Why are we going to waste money on loan transfer and wages for woeful strikers when we can just stick mctominay up front who may actually surprise us and it will get him away from playing in midfield

“Their issues?”

Always thought you were a Man Utd fan Maz?
I am, yeah. I didn't realise that I put "they" in there, but I tend to use "they" and "us" interchangably in general with both my local club and United.

Why on earth are we even considering triggering Martials :(
Maybe they're discussing triggering the extension but on substantially reduced terms (still not a good idea I would suggest) or maybe they're talking to him about terminating his contract early (better idea).

"Talking with Martial" hopefully means telling him his contract won't be extended and he should find a new club

Sigh. He's been jogging around doing nothing for over 2 years. Imagine the quality of the performances we get once it's 100% confirmed that we are not renewing and he sees that noone will offer him more than 60k/week

The only talk they should be having with Martial is asking him if he needs any help moving

Wasn't he the waste of space on the FDJ saga? Kept on having special broadcasts with his alledged ITK brand of BS
I wasn't aware of any involvement from him in the FDJ saga. You might be confusing him with Gerard Romero, who's typically very reliable but also someone who teases and lures in people to his broadcasts.

Martial saga is the aabsolute epitome of the excuses at Utd that show how awful we have been. For him to steal a living for 9 yrs based off a handful of 'performances' where he wouldve done well to survive 3 yrs at most other clubs is telling.

Martial should be finished at the club, it will be pathetic if he gets a new contract.

The only way I’d take Werner is if it meant we let Martial go in January .
An alternative option would be to look for a striker who can actually score goals.
He couldn't hit a barn door while he was here with Chelsea and hasn't since been impressive for Leipzig in, arguably, the most open league in Europe for attackers.
But he's going to fix some of our offensive issues?
What is it with this club.
It would be a truly baffling decision. Maybe we are developing a new style of football in which goal scoring is looked down upon.

Didn't the big hitter journalists confirm Martial wasn't getting a contract extension only before Christmas. Why are people worried about some rumours.

EDIT: Just checked, in December Ornstein reported that United would not be exercising the option to extend Martial's contract.

They're interpreting the "having talks" as a desire for United to keep Martial around for longer. No matter what, those who don't want Martial here want him gone at all costs. Personally, I don't Martial sticking around with a much lower salary as the rebuild won't necessarily be instantaneous with the FFP restrictions.

"Having talks" is more likely the club telling Martial he will not be getting a new contract in my opinion.

That's plausible as well. I'm most likely used to the American interpretation, which is when the teams continue to talk with a player who's just become a free agent to negotiate a new contract with them.

When FFP is such a constraint, to get a dosser like Martial on £250k a week off the books is an absolute gimme.

The damage having someone like Martial around training does is incalculable.
