EtH doesn't see Mainoo (Or Hannibal) ready to fully step into that role.

Really poor today against Liverpool. Showed his limitations. 57% passing, when he had 95% in the previous too games. He was running through mud and everyone on the pitch seemed a couple of gears faster than him.

Playing with 2 CMs though provided with more cover and the team didn't get butchered. But he needs to do way more if he is to be part of future plans.

Proper trier, keeps going but physically he is not cut out for the pace of the game in the PL, just doesn't turn or play quickly enough, in a slower league he can be very good.

Think he is very fortunate to be playing Premier League football, let alone for a side that is playing/fighting for European football.

Good performance in terms of work rate but he is hilariously poor in every department. Makes Sabitzer look great, needs to be binned as soon as we have the bodies back to do so.

Shocking on the ball, just really really bad

And yet, we looked far more solid with two holding midfielders. Defensively he does pretty well in taking up the right positions.

He's actually an awful player. Marginally better second half but he's not good enough. Thank God we only loaned him.

One of the worst performances I have seen from a United midfielder in a while. I'd love to see some stats on possession lost and past completion - they must be dreadful. And on top of that he just looks so awkward moving around. He is also easy to run past.

Not much more than a body in midfield.

Thank feck we were so skint we could only afford a loan. He’s absolutely awful. Makes Fred look like Roy Keane in comparison.

Another ETH masterclass.

Sabitzer had pedigree (if you can call it that) at a top club, so I expected him to be better than he was. With Amrabat I can’t see why people expected him to be special, just look at the clubs he has played for in the last decade, he’s simply not a top echelon player.

So... He did make a couple of decent defensive contributions. A couple. He was also bypassed and looked lost far more often. On the ball he was like having another CB on the pitch. He actually had 57% pass accuracy - from our midfielder who tried the least attacking passes. Absolutely criminal. I think the posters suggesting he'd bring composure and being "press resistant" in the summer are lucky they arent banned. Phil Jones made for a better DM

He is absolutely awful on the ball and chases around. Don’t think he actually positions himself all that well. Someone like last year’s Casemiro next to Mainoo would be perfect for us now.

Him and McTominay lack so many fundamentals you want in good central midfielders. It’s staggering how this is our first choice midfield right now
