Surprised this bloke's name hasn't been mentioned as a possible make-weight in the Ronaldo deal.

Madrid are rumoured to be keen on "de-Dutching" their squad and we already know SAF rates him. Similar age to Ronaldo (despite looking twice his age) which means he's still young enough to put his injury woes behind him and just finished a very productive season.

Thoughts?

He has. And every other player we're not going to get.

Would take him for around 15 million. He's a brilliant player on his day and hopefully SAF could do something about his selfishness.

Madrid aren't gonna be able to play Ronaldo, Ribery and Robben in the same team, that's for sure.

In terms of potential - and performances this season - himself and Ribery are only behind Rinaldo and Messi in terms of top young wingers in Europe.

15 million?

I don't think he's fit enough times to be worth that. The problem is he's a good player but you'd be replacing an ever present with what robben is

If he sorted out his issues? He's an excellent player on his day

No, that ship has long sailed. Injury prone, and at 25 his decision making is still iffy and he's quite selfish on the pitch. We didn't sell Ronaldo to get a lesser version of him, including less hair.

It's not quality that's the issue, after Saha and Hargreaves I'd be wary of bringing in another sicknote.

They're not that young for wingers - 25 and 26.

The fees would be daylight robbenry or daylight ribery.

Ribery's on his bike this summer, one way or another. I hope we sign him, if not he'll end up at Madrid.

It's not just this place that's gone mental, by the way. Someone just spent 80 million quid on a footballer.

As for Robben, I don't watch much Spanish football but my favourite podcast guru, Sid Lowe, gave the distinct impression that Robben was ever-present in Madrid's massive winning streak after Christmas and was playing the best football of his career.

He is a great player, but we need somebody to replace Ronaldo's goals. We have enough pace and creativity in the team already.

Rubbish assumptions. He might stay, he might go to Milan, he might go to Chelsea. feck knows, but all of a sudden he's a reason Robben will leave Real? Keep it together dude.

Largely true insofar as Robben had a real purple patch which helped to spur Madrid back into the title race. Overall a tidy season, not as barnstorming as his early days at Chelsea (and Real), but still good enough to rank him in the top bracket of wingers this season (Messi excepted).

He wasn't that productive, he was still overly selfish as always, and only got 7 goals and 6 assists.

He was one of their best players in that run, but then Higuaín, Raul and Pepe were all just as important if not more so.

Thing is if you've got worries about Nani's attitude then I can't see why you wouldn't have the exact same worries about Robben. He's still inconsistent, he's still too selfish, he still has personality clashes with players and he's still getting a bollocking from the manager for not doing what he's told.

Wouldn't want him here.

We lost a feck of a lot of our pace this morning.
Nani will provide enough of it. We need to distribute Ronaldo's duties because it is fecking hard to find such a complete forward. As it stands, we have enough players to provide pace and creativity, but not many who can finish.

Ferguson on Robben when asked about Reals chances in the CL

"There is (Arjen) Robben, the only one who can give them some rhythm, but he isn't very brave."

Fairy muff.

My information on his performances this season was second-hand.

Very good second hand information at that too, I like Sid Lowe.

Don't really agree with a lot of his views on Madrid this season though, I think a lot of his comments about them were tainted by how good they were in 6 or 7 games in a row. The rest of the time they were a bit crap, Robben included.

Higuain was the only consistent performer for them, IMO, I'd happily take him.

I think he could become one of the best strikers around. He's got all the attributes needed though - pace, movement, workrate, interplay, dribbling, shooting, and he's not bad strength-wise or aerially either. Very well rounded.

Although he's got some bloody tough competition.

Pato, Aguero, Torres, Rooney, Adebayor* are all going to be around for at least another 5 years at the top.

*Talented enough to, whether he actually does anything about it is another thing.

I think he could also play the Ronaldo role to an extent. Better than most other players perhaps including Ribery. Regardless, he's a decently sized unit, has pace and a finish. Pretty much everything we want right now.

Yep, he probably is the only player in Europe who is similar to Ronaldo actually.

Big difference being Higuain has said he doesn't really like playing on the wing, though.

Nope! Krasic is pretty much a lesser Ronaldo. Is even similarly a threat in the air. Would have liked him to come in if we were pushing Ronaldo up front... We're now pushing him slightly further, to Madrid, but still.

I think Krasic is the most like-for-like winger I've seen. But Higuain has the qualities to play the same role too.
