Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Honestly it's important not to get emotional as that is one of the things that has set us back this past decade. We can get emotional and celebrate when we actually win this trophy.

The emotional moments of happiness in the past decade are the only things that have made it worthwhile.

Being overcome and delighted after a match like that is not an issue in any remote way but it's also unavoidable for most.

I fecking modern fan culture. Telling supporters not to get emotional after an incredible comeback like that at home in Europe. This club is magical. You don't get it. Bore off.
Agree. Football is feelings, fecking enjoy it when it's fun.

How the feck can you not love football man.

Just for sheer drama and entertainment value, I think that is the best match I have ever seen.

Without even looking, can I assume the manager was denigrated for making this sub?

Yes. Luke Shaw was poor which was Amorim's fault and he should have brought another midfielder on instead at half time. Despite us being tactically superior all over the part in the first half.

I'm still not convinced. The Chosen One (Moyez) is doing better at Everton on a much lower budget. Amorim is not the answer at this time - the club is riddled
Have some patience, he hasnt even had a single pre-season with the squad yet.

Tonight was magical, reminded me of the good old days put a smile to my face and made my heart beat like a kid! But, having said that I still dont think Amorim is good enough and I don't like his formation at all. It was a 10 man Lyon. That Cherki winger, the 21 year old what a fantastic player, where would he play in our system? wing back? I just wish we played a formation with proper attacking wingers like most teams.

Was probably my favorite game I’ve watched of ours entertainment wise since… I’m not sure? Maybe Leeds opening day in 22/23?

Liverpool last season had a similar feel to it but that was a close game where momentum kept swinging every 5 minutes. This one we were properly dead and buried.

We won because he actually went away from playing this 3/5 at the back nonsense and stuck Maguire up front I mean that's hardly ground breaking yet stuff more like Alardyce ball, fair play to him for doing it but trying to take anything other than we got lucky away from this one is silly
He still played a back 3 throughout. Dalot switched to RCB in the second half of ET.

You can't blame him for taking the opportunity, he even asked to wait until the end of the season, it was our management that insisted it happen mid season

I don't, it was his decision no one forced him.

But I also don't blame the club for not spunking £100-200m in January either when we can't afford it.

how far did they go in the Europa league? what have they win in Premier League? How much has Moyes vs. Amorim spent? Just think for once.

We should have went for it (like we did at the end) at 2-2 in the first half of ET. But we got there in the end, clusterfeck of a performance but an amazing match. Delighted we're through.

it's just pathetic now. How about you give him one summer of preparations and signing 5 of his players and not to play dross which is available + countless injuries. We have poayed well against CIteh, Liverpool too. Not sure why are people so quick to make judgements about a manager who is clearly playing with one of the worst squads in our history.

Indeed, a lot of pathetic people in this thread. They practically live here moaning and hoping bad things happen to the club and manager so they can say "I told you so". Hopefully, once Amorim gets some reinforcements in the summer and we start winning next season they'll just disappear into oblivion.

Tonight was magical but if he doesn’t have a plan b or plan c then he wouldn’t succeed next season as premiership managers and teams will find him out.
His team and formations are too predictable and every team knows how to prepare and play against that system.

He used a plan B and won the game with 3 goals in 6 minutes.

I seriously wonder why sotme people in here watch football, it's supposed to be entertainment and if you didn't find that game enteraining then you need to find something else to watch
Honestly think some people only watch (or follow) sport for no other reason than to see if their personal theories play out. The only enjoyment they get out of it is being able to claim they called the outcome. A sad and lonely existence.

Which 3 finals? We’ve won 5

2016 FA Cup
2017 League Cup
2017 Europa League
2023 League Cup
2024 FA Cup
Say what you want, even at out lowest ebbs we still win here and there. Its a travesty such a DNA allowed to be slowly dismantled by the glazers and now INEOS.
The management should get some fecking mid term loan or pump in money and get him some money to get some players. First i wanted us to get great players, then i wanted any decent players and after today I'll take passable bodies.

Of course we weren't going to spend big in January, but that doesn't change the fact that he hasn't been around long enough for us to get players in that are capable of playing his system.

Dorgu Was up and down that flank all night, put in a great shift

He was actually atrocious. Did not contest for the header for the first goal, did not realise that there was a player behind him for the second.

Was easily allowing Cherki to go on the inside, nearly scoring in one occasion. Just like we were targeting Lyon's left side where Thaglafiko was playing and from where we score 2 goals, they did the same with our left side, targeting Dorgu.

Relieved, and well deserved. Pressure was mounting, Amorim now should have a good few nights of decent sleep. Well done Ruben.

This could be a real turning point for him but what we saw today was grim. We somehow won but Amorim has to be bold in his selection and as well evolve his tactics. 3-4-3 will work provided you have perfect players but getting those exact perfect players may not be possible.

Exactly. This was easily top 3-4 most entertaining and enjoyable United matches I’ve watched.

You can't claim to care about this club, and then be moaning after what we witnessed a few hours ago. Just mental how broken some people are. That was incredible, you're a boring broken person to still want to complain. Those moments, that magic is the whole point of football.

Unfortunately have to agree with this. Altough I can recall some good bits in ofensive transitions by Dorgu.

Defensively, you would expect a sturdy well build fella dominating. Patrick, yet, is not allert to danger, ball watching, does not know how to use his big frame yet in these critical defensive duels. But you can still work on defensive instict with Ruben. Working on elementary defensive responsibility.

They’ll tell you they just have higher standards. Never played or coached a minute of professional football, but they’re above just being fans.
