The irony...I'd rather he retired at United when he's 40 than sell for 200m now. He doesn't rely on pace so he can play as long as he wants. We need new players sure but not from selling Bruno. We cannot afford to sell one of the best players in the league. Are you guys for real? I can't take anyone thinking we should sell seriously.
Which player of note left a fanbase stunned to go to Saudi Arabia?I hope this is true but we would be far from the first fans to think our boy is above that only to find out they were not.
From around 240k to somewhere around 300k PER WEEK is a modest raise for you?! If you have something to do around the house, I am all up lending you a hand for a modest compensationHe's a Chelsea shill who knows nothing united related. Bruno is on 300k per week already, that's already generation wealth and then some. He also signed a new contract and accepted a very modest raise, so he's clearly not money driven. It's amazing how these ABU journalists are running this story a couple of days before our most important match of the season. To add to it, other sources are saying that Bruno is one of the few players that the club will not be selling this summer.
I feel you may be unfairly upping the ante here.Which player of note left a fanbase stunned to go to Saudi Arabia?
Three Dorgus duh.How would be replace him? I wouldn't trust us to spend 100+ quid. He's our best player by a mile selling him would be our biggest brain fart yet.
It is pretty clear the poster was referring to the percentage difference in his wage from one contract to the next. In the context of elite footballers signing new contracts, it wasn't much of a huge increase. From around 240k to somewhere around 300k PER WEEK is a modest raise for you?! ^^ based on all the claims that sums north of 120 million wouldn't be enough, I'd say stunned is a fine description. But it was a genuine question, was there any suprise move to Saudi Arabia, from players who were already at the highest level and wanted around the biggest leagues? I can't really remember any...I feel you may be unfairly upping the ante here.
So a 25%+ raise then is modest? Or do I misinterpret your post?It is pretty clear the poster was referring to the percentage difference in his wage from one contract to the next.
Head and heart and all this. All the mathematical arguments in the world won’t make it feel right.I get that, but playing devils advocate, he’s coming of a very good individual season stats wise, his value will never be this high again as he’s entering his 30s, and this might be the only time the Saudis are willing to pay stupid money.
I’d have no issue with letting him go as long as it was an outrageous offer and meant we could totally rebuild our first team as a result. Not sure the offer would be more than £80m anyway so think it’s a nonstarter
First two names that spring to mind where many fans didn't expect the player to go, for different reasons, were Henderson and Duran. Lot of scousers thought Jordan had more morals than that and the Villa fans thought Duran had more desire to play top level football. They were wrong though! Football players really like money.^^ based on all the claims of sums north of 120 million wouldn't be enough, I'd say stunned is a fine description. I had a look as well and have seen Dhuran and Diaby as well. Both were very promising youngsters, even though I'd say far from Brunos standing. Henderson would be a good shout, but wasn't he a bit of a part timer already when he moved?First two names that spring to mind where many fans didn't expect the player to go, for different reasons, were Henderson and Duran. That £100m+ will greatly accelerate and transform our suqad rebuild earlier than anticipated. Imagine reinvesting it in three to four high-potential players (assuming we get £100m lump sum). this squad has glaring holes and we lack quality and depth in attack. Cashing in on Bruno now, while his value is sky high, lets us address these issues and build a balanced squad for the next five years.
. With smart recruitment (and let’s hope INEOS nails this), that £100m+ could bring in players who elevate us beyond the top 4 we’ve been settling for.
Wasn’t there a fairly rated and talented Spaniard - Gabri Veiga or something, who left from Celta Vigo to the Saudi league at 21 or so - when he was being linked to a few of Europe’s bigger clubs?First two names that spring to mind where many fans didn't expect the player to go, for different reasons, were Henderson and Duran. Sometimes. What has our boy Ben said?
Toney was out of favor though wasn't he? I'd say Laporte would be a good shout. I checked the name you mentioned, hadn't heard about him before, but you are right, moved up from 3 to 30 million in market value within a year at Celta and then moved to Saudi Arabia at the age of 21.Wasn’t there a fairly rated and talented Spaniard - Gabri Veiga or something, who left from Celta Vigo to the Saudi league at 21 or so - when he was being linked to a few of Europe’s bigger clubs?
Toney is there as well.
Where would you find 3 or 4 players for 100m who also elevate United to top 4 and beyond?
Yes you can turn it down when Amorim is told it won’t be fully reinvested into new signings .Every players or person has a price tag.
Every player has a value and if that value is met then anyone can go because they are simply an asset that is both of value to us an valuable to someone else.
Garnacho at 60, Neymar at 200, Messi at half a million wage per week or something, Pogba at 89mil, Ronaldo at 100 or whatever.
Bruno's value for me to non saudi clubs is above 80 million only because of his age & him being our main player. Considering its Saudi we should be able to get 90-100m.
As magnificent as he is you can't turn down that type of offer, that's like selling 1 well built house that could help you buy 6 good flats instead.
It would say that the club acknowledges its dire position and at least considers making difficult decisions. Obviously it is a risk. But not doing anything (i.e. not taking chances when they present themselves to you carries risks as well)What would it say about us as a club if after finishing 15th and having scored less than 45 goals in the league we sell our one good attacker?
Bingo! There is no room for sentiment in football. Bruno Fernandes should absolutely stay at the club in almost all circumstances, however if a British record fee of 120m comes in, then it would be madness not to consider it for a player who is 30 years old. That money could be used to completely retool our squad, given that it represent pure profit under sustainability rules. That could be converted into Ederson, Cunha and Osimhen, and on an accounting basis we'd make a profit this summer.
I don't want Bruno to leave the club, not by any stretch, but we all know that if Fergie was in charge, this is exactly the sort of sale he would make and reinvest it incredibly well. I think the decisive factor here is whether we will use the money well or not.
Have you seen the contracts we've been handing out to other players? Also when you factor in that he's one of the best midfielders in the world, who has been consistently brilliant for us for years, then it seemed uncharacteristic for United to only give him an increase from 240k to around 300k a week.So a 25%+ raise then is modest? Or do I misinterpret your post?
your last sentence answers the question why we should not sell him.. I'm very sceptical whether we could get a good successor. And it's not even about the scouting skills, but rather that I think a) there are not many players of Bruno's level (not only his football level but also his leadership, passion and the fact that he's never injured and can play 70 games a season) and b) other clubs will know that we have money and won't give us their players for cheap. There is no room for sentiment in football. We would probably end up finally signing Frenkie de Jong and give him a 350k contract only for him to struggle with the EPL physicality and become a flopIf you look at United's recruitment over the past decade, and that goes for managers too. I completely agree that you'd have almost zero trust in the club, especially right now under INEOS who've made blunder and blunder, to find a replacement for Bruno.
This is the only assurance we could have that this transfer would benefit the club in the end.Pay off the club's debt, otherwise no thanks.![]()
It's a moot point if he doesn't want to go to Saudi, and frankly why would he? He already earns a packet here playing against (maybe not with) world class players every week.I get the love for Bruno Fernandes, he’s been a talisman for us, no question. But clinging to him when Saudi clubs are offering £100m+ is shortsighted and risky. At 31, Bruno’s at an age where decline can hit fast. Look at Kevin De Bruyne: whose injuries and inconsistent form over the last two seasons shows how quickly things can change. Bruno’s relentless energy and creativity are exceptional, but they’re not immune to time. His best form has carried United to top 4, FA Cup and potentially EL but let’s be honest, this squad isn’t challenging for the Premier League or Champions League with him as the centerpiece.

Holding onto a £100m asset whose value could plummet in 12 months is a massive gamble. Look at Casemiro whose form nosedived shortly after joining us and stuck with a high wage player we can’t shift. With smart recruitment (and let’s hope INEOS nails this), that £100m+ could bring in players who elevate us beyond the top 4 we’ve been settling for.
Sell Bruno, reinvest, and let’s build a squad that competes at the elite level again.
