Vieira, oh oh oh oh
Vieira, oh oh oh oh
Let Vidic head the ball
And Jose won feck all

Ten years on he's still providing excellent song-writing moments.

He looked like a past-it, immobile lump today
Think he was injured before this match? So it was a bit of a surprise to see him start (although rather un-Mourinho-like, he made a mistake to start Vieira just as he made a mistake to start Rivas in the first leg).

Or perhaps Mourinho thought Vieira would get a warm reception at Old Trafford to boost his spirits.

was he even playing? Useless bag of shite, and to think there were pure Reds wanking because we 'almost' signed him the summer of 2006.....

A someone on here thought he made them stronger  :wenger:

His game was built on his pace and ability to drive forward, he's lost that so he's not the same player

You could argue Roy Keane based his game on the ability to drive forward but in the latter end of his career he changed his game and still had a decent level of performance at the age of 34. Would have thought Vieira, particularly given that he was a smart player would have been able to do the same.

Exactly and he never had that footballing brain to help him adapt his game, but hes barely played this season and you could see that today

NO! Keane game was built on his passing, the snarling, tacking and running around were nothing to the passing, that's why I went nuts for Carrick when the discussions were going on regarding a replacement.

Nah he's just had so many injuries that he's lost any kind of edge to his game.

Finally

That's the one aspect that's finished him and tbfair its been that way for a few years

He gave his all for the Arsenal till I'd say 2004 and after that it was an inevitable medical decline

Nevertheless for us, one of the greats

In both legs, Mourinho had to haul a player off at the half because he was awful. Poor choices or a crap squad?

Viera has a condition where one leg is longer than the other, which I believe gets worse with age. Wenger basically got rid of him at exactly the right time and made a tidy sum on the side too.

feckin' tosser. The first goal is all his fault. He's useless now, he should feck off to Portsmouth or Wigan.

When you're replaced by Mr.Passport and he plays better than you, it's time ot take up the booth.

That was his last game for Arsenal... he was a fantastic player in the Premier league. Arsenal haven't seen a trophy since he left.

Aware, I have great respect for the man.

I just think the pic was an attempt to get a rile going, I could just be looking too far into it but that's just me... you'd be hard-pressed to find someone on here who didn't at least respect him.

it was more a reply to the one of Giggs standing over Vieira. After posting it i realised that we have been in the drought since he left.

Arsenal wouldnt have won anything even if he was still with them. With chelsea dominance and United's re-emergence the possible big factors.

The only player to have mixed it with Keane at his peak and give as good as he got

On that he's unique

There were a couple of seasons where he minced Keano completely, (you can argue all you want) where he really got inside his pants, but to Keane's credit he came back and took up the fight again.

What an immense rivalry that was - talk about toe to toe

Last of the great midfield warrior rivalry's imo

Sadly almost unrecognisable now

I disagree... he still looks a cnut

Anyway, Vieira's a champion player. One of the very best midfielders to play in the PL, there weren't many players, ever, that could boss games like him.

The Vieira / Keane battles are missed.

Gattuso's game is similar to Vieira's. Guess hes going to go into decline soon, he is out injured for a few months. He could possibly be no better than him when he returns :(

Was mate, was. He was a massive presence for Arsenal from 1997 right through to around 2004 (his form declined rapidly 2004-05 season) and was a major force in their title successes.
And yes, Keane versus Vieira will always be one of the best ever English football conflicts.
But it wasn't just Keano, he had conflicts with many a player, one of the most famous being Ruud in 2002 through to 2004, and back in 1999 when the dirty cnut spat at Neil Ruddock;
