The Glazers and their cronies being removed from the football operations side of the club, makes me happy. As demonstrated this past decade, they’ve been laughably bad

It's all a bit low key isn't it?

I mean, you'd expect a bit more than a 1 page statement released at 4pm on Xmas eve for such a big announcement.

Shame it took this long to get done as half a season has been wasted but it's finally happening and Jim and his team can start working on fixing this broken club.

The Glazers do not want to sell so what do you do
Ratcliffe doesn’t have to invest. If your bud is in the best interests of the club & with the Glazers either needing to sell or hedge fund.

For me it’s a matter of principle. If you’re willing to get into bed with/fund the Glazers reign then I struggle to hold out much hope for the long term.

If the Glazers didn’t want to sell he could have walked away, instead he played their game & gets to play an expensive game of Football Manager but what are the long term benifits for the club & it’s infrastructure.

I could care less who’s name is above the door so long as Manchester United are put first, had you told me those many months ago when the news of investment broke that we’d eventually get a billionaire to fund a longer Glazer stay with , let’s be honest, rather pathetic investment given what the club needs I would have called it crap. That’s not going to change currently.

Hope it all goes well of course but the talk of full ownership being in the statement etc.

We're not becoming a state sponsored sports washing project and the Glazers have lost some control. That's a win for now.
That’s a red herring argument. Discuss this deal on its merits. The fact many are basing this being a good deal against a deal no one really knows actually existed speaks volumes.

Posing this as Qatar or this is wilfully ignoring there are far more than 2 options.

If everything Jim plans to do with this kind of quickness and intensity, we’d get relegated by the time he buys a new coffee machine for the restaurant at Old Trafford.

Good.

Now please bring some good football people as director of football and technical directors, and remove Murtough as soon as possible.

Let’s hope something changes for good.

Precisely. They've gotten a cash injection to allow them to retain control of the club and a figure-head in Ratcliffe who'll also serve as a shield for on-field performances.

No debt is being wiped out and $300m is a drop in the bucket when you look at big infrastructural changes which are required both for the stadium as well as academy.
That’s perhaps the most insulting part of the lot given SjR has paid over a billion for shares.

Could just be that the past decade has worn me down completely, but I find it hard to get excited about this.

Still, what else is there to be excited about as a United fan? In Jim we trust, I suppose.

Finally! I understand the disappointment of the Glazers not being gone, but this is a very positive day for the club in my opinion. And we haven't had too many of those recently. Finally some actual investment into Old Trafford and with a new group in control of sporting operations we may actually implement the changes that we so badly need.

Don’t think so. Why do you think that?
The Athletic are reporting that Ratcliffe (who owns 60% of INEOS) will be joined by the INEOS Sporting Director in forming two thirds of a three person board in charge of our football operations. They are also reporting that the current INEOS Sport CEO is expected to be appointed our CEO. Both Brailsford and Blanc will also reportedly be joining the board.

Assuming that occurs, it would seem pretty absurd not to take that as INEOS being inextricably tied to the investment, whatever the mechanism used for purchase.

How so?

I appreciate your optimism - but a 25% investment is absolutely pointless and means absolutely nothing in the scheme of things.

Shit with a little sugar on top is, well. . . still shit.

So long as the Glazers are anywhere near our club, nothing will change. In fact, we may even be worse off with SJR.

It’s actually frighting how most on here don’t realise the club is all but dead and this was the final nail in the coffin.

The money will be going to the Glazer family and the class A shareholders.

Crucially there is no mention of enforcing the Glazers to pay off the debt with the monies received (this should have been an absolute non negotiable item). There is also no mention about future share purchases, again an area which should have been non negotiable.

SJR has just allowed the Glazers to stay, they could not have stayed without this investment.

We are now in a far worst position that before. Merry Christmas

Good news and let's hope we can look back at this as a turning point for the club.

No path to full ownership and there never will be, unless Jim somehow outlives Avram and Joel despite being 20 years older.

What a surprise. So actually this is just what we all knew, Ratcliffe propping up the Glazers.

I'd back this deal as long as there is a clear path of ineos buying the whole thing in a realistic time period (ie 3 years)
