#54 "Nothing New" ft. Phoebe Bridgers (From The Vault) (2021)

Lord, what will become of me
Once I've lost my novelty?

I've had too much to drink tonight
But I wonder if they'll miss me once they drive me out?

Taylor talks about her own insecurities and also how the industry bins off female starts the moment they're bored and want something shinier.

I know someday I'm gonna meet her, it's a fever dream
The kind of radiance you only have at 17
She'll know the way, and then she'll say she got the map from me
I'll say I'm happy for her, then I'll cry myself to sleep

She wrote this song in 2012 but it wasn't released until a decade later. Some say she tweaked the bridge to address the latest pop sensation, dubbed the new Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo. Or it could be a cool coincidence. Either way, this reflects her thoughts in her early 20s, expressing her fears of becoming irrelevant one day.

Samid has competition.

Die-hard swiftie my arse. He's a die-hard "identifying random niche stuff in 60 seconds" nutter.

This is Bilal’s third Guinness World Records title – he achieved his first in 2021 for the most animals identified from animal sounds in one minute (23), and last year he broke the record for the most Justin Bieber songs identified from their lyrics in one minute (29), surpassing the previous record by seven. “This record is my favourite of all of them,” Bilal said. “Being called a ‘Certified Swiftie’ or ‘Officially Amazing Swiftie’ is such an incredible feeling.”

I think you need to make a video to show who's the boss Swiftie.

I like a couple of her songs and definitely respect her as an artist but this hate she‘s getting from fragile male egos and Trump supporters makes me root for her.
And with that I didn’t mean anyone in this thread but in general. The fact alone that she is getting people to register to vote is fantastic. And also: hello USA. Why do you event have to register to vote? What a messed up system.

Kelce will propose to her while she holds the Superbowl aloft.

1/3 of the population will "YAS KWEEN!"

1/3 will shit themselves with rage.

The other 1/3 won't give a toss.

„Great“ is an opinion. She writes and plays her own songs and, if i am not mistaken, co-produces them. Those facts alone elevate her above a lot of the other pop musicians.

Why do they hate her? I think I'm quite a snob when it comes to music, but I have no reason to hate her. She's so much better than the usual shite that that demographic listen to?
The combination of her insane popularity with her banal music is kind of annoying, no?

I do agree that hate is probably too strong a word. I don’t actually think her music is capable of conjuring up any kind of powerful emotion anyway, positive or negative. It’s all very inoffensive and forgettable. The duet with Bon Iver was alright, I guess.

Anyway, to be honest, I do find this thread fascinating. So that’s another Taylor Swift upside. Almost makes up for the whole NFL boyfriend cringefest. Although he’s surely a nicer bloke than that Scottish house DJ she dated for a while. Now that dude knew how to make hateful tunes.

I have no idea either, yet.

I think the banality resonates with early teens, their world is challenging enough on a hormonal level. The lip service she pays to emotion fits perfectly?

She's not Beethoven or Joy Division, so judging her by the same metrics is unfair?

Any adults who like her are to be laughed at on one level, but these people need theoir David Grays or Coldplays. For me they are like folk who can't miss Corrie but haven't the bandwidth for The Godfather. They are just not the same thing, yet more minutes have benn racked up watching Corrie. Popularity is not a universal equation to quality. All that said, she was by a long way the best thing my gilrs listened to at 13.
