All well and good, but he needs something more than that, people who view Trump as a threat to democracy are already not voting for Trump, and most will vote democrats anyway.

and a scary prospect is that a bunch of ill-informed "independents" start associating authoritarianism/fascism as the credible alternative. I think the "threat to democracy" stuff has a crucial role to play in Biden's campaign, but agree it can't be the only thing. The media's desire for "balance" will simply normalise the language of authoritarianism/fascism in the election race and if your only message (from biden) is "threat to democracy" the people that want more will simply role the dice on authoritarianism/fascism not hurting them.

With all the brilliant minds that exist in a country of almost 332M people that is the home of the most technologically advanced companies in the world, the best you can get as presidential candidates is Biden and Trump. As misery loves company, you also have to deal with state politicians and judges who seems to have a mission to bring USA back to the Dark Ages cultural mindset.

I'm amazed how one of the southern states has not tried a secession yet.

Only a matter of time, especially if black voters’ districts keep getting gerrymandered to feck…

Oh, I thought they would only bluff about it. I guess they will really try it if Trump fails to win next elections.

If they really try to secede what happens? Does the other states democratically have to accept it? My guess there is probably some laws that create heavy obstacles for something like this to happen, but as we've seen lately, laws can be conveniently changed if you have the judges in your back-pocket.

You might want to re-take your history lessons

I know they did it in Civil War, but I was referring to the actual moment. The conditions for that perfect storm seems more favorable for their cause than ever.
Won't happen, when all is said and done they know they can't afford it

The reddest states also tend to be the poorest and the ones most dependent on federal money, which is mostly generated in blue states, without it they'd be even more poorer

They would also likely be excluded from the only part of the federal government that they actually like - the military.

On top of the good reasons other people gave, another reason is simply that it would mean civil war again, for sure. With the federal government eventually, but probably more immediately within the states themselves.

They pretty much established the last time around that it's illegal to secede from the US. I guess there could exist a political environment where it's not viewed like that, but that's not the one Americans are living in now (or will for the foreseeable future).

A pretty radical clause if you bare in mind what the USA was trying to achieve back in the days before the civil wars :D

It's difficult to move on from the current political and social situation, I guess. The political system is so discredited due to day-to-day news of tax-paying money being robbed that it already became something banal and people will elect anyone who won't look like a "classical" politician nowadays.

Not only excluded from serving, but the bases/contracts/contractors (and the economic boost they provide) would be pulled. For instance, the US Military accounts for 11% of all employment in NC and 13% of Gross State Product. It will never happen, at least not in a peaceful "we're breaking up" way.
Does that number also include state guard members?

That aside, I believe the branches would allow all state guard members a one-time election to join another state guard, or join a reserve component (all federal), or apply for regular service and be assigned to wherever needed. A state governor could mobilize the guard under some statute (probably) and I presume a member could be a conscientious objector to secession but would probably need to relocate out of state to avoid state prosecution/separation. Granted, if a member was separated (which isn't overnight), he/she would likely be immediately reenlisted/commissioned to a federal component. Conversely, there might be some ignorant folks that leap to join the seceding state guard and I figure the branches would allow them to do such, it would help thin the ranks of bad actors and sympathizers.

And no separated state could afford to protect its own borders without federal funding. This would likely lead to a war as the US would not want to help that state fight off a potential invader but also would not want say China right on the border.

Tbf 69% of Democrats think Biden is a person of faith even though his pro Israel genocide policy is against the Pope views(Which kind of matters for a catholic).

Plus evangelical christianity is about having a personal god in your head who justifies every awful decision you make. So in that sense Trump is very much a person of faith.

Mormon isn’t a religion but a sales pitch.

Fair point, i suppose, and Biden should absolutely not support the scumbag administration in Israel, but its still not on the same level, personal beliefs and politics don't always match though.

With Trump, however, its so blatantly obvious he isn't religious, its mind-boogling that so many can actually believe that, but then, evangelicals don't like hearing the actual words of Jesus either, they think its too "liberal" now, so yeah...

This person votes & encourages others to do the same…

Its always the same with these people, the one thing Trump did right(vaccines) is the the one thing they dislike about him.

Is the point of modern-day conservatism to be wrong about everything on purpose?

Yes. But not on purpose. Their stupidity knows no bounds.

I read a lot about slavery in elementary/middle/high school (including it being THE cause for secession)

All I discussed with my friends back then was Pokemon cards, WWF (as it was fondly back then) and Allan Houston/Latrell Spreewell on the Knicks

When someone's defense of the racist **** they just said is "I have a black friend or a black neighbor" you may as well go ahead and call that a wrap on that particular racist.
