It's not even remotely 'obvious'. It's open to speculation as we don't know enough as of yet.
Its not obvious because it didnt happen :wenger:

If he had signed for 2 more years on the same wages he was on, then yes it would have been obvious that he's off. As thats not a long term plan.

ahhh that arbitrary line crossed by Rooney. Give over, Ronaldo wanted away for a couple of seasons and had be convinced by Fergie to stay for another season. Prior to the CL final vs Barca he told the world that he was staying at United yet he moved on in the summer. But you must've forgotten how he played it out through the media. He was vilified by United fans and rightly so. Viva Ronaldo was drowned out by Viva John Terry. But yeah, a few choice words and everyone's re written history.

They're both cnuts and that's a fact. But as I said earlier, the Rooney saga will be looked a differently in a couple of years. Once he starts banging in the goals he'll be loved again. Such is the fickle nature of fans. The main point is Rooney is STILL at Old Trafford while Ronaldo plays for a different club. I'm not sure how one is better than the other quite frankly, even though fans will try to convince otherwise.

Well Ronaldo always said that it was his dream to play for Madrid once.
There's nothing wrong with that.
The whole "only god knows" thing in front of the media was surely wrong and he got good bashing for that from us. (deserved bashing)

But at least he never stepped up, questioning the club's ambitions and made this to his main reason why he wanted to leave the club (officially).
That's just plain wrong. There is no fecking excuse for that after all those years of success, especially when he was about the worst player for us during the last months and looked like giving no shit for us at all on the pitch, whereas Ronaldo (apart from some games, where he didnt look too interested) was alway one of the best players on the pitch for us till the day he left us for Madrid.

Rooney has just completely fecked up imo.

probably been mention but what are the chances of this just being a delay until the summer for the transfer stories to pop up again and all this was just a settlement between Rooney and United to make sure he doesnt leave for nothing and that we get the money he is rightly worth for him?
no. It will make Fergie and the club look like idiots. They would not be part of this.

If he was to be sold in the summer, they would have extended the contract and the negotiations would not have been so public.

Rooney did mention last season that he thought we needed to get a top striker. I think he did mean it when he said he wanted the owners/club to be more ambitious.

Again, historical revision. He initially said that he'd love to play in Spain for Barca or Real. He didn't not specify which club till Real started tapping him up.

I wasn't taking issue with what you said. Simply saying that with what we know it's impossible to gauge whether he's really in it for the long haul or not.

Nope, if someone's stupid enough or willing (same thing) to pay that sort of money who the hells going to say no?

You certainly wouldn't and neither would i, easy living, morals dont come into it im afraid.
Don't presume to know what other people would or wouldn't feel. Why do so many people do this?

I would feel hugely embarrassed if I'd pushed for this amount of money for kicking a ball around grass. And many others would to.

Nope and therefore I'm not going to talk about how "embarrassed if I'd pushed for this amount of money for kicking a ball around grass."
Yet you're willing to presume I'm lying...or that I'd happily take it. What concern or knowedge is it of yours exactyl?

So basically, I'm a dick if I say I wouldn't, but right on if I say I would...eh?

Yet you're willing to presume I'm lying...or that you would. What business or concern is it of yours?

So basically, I'm a dick if I say I wouldn't, but right on if I say I would...eh?

So if you had the opportunity to increase your salary and benefits you would just be content with your current salary and benefits package?

Not a single person out there would say no to more money.

Then id suggest you'd be in the minority im afraid because the real world isnt like that, players are in the game to make as much money as they can, the last weeks proven just that, you think Yaya toure left Barcelona for City for anything other than the riches on offer?

This time last week id have said Wayne Rooney plays the game for a genuine love of the sport and money was secondary to him, yet clearly its not, he had his head well and truly turned by riches in other fields as fergie might put it and in the end ended up signing a new deal with a bumper pay rise, end of the day thats the modern game, hes got what he wanted to an extent.....if someone's stupid enough to throw millions at you then players will take it just like if another company rang you up next week and offered to double your current salary whats your first thought? oh im so embarrassed by all this i cant possibly accept that much money? yeah ok.....

I dont for one second believe Wayne Rooneys sitting at home right now thinking "ya know im so embarrassed im now getting 250k a week while many of the country cant even find work" Thats just how it is.

I was being facetious. I'd find it hilarious if the likes of Ronaldo and Rooney were earning £250 a week, though. Either they've lost a grip on reality or perhaps it's us who've become naive - I'm sure most of us would've had our heads turned by someone waving £300k a week under our noses, to be fair. The truth is they're greedy bastards. And we're partly to blame for it.

perhaps that is all it is to you? I don't believe it. Football? Shankly may have said what he did with tongue in cheek. But there was an essence of truth.

to answer what Spoons said about caps.

Nothing wrong with a professional in any trade earning what he can. CEOs and owners do the same. It is about what the market can bear.

They should cap wages at £250 a week.
I'm not sure figure wise but surely a cap would justify the top players getting paid the best amounts. At the moment it just seems like the rich clubs want to keep pushing the barrier unnecessrily which is inflating this wage market. At this rate the next Titus Bramble will be on 100k a week.

There is basically a cap on salaries - you only see a handful of clubs willing to pay 100k or more so the opportunities are very limited. And only the best get those wages, well normally (cough*Joe Cole*cough(supposedly)).

I'm an accountant. I would not feel guilty about getting as much as I can from my employers.

I have a problem about anyone getting less than a living wage for any work they do. But I have no problem about people earning what they can. It is all demand and supply.

Again, so you're willing to make the definitive statement that you know "not a single person out there would say no"...yet you're chastising me for saying I know what I'd do, because "I don't play in professional sport"...

Basically, "You don't know what it's like to be in professional sport so shut up....But I know what it's like to be everyone in the world...Including you"

There are many many people in this world that wouldn't consider moving to a rival because they were offered silly money, and that would feel embarrassed to earn that much for playing sport..And a few more who'd feel bad about extorting it form a company short on cash...I'm sorry that you have such a cynical view of the whole world.

feck your own face.

Rooney is not earning 250,000 Pounds per week, his wages are around 160-165,000 Pounds per week.

That's the bottom line.

I note the 250k/week rumour is gaining traction on here. I hope everyone realises that's not the actual salary mentioned? The salary is 160k/week, the rest is image rights (which isn't usually included when salaries are discussed)

Obviously, 160k/week is an obscene amount of money but let's at least get the figures right.

Question, do you think the current Utd squad is good enough? Does it not need investment? Are Scholes and Giggs going to be carrying on forever? Is Ferguson carrying on forever? Are you not worried we are 720 million pounds in debt?

Now also ask yourself if you where a 25 year old footballer who doesn't support the football club (not doesn't care) would you not be worried by those things in signing a contract taking you through your peak years? Its quite simple Rooney questioned what Utd fans have been questioning for a while now.

Ronaldo fans :wenger:

Feels like we've signed a new player. I've realised I don't really care about him being a cnut. He's a brilliant player and the only thing I've lost is being able to feel like he's a legend.

Brilliant decision by SAF to keep him. Bring on the goals.

Awww, Mockney getting all emotional on the internet again.

Rooney moved to a rival club? I must have missed that.

Nah, it doesn't bother me either. Otherwise I'd feel guilty and give the majority of my wages to a charity everytime I saw a starving African child on TV, for example. On the other hand the types of wages people are getting for kicking a bag of wind up and down a pitch is obscene. But that's market forces for you. Anyway, I'm sure people in some countries would love to swap lives with us....

Exactly. The last two pages have been arguments all based on the fact that he's earning 250k a week which only 1 or 2 rubbish sites have mentioned.

No way would we pay anyone 250k p/w and anyway the more "reputed" papers have all mentioned 140-170k

how do you know how much we are willing to pay to keep Wayne Rooney?
