Miguel Veloso, Andrei Arshavin and David Bentely

Yes, but not it seems between the two clubs. According to his agent:

"The only stumbling block though, is Andrei's current club, Zenit. They are financially very stable and do not need to sell Andrei to raise funds.

Due to this, they are asking for more than is required, which is troubling my client. ...

A preliminary fee was agreed, which allowed Andrei to speak with Tottenham Hotspur. After discussing his terms with the club, Andrei was very happy and told me that Tottenham are the club he wants to play for.

Unfortunately, Zenit increased their valuation of him, which has caused a bit of a problem between the two clubs".

If accurate, it looks like Zenit are trying to hike up a previously agreed price at the last minute.

Sounds familiar.

Gotta feel for Arshavin.

He dreamed of Barca, wished to play for Arsenal - and is going to end up a Spud.

Talk about a club ruining a dream transfer.

Arshavin is a cock. He should have kept his mouth shut about transfers until after the Euros. He comes out and says how much he wants to go Barca after 2 good games in the Euros. Then does nothing in the semi V Spain - as the whole of Spain is looking him.

Lots of reports in the Russian press that Arshavin is off to Tottenham. The other candidate for his signature is said to be Fiorentina. IMO, he's very overrated these days, and Zenit will milk the Spurs for much more than the amount he's actually worth.

Also read the Pavlyuchenko news - if the Spurs offer 15 million, Spartak will bite their hands off. He's a good player, but definitely not Premiership Top 4 good, and under no conditions worth an eight-figure sum.

There is something about Pavlyuchenko that makes me predict that he will be Sergei Rebrov Part II

I endorse this sentiment. Chenkos have never really done the biz for English teams, the greatest being of course one of the Shev kind. If Spurs want to sign a striker they could go for Klaas Jan, a proven deadly operator

He wont go to Spurs!! I don't give a damn if Spurs buy a shit striker anyway as long as he paves the way for the arrival of Berbs

Ooh but it can happen sir, much like when Van der Vaart went to Hamburger or DeRidder playing for bleedin' Wigan given the hype a few years back( Mind you in the few games that I saw him play for Birmingham, he did look like he had some class in him and Liverpool, Spurs or Barcodes should have given him a consideration) or when Tevez and Mascherano ended up at West Ham

True, it's just that he has his mind set on a big team or nothing!! DeRidder never lived up to his potential, but not many do from Ajax these days..

From an interview with Dick Advocaat (Zenit manager) at Zenit's training ground today:

"According to Advocaat, Arshavin is interested in joining Spurs and might have even already agreed personal terms. However, Zenit rejected Tottenham's offer for Arshavin. "I think this was not the Spurs' last offer," Advocaat said. When our journalist asked Advocaat if it makes sense for Arshavin to join a club that has not recently played in the Champions League and is not considered to be elite, Advocaat seriously answered: "In England, there are more than just one or two top teams. Spurs are an elite club with great history.""

You cant get more confirmation that that. Spurs want him, He wants to go, Zenit are in negotiations with Spurs. The only issue that remains is the price for him.

Wouldnt you like to have more spending money, Tottenham? :smirk:

I really dont think Spurs need him when they have Modric. Not too sure who else would be on their radar instead though... It obviously needs to be a creative player.

Tevez and Mascherano ended up at United and Liverpool eventually though. West Ham was supposed to be a stepping stone and in fact it was a stepping stone for Tevez only, as Mascherano did not get to play much there.

Which silly line-ups would that be?

The ones you come up with in each fecking thread each time theres a fecking player you're linked with. Whats more annoying is the detailed instructions you give to each one of them.

That said, you haven't totally ruined the joy of watching Ramos live the transfer muppet dream. You do speak sense sometimes, and your Dos Santos/Rosicky comment proved you can be a very funny guy too! ;)

Now Tottenham are very close to signing Derby goalkeeper Stephen Bywater as a backup. This summers transfer window seems to be all about them right now.

That will be the most comical of signings if it goes through. If you want to break the top 4 you don't want your backup goalkeeper to be a mediocre Championship player. Should have kept Cerny. He was alright.

Zenit Stand Firm on Arshavin

Russian ace will not be allowed to leave on the cheap

Zenit St Petersburg have refuted suggestions that they are willing to lower their asking price for Andrei Arshavin.

The Russia international has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham of late, although the Premier League side are reluctant to meet the players' valuation.

That had led to reports that Zenit would be prepared to slash the £24million price tag down to £19million.

However, Spurs' hopes that they would be able to save £5million on the talented playmaker appear to have been dashed, with a spokesman for the Uefa Cup holders branding these rumours 'untrue'.

The club's sporting director Konstantin Sarsaniya also strongly denied the suggestions, saying: "The situation has not changed. Tottenham offered us £15.8m for Andrei, but that does not work for us. We are waiting for a new proposal."

Spurs have money to spend following the sale of Robbie Keane to Liverpool, but with Giovani dos Santos, Luka Modric and David Bentley having all been acquired over the summer they will not be prepared to break the bank for another creative influence.

Zenit say Spurs need to raise their offer. They clearly need more money.

Not quite as funny as the Spuds shelling out massive dollars for Bentley, meanwhile Arshavin's looking like our ace in the hole.

Impressed like a lot of people thought, good buy by Wenger and looks like the right cost as usual...
