Anyone who thinks Federer is a better grass court player than Sampras doesn't know how grass court tennis works. Even if Federer pulls off this game, it won't change anything.

His baseline game really can NOT hold up against Nadal, he makes so many unforced errors.

I'm not even going to bother addressing the knee-jerk criticisms of Federer, the people who really know, the experts and ex-players for the most part don't agree with them, why do you think that is?

What I will say though is anyone who dismissed Rafa's game as pure strength doesn't know nearly as as much about the game as they think they do. To play the lines like he does, with the power and consistency he does, requires incredible technique and ability.Anyone who thinks it doesn't should go grab a racquet and see how close they can get to playing like that.

No one's claiming that Federer was never among the best
It was mainly in response to Kevin's (or Kelvin. They really need to stop posting in the same threads) ludicrous post that Federer is a joke and that going 2 sets down at Wimbledon would never happen to Sampras.

I'm not entering the Sampras v Federer debate 'cause I don't watch enough tennis. Just offering a cold heart fact in the face of pure BS.

Agree with the last paragraph. I've never rated Federer as good as most people have done, so no knee-jerk reaction there. I've said a long time ago that his service and volley, whilst decent enough to be called a good allround player (not the most complete player ever as people claim  , he's actually a great baseliner, not better than Nadal, with decent ability at the net as well), is not good enough to cope with the best of baseliners, like Nadal... he realizes what he has to do, but he can't and has to slug it out from the baseline now. No plan B what they call eh.

I agree. There are many people here with agenda either to put Federer down or put Nadal down or hail Federer as best ever.

Both are two of the best players to come out in this decade and I for one am thankful that we have another rivalry going finally in Tennis after getting bored of watching Fed teach Roddick a Tennis lesson every year.

To that type of player, it would never happen. Sampras wouldn't have to slug it out on the baseline against Nadal and win loads more free points on his serve.

Some really idiotic comments here. If you don't know about the game, better don't post. It's embarrassing.

1st idiotic comment: Nadal is boring.

He hits shots no one else can dream off, he chases down everything. He don't own a big serve and aced people off the court like sampras did all the time. The rallies he got involved in are usually top class with lotsa baseline rallies and solid ground strokes.

BORING? You probably don't understand the game.

2nd idiotic comment: Sampras is GOD and will beat every Federer, Nadal, and every other tennis player today.

Yes. Sampras is a supreme player. Yes, his game on class is unmatched. But he also lost games before, so don't build him up to the GOD that you think he is. Sampras never won french open, and never even got to the final. Federer got to 3 finals and would have won if not for nadal. Sampras will probably beat Nadal and Federer on grass, due to his big serve, but we won't know for sure, will we?

This is a match between federer and nadal, why are sampras lovers keep talking about him in this thread? Federer will in all likelihood surpass his 14 grand slams, and like it or not, he will go down as a better player than sampras if he managed to do that.

So Federer can do anything, even win 10 wimbledon titles and it wont matter because Sampras being the best on grass can never actually change. Interesting point.

Its amazing how many chances Federer has missed today. Its a mental issue, he needs to overcome this Nadal hurdle mentally.

Two break chances, two second serves from Nadal and two unforced from Federer.

His head simply isn`t in it.

Federer would probably beat Sampras more times on Hard courts and definitely clean him up on Clay. Sampras the best Serve and Volley player ever and dealt with much better grass court players than Federer has during his time.

Anyway th guy above is right, this is not the time for this discussion.

What did I tell you about his volleying? Nadal will feck up Federer in three sets on his favorite surface... and it's not far off from his French open massacre of him.

Kevin were you here in years past posting every few seconds on Federer's brilliant tennis?
