PL L FA Premier League

Newcastle United 4:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sun, 13 April 2025

First half: decent until their goal, then 10 minutes of being dominated and could've conceded 2nd goal, then 10 minutes of being decent again and scoring in that period. Against a better, in-form team you can't have many complaints about that half.

Second half: lively start and potential penalty on Dalot (was there enough for a penalty is a question). Then we concede as Livramento runs past Dalot like he's not there. Third goal Mazraoui slips. There were 5-6 slips in this game and every time it was United players, not once Newcastle players. Final goal obviously Bayindir gifting it to them. So 4 goals conceded, 2 were our players fecking up and another is Dalot fecking up in that he let Livramento run past him so, so easily. First goal is letting Isak too much space but it's not an error.

Deserved win for Newcastle but at the same time it was self-destruction from our players in 2nd half. Guess we struggled with their intensity (that was always to happen) and I get that but couple of those goals were just unforced mistakes for me.

Good performance from Amass. Zirkzee perhaps looked the best and then of course he gets injured.

4-1 defeat will always look bad but even with that self-destruction in 2nd half it was still a better performance at Newcastle than last two times when we somehow only lost 2-0 and 1-0.

This team and Club are not fit to be playing football in the Premier League. Most of the team need replacing and Ratcliffe can sod off and take the Glazers with him, along with Amorim.
We will not be in any position to play in European games next season, with a bit of luck Bruno will jack it in so he can go elsewhere and actually win something. We need 5 years minimum with a proper manager to get Utd back to a reasonable place but it won’t happen under present ownership.

We had a very good 20-minute spell. Then we reverted to panic-ball. We cannot play out from the back with the current personal, not just those today but all of our first team players.

Amass getting a full debut was about the only pleasure to be had. Oh, there was that one interchange with Bruno and Zirkzee that made us look like a completely different team that knows how to play 1-2s.

Expected to lose, we lost. Not really bothered by any of it today. Shame Bayindir looked like a deer in the headlights, as I was hoping to be shot of Onana, but Onana is starting against Lyon guaranteed.

Yoro, Mainoo, Amass, Angel, maybe Garnacho, Mount if he stays injury-free = the building blocks of a good team in 3 years. Expecting some players like Højlund to come good is like trying to make "fetch" happen. (It's not going to happen.) Other than those listed, sell them all, no reasonable offer refused.

We just can't identify and sign players who are any better. Dorgu was supposed to excel at this magical unicorn position favored by Amorim, and he's basically Daloting it out there. The hopeful punt on Højlund is money wasted. Buying Onana and Mount when in less than a year they'd both been free is money wasted.

Not an unexpected result but disappointing in the context of the first half performance being decent. Win Thursday and it worn be remembered however.

Massive shame for Zirkzee though and I hope that's not his season over. We're already lacking attacking options, even though I know he's not exactly prolific.

Unfortunately, Newcastle are on their way to being title challengers in a year or two while we look like we are going backwards

We would have all wanted Utd to win this one, or at least get a draw, but you’d have to mad to have expected anything but a Newcastle victory.

We’re relying on teenagers in defence and a couple of 20 year olds, with a couple of slow aging players who are expected to be offloaded in a couple of months time.
The state of the squad is terrible.

We’ve been a physically weak team for several seasons.
It was obvious the Ole days and it’s never been addressed since.
Only got worst.

Who’s Angel?!

If Newcastle finish 5th and we win Europa, will it kick them into Europa?

Would be so sweet if so.

They deserved the win but they are right flukey fkrs. Their first was class, but the second lucky it went to their player and the next 2 we gave them on a plate

Horrible defense. Dalot, Lindelof, Mazraoui, Amass, Bayindir-all gifting goals. You just can't account for that and I think Amorim gave up on that game after 3-1 as Eriksen lasted the full 90 and Bruno was subbed. My biggest disappointment is the Zirkzee injury, he is the only player who can hold the ball and will be a huge miss against Lyon.

I've got to say, this place can be amazingly hysterical. Pre-match thread everyone thought we'd lose because we put out a subpar team. Now that we have, the sky is falling. Do people still not realize how weak this team actually is? We're outmatched against every PL side in terms of athleticism, let alone one built specifically for it like Newcastle.

On Thursday though, no excuses. We have to get past Lyon.
Dalot, Lindelof, Mazraoui, Amass, Bayindir-all gifting goals - did I miss a goal somewhere?

Erickson and Lindelof should not be at the club. Erickson has stayed a season to long, he just can't keep up with things, worryingly, outside of Bruno hes really the only reliable progressive passer in the squad.

Lindelof has been here at least 2 seasons too many, and probably 3. Also, I doubt if you scoured the world, you would be hard pressed to find a defender less suitable to play the way the manger wants than he is.

Nice for harry to get some minutes, building for the future is pretty much the only light at the moment, but this game went as I expected.

We are one of the least physical teams in the league, and newcastle have all the physicality in the world.

I am depressed to watch this team for more then 2 years now. This ain’t getting better, is it ?
Even when we are playing well, it’s so boring.

People want us to win the Europa, I want it too.
But we will be ridiculous, a laughing stock in the CL.
Buying few cheap and young players won’t change anything.

It’s sad to see so many folk saying it was expected, but that’s the fact of the matter. I actually go into most games these days expecting a defeat. It’s a disgraceful situation for a club like United.

Newcastle are just a couple of players short of having a full set of strength and quality in depth.
Big, physically strong, players with agility and pace in every position.
Another top striker and another attacking midfielder and they will be challenging for the title any regulars in the CL.

It was an awful time to play a team like Newcastle - one team going for top 4 and the other with nothing to play for in the PL preoccupied with a Europa League QF in a few days time. In that context it was always likely to end up like this. Slips, mistakes, Newcastle very clinical. Bring on Thursday.

We looked good until 2-1 which was a well worked goal, then added two more absolute presents to them. Not too bothered, we managed to rotate heavily. Bring on Thursday.

Lyon plays Auxerre in an hour, 4 changes in their line up, no idea if it's resting players but possible.

Also had no midweek game and has a settled team. They were also fired up as they want CL football.

Lindelof is at fault for multiple goals. Not getting close to Isak/Barnes. Dalot and Amass fecked up for the second goal. Mazraoui and Bayindir are self explanatory. Point is, the defense had too many individual errors. Even if one of them fecks up, the others should do their jobs properly. They didn't in the second half.

Physically outmatched by a team bigger, stronger, and faster than us who also didn't have European football midweek. To quite Patty Evra, it was men against babies.

This won't register or matter but here is my take:

Too much trying to play out from the back. Too much trying to pass it out. I lost count of the time on pass 4-5 we lost possession only 40 or so yards from goal. Why bother pissing about with it at the back? We would be better trying to launch it out first time and compete for ball or second ball in their half. Certainly less threat to our goal? What do I know anyway.

This fanbase man, what an utter embarrassment of a post.

Most obvious result of the season, wouldn’t read into it - onto Thursday

Garnacho was giving them problems on the break. I suppose he was hooked to save him from Lyon but it was pretty even until their second. Zirkzee's loss is a blow we could have done without. Amass did well considering, but his inexperience showed when dealing with the dark arts. Onana back for Lyon or do we stick with Altay?

The club needs to make a decision on how we want to play and stick to that. If it's the way Ruben wants to play keep him and back him with transfers that help that style of play.
If he's still shit then get someone else who plays the way we want. The main reason we're skint is because we keep starting from scratch every 2 or 3 years with another rebuild while keeping the shite like Lindelof that nobody wants, just pay him off ffs.
Hopefully getting rid of all the shite and overpaid players will be a new start but we have to stick to a long term plan.

Lindelof shouldn't play another game for United. Can't wait for him to not be in the squad after this season.

The only positive is we've cleared space in the squad to sign more players if we can afford to in the summer.

Theres not many definitive starting calibre players but we have to add to that pile this summer. Signing squad players will lead to more of the same. We have to raise the ceiling of our starting lineup.

What I don’t get is assuming we all accept he rested players to an extent and so I doubt he really thought we’d get anything - just play bloody 433 counter and there’s much more of a chance of nicking a point.

Sounds like the Bruno post-match interview was quite spicy, Sky hyping it up. Will be on shortly.

A point for what though?

Imagine he does that and gets a result, then what? He's already said he's not for changing & while i don't agree with the inflexibility there's no way hes risking that. The clamour to do it regularly would do for him.

United women’s team have done this!
Women’s football shit, in fact it’s even worse than shit, I’d rather apply chilli powder to my nuts than watch a single second of it… so yeah, after todays shit show I’m hoping Rory don’t crumble to DeShambles mind games and hoping at least one UTD fan is happy later on this evening
