Transfer Tweets - Manchester United - 2024/25

You can see it in the way he plays and through him as a person (he's done some very good interviews on skysports). He's aggressive, ambitious and not fazed by pressure.

He had the choice at city to stay on but opted to go for the project at Ipswich and get his playing time, doing very well in the Championship. He didn't change his approach or look remotely out of depth with defenders in the premier league when the step up came. He played his aggressive, direct way and has a clear belief in his ability.

There's a risk with every player when joining United and considering the "step up", but it's quite clear that Delap looks like he'd relish these types of challenges.

Another aspect about Delap is the strengths he brings suits Amorim and pretty much most teams. He's quite a shit house  but he can carry the ball, he's not slow and has no problem taking a shot quickly. Of course Osimhen is probably a bit quicker, he's a better finisher but I don't think he offers anything else more.
He has the aerial ability over Delap

You can be busy thinking about which players to buy - being busy doesn't mean you actually do something

100% they could, we’d accept instalments, they pay Isco over 100k a week and they’re certainly now bringing in more money and performing better with Antony.

It's not about installments. Their record transfer fee ever was €30m and that was nearly 30 years ago.

They max they've spent on a player in the last 5 years was €13m but they rarely spend more than €10m on a single player. There's no way they're paying us what we want for Antony.

Would be a monumental boost to the transfer window. I’ll not get my hopes up

Where there is a way, there is a will. 34th richest club in the world, made 20 million from transfer in the summer, etc etc etc. But time will tell who’s right or wrong, they’re desperate to sign him as he’s improved their team and their finances.

Sorry but it's pure delusion. They're not breaking their transfer record for Antony.

Makes sense. We need to save money and catch up to the rest of the top teams, so what better place to start than getting rid of scouting? What possible use is scouting anyway? We should get rid of trainers and physios next. Completely pointless! Actually...do we really need footballers even??

What is your secret to remaining so calm?

Ideally they’re only axing the scouts that backed the signings of Onana, Hojlund, Mount, Antony, Sancho etc.

Deffo. We need to keep on as many people as possible that have been involved in recruitment over the past 10-15 years. Where's Woodward while we're at it?

Vivell probably helped in the decision and if we have too many, then this is a waste of money.

based on our scouting/recruitment in the last 10 years I would say we should replace all of them

If he's been there since 2016 his record is pretty feckin shit mate. You're just giving out about decisions made by the club because they're decisions made by the club aren't you?

Go and have a look and tell what the ratio of successful transfers to horrible transfers is since 2016 and then tell me whether or not it's a good decision or a bad one. That's beside the fact that they may have parted ways for completely different reasons.

It's not that easy - take a look at the players OGS recommended we sign - and who we actually ended up with. I am not defending this guy because I have no clue which players he recommended - but you can't really judge a scout without knowing if the club followed his recommendations or if he recommended player a or b and we ended up signing c

Yep, our actual scouting recs (Caicedo, Bellingham, Haaland and so on) when very few people were aware of them / chasing them were quite good.

You can't blame Antony, Mount signings on the scouts - that's on recruitment / DOF. You can't blame the scouts for the fees paid either. In one of the Whitwell / Orny articles (about the Ten Hag era as far as I can remember), he detailed the struggles between recruitment priorities and scouting recommendations and how scouting recs were often ignored.

Hojlund however, was a signing pushed by the scouts so they do get dinged for that for what it's worth.

My read of this is that the scouting team organizationally rolls up under Vivell after this change. I don't know how common it is to have one recruitment org and one scouting org vs having one guy oversee everything.

Just under £1m is so low.. I know he's been injured and there will probably be some kind of future clauses in there. But if this was City, Chelsea or Pool selling an academy youth, they would probably get like £10m. At least it feels that way.

We would probably be in the position to get that sort of fee, but he's had two successive seasons with injuries that have stunted his progress. No doubting the talent but it's whether he can put it all together now and put those injuries behind him.

We will put a sell on clause in I imagine, probably 40/50% which if he does well, we'll profit from greatly. I Wish him all the best if he does go, it's probably the right move for the long term.

Theyd pay 20m if he was at Chelsea.

Ya because our scouting department have picked up some beauties over the last few years…
