Which striker should we sign this summer?

Needs to be someone as robust as Bruno and Dalot. Basically, someone capable of playing 50 matches a season.

Lot of noise around it yesterday, however how reliable the sources are is another thing
Another possibility is Guirassy. He is already 29 but he is playing well at Dortmund and did even better at Stuttgart. As a stop gap solution due to age he could be a RvP of sorts, he should have 2-3 seasons in him. Can't see him fetching more than 30-40 million due to age, country of birth and low re sale value. Then again, if he scores 15 in the league and another 10 goals in other competitions that is 25 goals that really help the team so it might be worth the fee.

If we don’t qualify for Europe next year, the list of strikers to choose from will look a lot different. Delap will come if we can offer CL. We need to focus on young and hungry strikers and this lad is what we need. The price should be within our reach and yet we need another assuming Hojlund is moved. A real poacher like Hernandez would be nice. It’s finding one that’s gonna be tricky.

If Delap doesn’t happen we should see if we can swap Rashford for Watkins.

The swap deal involving Rashford and Ollie Watkins, I have to admit I like the sound of.

We need 2, especially if Hojlund leaves. If Gyökeres is going elsewhere, getting Watkins and Delap, 2 premier league proven forwards, for the combined total of 30m quid and one Marcus Rashford would be great business.

has a €70m release clause. It's not worth it.

It cannot be a straight swap for Rashford and Watkins. We need cash from the Rashford sale to boost our FFP. It will have to be two separate transfers.

I'm fine with it being two separate transfers, however expect him to be back in favour now anyway

I see. I would expect Dortmund to release him below that but perhaps north of 50 which might not be worth it.

One guy I've been impressed with since the WC in Qatar and the odd UCL game is Canadas Jonathan David in Lille. Reminds me a bit of David Villa or Lacazette, CF but could likely play from the left as well in a 4-3-3. Not the biggest presence up front but good speed, link up and shooting ability.

I don't follow him closely at all but he always seems to get on the score sheet. Does anyone here know why he hasn't been pouched yet?

Because he isn't a joey.

I don't think I've ever seen him play well or even score during a live game. If we sign him I'll have to avoid his minutes because apparently he's alright when I'm not looking.

On a free he'd be a great signing. But at the moment it makes no sense since we already have a 9.5 in Zirkzee who has been playing better before his injury to be fair. In our current financial state I wouldnt rule him out, but I prefer a more classic no 9

Yeah it wouldn’t go down on the books as free. I’d imagine it would be like the mkhitaryan and Sanchez deal. Practically speaking a swap deal, but both teams booked it as 30m for accounting purposes. I think we’d have to include a little bit of cash anyway to get villa to agree.

Cunha would have a magic effect on this team. I expect lots of smokescreens in our summer transfer business however, and there's no guarantee we will get the players we target. Have to be patient, realistic and adaptable in our position. I cannot understate the importance of Wilcox et al getting this summer right, if they don't then Amorim is a goner and the club will suffer another season in the doldrums.

How does this impact what fee he might be needed?
This, apart from age and which club that is selling, is the biggest predictor of a players value for three reasons.

1) Most leagues have a system in place that says for example 8 players in the squad must be British or trained/homegrown in a British Academy.

2) Most clubs think local fans identify more with native players and sell more shirts. If the foreigner isn't at least 20 % better or MUCH cheaper then they employ the local guy.

3) Players from the big footballing nations like Brazil, England, Spain, Argentina and so on fetch much bigger fees than players from Guinea, Armenia, Bolivia or Canada because some countries are synonymous with high quality while others are completely unknown.

All of the above drive higher fees for some or lower for others. How much would Kvaratskhelia be worth if he was British? I assure you not 70M, more likely 140M.

Fair enough, completely understandable and thanks for explaining.

Is pretty obvious but, for some reason, felt like you were making a point specific to his nationality.

Funny how even plain text can sometimes obfuscate the obvious!

Clearly Osimhen. He is a world class striker, available and willing to move. Priced at around 60million seems fair for a player like hin.

He is onn 30 goals this season already and it is a no brainer to go for him rather someone like Delap.

Fully on the train, however all noises seem to suggest senior board members on the Delap one

I think the only hope there seems to be if the Saudi move falls apart again. It was his first choice last summer and only broke down due to Napoli changing the asking price. The story for some time now has been that they will be back in for him this summer and that is the move he wants which is why none of the PL teams in obvious need of a striker are being linked, Ornstein confirmed that it is understood he is going to Saudi so everyone is looking elsewhere. If that does not materialize for some reason then maybe we get the chance to swoop in later in the window.

Do you see us still swooping if we have already secured Delap though. Personally I would say absolutely no chance but wanted your views. I agree it does seem like he is likely to end up in Saudi which is a complete waste of his talent.

I would guess we feel we have to move for Delap as it is doable regardless of CL qualification and it guarantees us an upgrade of sorts. We know almost every club bar City is looking at a new striker and the pool is small, if we don't pounce quickly we may be left with no viable targets. It will be annoying if someone better becomes available later in the window but not as bad as making no striker signings at all, just ask Arsenal.

I can understand moving for him early if they are worried about competition from Chelsea, just hope INEOS are willing to still keep an open mind if the opportunity for an Osimhen/Watkins arises later.

No disrespect to the both, but imagine going from Zirkzee and Hojlund to Cunha and Osimhen.
Will have to lure Osimhen away from the Saudi money by getting Champions League football. Strong sources they are still the front runners for him
