Barcelona have received plaudits (rightly so) for some of their performances over the past two seasons, but lets give credit to Inter for one of the all time great defensive performances.

Some incredible statistics:

Inter attempted 44 passes in the entire match and completed just 25 of them. They had just 22% of the ball.

In spite of Barcelona's possession dominance and territorial advantage, Inter conceded just 12 fouls - only one more than Barca.

To soak up that level of pressure, to relinquish that much of the ball and yet to concede relatively few chances and fouls is astonishing.

All power to Mourinho and Inter - incredible performance.

If you are one for stats, here are some:

86.4% - Barcelona recorded the highest possession ratio in a match this season in the Champions League.

Xavi (153) made 37 more passes on his own than the whole Inter Milan team (116).

Barcelona (1372 passes) completed 999 more passes than Inter Milan (373) over the two legs.
And yes, the Barca wankfest has stopped for the Mourinho wankfest to begin. Its the start of a new era.

those statistics can be read in a very different way
I choose to read them in the context of a shocking red card decision. They played 60+ mins against Barca in the Nou Camp with a man less.

Dunno about the Barca wankfest but sitting through 180 minutes of English commentators wanking over Mourinho has been fecking tough.
Mourinho played his part, but the players deserve credit for an incredible performance tonight.

Seeing more of the same on here is depressing.
They were loving Barcelona as much as Mourinho, it was nauseating, I can appreciate if there is an English side in the match, then yeh fair enough, but just tell it like it, now how you think we want to hear it

Spot on.

I honestly don't understand the hatred towards Barcelona on this forum, especially this season. It was never this bad.

Passes don't win football matches, goals do. Inter were full value in the first leg - they were the better side.

That possession ratio is inflated by the red card. What were Inter supposed to do?

Barca conducted themselves in a classless way at times today. The Sergi Busquets play acting was astonishing.

ok, that's fair, what about the penalty not called for them in the first leg? what about the penalty not called this leg?

i too wanted them to lose, i want to be us as the few teams that made it two times in a row to the CL final, but the wank fest was pretty much deserved

i think i know what you mean, but at the same time, only one goal and maybe two other clear cut chances whilst having only 20% of possession and not making that much fouls....that's top notch defending in my dictionary

I only called it a wankfest to gain attention for the thread.

I also said in the OP that Barca's plaudits were fully deserved.

But, although it's not sexy, that was an incredible rear guard action.

Mourinho deserves every plaudit and platitude that comes his way. He is already a great. And if he can win the final will become a modern day icon. His acumen, talent and self belief is unquestionable and I for one say that he should be given the highest levels of compliments and recognition.

Shove that up your Chavski!

The wankfest will not stop.If they win their league it will continue
Nothing wrong with that.

I only called this thread "the wankfest" so people would click on it.

Barca's plaudits are fully deserved. They conceivably could have won tonight - even to the last, with the disallowed Bojan goal, they were playing their football. They never compromise their principles.

There were, however, a couple of very classless moments from them.

I'm just glad the whole wankfest that started from one refereeing disaster (Ovebro) seems to end despite another one tonight.

Best club side ever? You're having a laugh...

When we beat Barcelona Fergie was recieving the same plaudits and we were being hailed for our defensive masterclass over the two legs.

Inter have done the same, and for an hour, at the Camp Nou, with Barcelona chasing a two goal deficit, they were down to ten men.

Great credit goes to Mourinho and the players.

okl, i get it now,

anyway, as you know, three of the inter players that stoped one of the best offensive teams ever, were argies -Samuel, Cambiaso and Zanetti- so i'm delighted for them and i wish maradona grows a brain before deciding which players he will take to south africa

Whatever man this is how evil wins. How can an Inter fan sitting and watching this performance say he is proud of his team? They had zero shots on target. Sorry for me only one team was trying to play football. But its almost impossible when you have 7-8 huge men in the box with only one mission, and then the referee disallows you legit winning goal.

feck 'em.

There's nothing remotely likeable about him or his players. I think you'll find the praise on here for Fergie in 2008 was coming mainly from United fans. What I can't understand is why this board is suddenly populated by closet Inter fans.

Barca acted like twats an' all tonight but the love-in for Mourinho (and Inter) on here is making my skin crawl. He's such an unlikeable dick.

Surely you're not referring to the pathetic dive by Alves tonight, Marcos?

It's always OTT when coaches take the credit for this type of performance anyway. You don't have to congratulate Mourinho, but those Inter players were sensational defensively and deserve all the credit in the world.

i see it this way, the game was being win by Inter by 3-1 it was Barca time to try to score and inter to stop them

i think that the best team in both legs won

don't forget that barca scored when they least deserve it

just like they do against us last year

i cant believe he has not been playing cambiasso...

him and that cnut from liverpool would give a very solid base in midfield and maybe be able to cover the work veron wont do...

and as for forwards... there cant be any other country in the wc with so many options...

any one of teveth, aguero, messi, milito, higauin would all not only make our squad but probably our 1st XI

Im still 100% convinced maradona will find a way of gashing it up like not playing messi because he might be as good as maradona was or doing something crazy like playing heinze as the only centre back... but you potentially have some very good players in that squad (if he decides to take them or play them is another matter)

Sorry I forgot, you'd have set you're team up to go and attack Barca and get spanked 4-0 ala Arsenal.

Thats a tactical masterclass.

And how many shots on target did they have with that extra man? Accept it dude, they decided to play negative from the first second.
They still had an attacking outlet. With 11 v 11, they probably would have offered more going forward as the game wore on, on the counter attack.

And anyway, they were 3-1 up from the first leg and were not compelled to attack. Who in their right mind would go there and open up the game?

Defending is an art and they basically perfected it tonight.

Stop being a snob. There is more than one way to play football.

...calm down you big grinch. Anyone who likes Mourinho is suddenly a closet inter fan?...Oh do feck off.

btw, Barca turning the sprinklers on was one of the least classy things I've ever seen....pathetic. I'm glad they got fecked over just for that..
