Ferguson is back in the Hunt

teddy reckons ole is the best finisher he's ever played with, which is some compliment but you'd have to be mad not to recognise ruud's finishing ability. I find hard to believe he is no where near the finishing level of huntlarr chief. Ive seen next to nothing of huntlaar but he'd have to score every chance he got and some he didnt get (i.e. score non chances) to be a on a different level to ruud.

Ruud used to miss his fair share of chances. He was especially not good at one on ones with keeper.

goal scoring isn't just a function of pure finishing. ruud had more strength and better anticipation in the box, however from a pure 'cleanliness' of strike, ole was the best. Ole is one of the best i've ever seen in that sense, in terms of how sweetly and cleanly he can strike a ball, consistent with that too.

KJH is worth a punt of 15 million quid. My ideal strike force would be wazza, tevez, kjh, benzema. Perfect quartet. each bringing something distinctly to the table, making for very good combinations. not to mention youth and hunger.
Seconded

You have to watch him then. The fella unbelievably clinical. The way Ole was clinical. His intelligence and ability to easily position himself in the right place and the right time always is astounding. Give him a chance and 9 out of 10 times he will bury it. A Ruud would only bury like 7 out of 10. One on one with keeper he literally never misses. Which I can't say about Ruud. Who is a great finisher in his own right. Since he and Ole are the best finishers I've seen at United since Law. But Ruud simply doesn't have Huntelaar's variety. The guy can chip, head, tap in, shoot from far, use angled top corner shots ala Henry, curve his shots, hit with power, pick a spot with precision plus score free kicks. Even his goal stats for Ajax say a lot. He makes it look to easy. Honestly he is the best finisher I've seen, since I last saw Gerd Mueller on tape. The people who say he is a Van Basten are not wrong at all. But everyone has an opinion. You no doubt will form your own when you see him. I will honestly be shocked if he leaves Holland and flops in any other league.

And now you're right back on the money. Agree 100%.

What madness is this?

Jaysus, Chief, for someone who clearly loves football as much as you do (and who obviously knows a fair bit about the game) you have an un-canny ability to come up with the occasional tid-bit of exquisite horseshit.
I don't give shit what you think frankly. I've watched both players. I have no doubt Klaas is the much superior finisher. Even though Ruud is a great finisher. He is not in Klaas' league.

So Chief, since you think highly of Huntelaar, who would you rather have at United, him, Berbatov or Benzema?

Go to hell Pogue

Oh untwist your panties, why don't you.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy is one of the best finishers of the modern game, has scored shit-loads of goals in 3 different leagues and is one of the all-time highest scorers in the Champion's League.

To even try to suggest that some young whipper-snapper, who's never even played outside the Dutch league, is so much better a finisher that "Ruud doesn't even come close" is muppetry of the highest order.

I'm one of a number of people who've called you out for talking such utter nuts. But there's no need to take it all so personally :)

Oh, please. This is madness. Can we make the Chief shut up now? Pogue, why do you even bother? You know you ain't gotta get any sense into him. Let this spastic episode heal itself, without commenting. It's usually the best way. That or we can take the piss out of him ala Bramble>Zidane.

If I had to pick one it would be Berbatov. He just has too much in his locker to be ignored.

But that locker also includes a hefty price tag and great big servings of sulkiness and petulance.

That's what puts me off him as a choice. Someone else in the thread mentioned how would he act if he fell down the pecking order for a few games?

Obviously the 'not coming close' comment is overboard, but there's nothing wrong in saying another player has better finishing than Ruud. Ole was better. Klaas might be better as well (no idea as I've never seen him other than youtube). It's almost certain he won't have the all-round game of Ruud and won't score as many as Ruud did in better leagues, but he could still have better finishing.

No. Because Ruud also played in the self same Dutch league before he got the respect he has now. It is infact where he proved himself. In the others he was just convincing the world that what he did in Holland was no fluke. That's all. :D

Who said it was personal? I missed my grin...:D

Ruud is still one of the best finishers I've ever seen, even better all-round than Ole(including headers etc.) The guy could finish everything.

Ole is probably the best finisher I've seen with his feet, though. Fat Ronaldo in his prime was frightening. Ruud's still up there somewhere.

Haven't seen too much of Klaas, about 5 games, but I've still seen him miss great chances. Chief is spouting shit about this subject.

If petulance and moody sulkiness had put us off Cantona we wouldn't be where we are now. :D

But I don't ever remember it affecting Eric's game? Sometimes Berbatov just looks like he can't be arsed as his game suffers because of it.

But given the two options I can't really speak for this French fella, as I have never (knowingly) seen him play at all.

I agree. I think he looks very good at meeting crosses. He has a good sense of timing.

I caught a few Ajax games last year, and he was occasionally playing a holding role. He worked well with Sneijder and the other winger (whose name I forget right now?) But their inter-passing and movement was great.

And yes, he is lethal in the air.

The problem is people want him and Keane to carry a lousy Spurs side all the time. Spurs are pretty wank away fro home. That is the main reason he disappears in most away games and looks pretty uninterested. Because his team is giving him no help whatsoever. But few realise this. He never used to do that at Leverkursen. I assure you.

I'll have to take your word for it, as I've tried watching Bundesliga before, but it usually puts me to sleep..

Now people compare this:
Ruud at Hereenveen
1997-1998 13 goals in 31 apperances
Ruud at PSV
1998-2001 63 goals in 67 appearances

Klaas at Heerenveen
2004-2006 34 goals in 46 apearances

Klass at Ajax
2006-2008 55 goals in 66 appearances

What does the above tell you? Bearing in mind Ruud played with far superior personnel surrounding him both at Hereenveen and at PSV. As compared to Klaas at Heerenveen and Ajax.

Whats the difference of scoring a goal out of nothing in Holland or England?? After all you get a chance to score right??

Has there been anymore reports about this since the first one or has all gone very quiet?

Ruud is one of the finest finishers in modern football. He had been netting goals for fun with five different clubs in three different leagues (+ CL) and both at club and international level. Questioning his record is ridiculous.

Ole was a different type of player then Ruud. Ok he was a striker, and someone who relied on his finishing skills. Stating that I always felt that he was more suited to be a supersub rather then a first teamer. Mind Im not trying to downgrade Ole in any way, in fact his ability of getting into the game and score important goals deserves great respect. Im just saying that its difficult to compare such players.

Returning to Huntelaar I feel that the boy has great potential. Stating that, while his goals stats are impressive at least at local level, I dont think he is at Ruud's level yet. At Huntelaar's age Ruud was already scoring goals for fun both at CL level and national level.
