Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

At the end of the day, its always about results. More wins, more prolonged runs of good results, and even the likes of Souness or Shearer will stop talking shite, putting unecessary pressure on the manager, the players and the whole club.

As an aside as my memory is bad at this stage: Did LVG really played 3 at the back and wingbacks formation? As his plan A? Dont remember it, and I certainly dont remember such an outrage towards Louis playing that "wrong" scheme. What the pundits now do to Amorim, just because he plays 3 backs and wingbacks is beyond the pale.
The formation isn‘t the issue, except for our lack of wingbacks possibly.

The solution for stopping the criticism is winning.

LvG played 3 cb‘s quite often, and would change systems to adapt to opponents. I remember we once played 3232 against Watford.

LvG got a system to work up to a point. I wouldn‘t say he was completely successful in implementing a style.

I would like to think Amorim would have at least two seasons to get his team working as he would like it to.

We're not talking about Amorim, though (that's kinda the point).

We're talking about the club, the structure, the new management (INEOS) and so forth.

As far as I'm concerned, Amorim is a coach - not the architect of United's future.

No. Because he replaced Conte who also played back 3. But Inzaghi's way of playing the formation is night and day compared to Conte's. Before Conte, they played back 4 with Spalletti.
So we just have to find our own Inzaghi then?

To the people who said the result at the weekend didn't matter, we should be flying going into this with swagger, but when you're losing every week under a manager who barely utters any positivity, it's difficult. We'll probably go through tonight but this tenure is light-years away from good enough so far.

This is the same old mental problems we've seen for years.

Players picking and choosing when to concentrate and put the effort in.

Everything was half arsed. Not even players getting back behind the ball and we've usually improved with that..

If he can’t get the job today with Bilbao missing all their key attackers then he should walk.

I’m not sure what he thinks the squad is capable of but employing our centre backs as a measure to try and control the game is a recipe for disaster.

The best form of defence is attack has never been quite been more applicable that this current United side. We simply cannot sit back for 90 mins and do nothing with ball. We aren’t capable of it.

We invited pressure when they weren’t even attempting to press us by passing square or back to Onana.

That’s something I’ve said since Mourinho : for some reason there is absolutely no intensity / agression / passion to our game
Our players always look so lethargic, it’s been going on for years

Re Amorim, the jury is still out for me but I never liked coaches that looked nervous on the touchline. Either sit on the bench or be a madman, but Im sure players seeing their coach walking around nervously doesn’t help.

It also looks like he sets up the team not to lose instead of setting it up to win

Overreacting as usual.
Bilbao had 1 good chance and scored 1 screamer.
We've had the more dangerous attacks. It's the same old problem though... Hojlund sucks, Garnacho is inconsistent and a bit dumb.
Bring Amad on.

People think this team will beat Tottenham? You are having a laugh. The team is slow, lacks technical ability throughout the spine of the team, and the big chances to be created and scored are by Dorgu and Garnacho in most of the game. They are inexperienced, inconsistent and ineffective.

A manager should never say it out loud that he thinks the team are capable of blowing a 3-0 lead at home. Makes everyone nervous.

I don’t think I’ll be ever convinced by this system. Exposed over and over again.

I don’t think I can put into words just how much I hate this system. It’s negative, cowardly rubbish. 5 defenders & 2 defensive midfielders at home. For a club the size of Manchester United. Its a Jose wet dream but should be nowhere near Old Trafford.

Why we keep hiring managers that have absolutely no intention to dominate midfield and control the game is beyond me though. The last one that actually wanted to control games was LVG. Since then it’s just been a succession of managers who seemingly have no intention or clue how to win a midfield battle.

Come on! You cannot watch the performance of these players and seriously think anyone else is getting them to play competently? The players are the most brainless, talentless and physically weak going the performances and results back this up. There is no magic managerial wand, the players need to be replaced and I mean 70-80% of 1st team.

It's 50:50, assuming we reach the final and no more injuries.

It would be great to have De Ligt back.

Absolutely no pressure, keep the ball and pick them off. Too much for this manager and squad unfortunately. They’re missing a handful of their best players but you wouldn’t know because they have an actual system…oh the irony.

Totally agree.

We probably have three players on the pitch that don't have severe limitations of some kind.

And yet ETH, despite having an absolutely awful system himself, did exactly that. Amorim has taken a poor team and made them absolutely horrific. In his own words, we’ve been the worst team in the league since he took over. And he’s not wrong.

Awful players this...

No signings that...

Needs time etc etc etc...

All fair enough statements. However, none of them in any combination excuse the way he has us playing. His system. His style of play. It is awful to watch 9 games out of 10.

The night went so different for him when he decided to attack

Subs were spot-on. Changed the game for him

Congrats on getting to the final.
Now it's a must win game.

Was Amorim out. Now in the middle. If he can find a way to do this in the Prem then I'm in. Otherwise...

But fair play, congratulations. Great game.

My mouth is zipped now until next season...

Brilliant substitutions. Amazing job in this competition so far. Let’s smash spurs and put a bow on it.

Exactly so why doesn't he do it from the start how many games do we shit the bed look crap then he has to go gung ho for us to look threatening and a team who can score.
Cause Amad and Mount were game changers and Garnacho and Ugarte are huge downgrades on them based on form. Can’t attack when your attackers can’t do the basics right.

Ain't no MOUNTain high enough...

What a difference would have been to our season if Amad and Mason were fit.

Amad on for Mazraoui and Mount on for Ugarte, move Bruno back, we win the second half comfortably.
Once the subs were on it showed even more so that Bruno in this system is better as a midfield orchestrator with two mobile 10’s and the striker ahead of him, Bruno needs the game fully in front of him and we need creativity in midfield so it just makes so much sense.

You need the attackers. Amad is still being eased back. You can see clear as day how much better we look with some actual attackers out there
