He got put through the Chelsea striker meat grinder and never been the same since. At least he got a CL medal I guess.

Great work rate if not offside and end product...

Rumours were Tuchel was banging his girlfriend but that's probably bs...
 What?!?!?!?

I can see this one happening. Not saying I want it to necessarily, but I can see it.

It's honestly a hard one, a new striker is an absolute must in Jan. Martial is just a waste of space and Rashford has his little sulk if asked to play as 9. So it's Hojlund and no one else at the moment. God, even Sancho could do the false 9 thing he did in pre-season if he wasn't too busy trying to pick all his toys up and put them back in the pram.
I'd love to say give a kid a chance but there's no one. Hugill is there and scoring regular for U21's but he seems miles off being ready for the 1st team, if he ever will be.
We don't have the money to go and buy someone so needs to be another loan. And the quality of forwards available in Jan on loan is pretty scarce.

It's looking like Werner or no one really.

We cannot possibly do this . Its just the Groundhog Day cycle.

If we do it speaks volumes about SJR and his mates

It would be the same old stupidity one more time.

I mention Hojlund already, the addition of Mount and Antony doesn’t scream goals either?

Not sure you really understood my original point.
No he’s been given the money and the players he asked for
So I don’t think he has anyone but himself to blame

Given his stake in the club won't be ratified and we can't spend his money, I doubt it will speak any volumes with regards to SJR

Eh, it's better than Choupo, kneeless Martial or ancient Benzema I suppose.

I've come to accept that we are financially fecked until the summer at least. He'd be a vaguely qualified option to rotate with Hojlund up top, and seemed a nice fella who took great pride in never damaging the beautifully put up opposition nets when at Chelsea.

Would have to be a buy since you cannot loan Choupo. His contract ends in summer.
Surely we could technically loan him until the end of the season, with a loan fee and our covering his wages, especially if he's potentially leaving on a free in the summer (as he's 34).

Not saying Bayern would want to do that, but it is possible

No. It is against the rules in Germany. You would have to buy him.

Is Ighalo still playing?
He is and, whatever the papers say, I'm convinced that John Murtough's main reason for flying to Saudi Arabia was not to establish relationships with potential buyers out there, but to bring Odion Ighalo back home where he belongs.

I mean everyone knows the Saudi transfer boom happened half a year ago, so you'd have to be some kind of useless Moyes-enlisted idiot to be going out there to drum up interest in unwanted players now.

Watched a few of his YouTube highlights to try to feel better about this potential signing, but I noticed that pretty much all of his goals come via a pass or cross from a teammate... Which he won't get here.

what goals don't come from a pass or cross?

I suppose sometimes the goalscorer intercepts the opposition and tugs it away, but...

Because it’s your club that’s the issue, not necessarily the players ..
Well considering this is about Werner no, he's done nothing since he left Chelsea either.
The fact you watched Werner and come to the conclusion its Chelsea fault when hes an awful footballer is baffling.
Its no surprise that the team he scored most goals agasint in the PL was Southampton under Ralph, the team who were really open and played a high line with loads of space.

Yes, but his first point was that Werner did nothing after leaving Chelsea. And that's true, he has played and scored the least out of the four strikers in Leipzig's squad. At least per minute he scored more than Poulsen.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say this will be a success if it happens. Ive said this about werner before, I wanted us to take a punt after chelsea - I just feel he'd do well here, always have thought so. No rationale or reasoning behind it, just a gut feeling. As a loan it makes perfect sense, I cant see why people would object especially considering real transfer business will probably wait until summer. As bad as he was, in each of his last 6 seasons including 2 with chelsea, hes scored 10+, which doesnt seem like a tough target for a striker, but look at how ours are performing. Gets about 1 in 2 for germany, good age, good injury record and has played PL before.

Playing at Chelsea is enough to do that to anyone though. Saps the life out of the strongest of players.

Ah - thanks for correcting me, and interesting rule. Can't see the point in buying him at the moment (with ETH's future in doubt and INEOS about to take control of footballing affairs) to be honest, unless it was a cheap deal and a short contract

These loan deals that we keep making are meme worthy honestly. They're adding nothing to our team and in some cases making us worse (Weghorst last season).

We have one striker right now, and he's a sicknote with one PL goal to his name. Martial has played himself out of contention and Rashford we know cannot lead the line.

This is simply about having another option up front. During this transfer window, we are not realistically going to get a world class goalscorer unless it's a Cavani/Ronaldo type option in the limelight of their career.

I don't really understand the opposition to this deal; what can we realistically expect at this stage in the season with us being out of the CL and miles off the top four.

In the summer, we'll hopefully see some movement for a top centre forward. For now, this is a common sense deal that bolsters the squad.

There's a lot in between world class and being allergic to putting the ball into the net. Which was the case with Weghorst, and what I've seen from Werner at Chelsea.

If we sign this guy it just shows how completely and utterly fecking incompetent the people who make decisions are at our club, and I include the board all the way down to the manager.

Werner isn't good enough to play as lone striker for any club in a top division.....this transfer rumour can't be true (unless Ten Hag makes a system change).

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
All jokes aside, he'd improve your matchday squad at the moment. I'd have him over Rashford on the right (at the moment, I am a fan of Rashford but he needs a break).

Indeed. My point is that this doesn't remotely fix our goalscoring problem.

You know it’s bad when as a United fan you’re not put off by this transfer because he surely can’t be worse than what we’ve got

People keep saying stuff like this but what on earth do you expect? We need a striker and can only do loans because off FFP. Who exactly should they bring in?
