Yeah, 10 wins on the spin and then a draw v Sheff Wed I think. Some of the football played was sublime. We ended up finishing 4th in a 2 horse race.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 4-1 opening day win v Arsenal set the giddiness levels to maximum, maybe out-giddying cITEH and the scousers for a bit. Coupled with Knighton doing his kick ups infront of the Stretford End, we thought we were about to witness a new age at Utd.

Then reality hit home - we drew 1-1 at Palace then lost 2-0 at Derby, where literally 10,000 reds rocked up to the Baseball Ground. Again, Knighton was on the pitch trying to calm all the fans down! The headline in the Sunday's read "Knighton stops riot" or something similar :)

I think we won our next game 5-1 v Millwall then the game we won't mention ever again happened a week later :(
I think you are mixing up seasons here, he was talking 85-86, you are talking 89-90.

It's not just the fact they're signing Newcastle/Villa level players, it's the fact they're paying Real Madrid/Barcelona level prices for them.
King Kenny knows what he is doing, it's all part of the grand plan.

United could spend £85million on David De Gea, Phi
Ok come clean, which one of you jokers is this then? i picked out my fave bits, whoever it is genius stuff!

Was there any serious intent on our end to sign Jones? I'm well aware that the pro-Man Utd media are painting the whole affair as a 11th hour bid, hijacking our transfer target, but does anybody seriously believe this to be the case? I must admit, when I saw we were linked with the lad I was overcome with excitement at the prospect of having a touted future England captain, despite not having seen him play. I followed twitter intently, I tweeted all my friends, I was giddy like a kid. But hindsight is a wonderful thing. I don't think Kenny ever had any intention of signing him. I think Kenny has gotten Mr Ferguson hook, line and sinker by forcing them to buy out his release clause. I also now think Jones looks pretty shit, and we don't need him after all.

We're all well aware of Man Utd's financial difficulties. What we aren't aware of is how we, Liverpool, can exploit it. For too long now have we laid down and been metaphorically fecked by the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea in the transfer window. Now, under Kenny the situation is reversing. I don't think we ever had any intention of signing Jones -- I think it was a foil. I think that Mr Ferguson is so obsessed with us and our club, that he would do anything within his power to stop us getting our targets. Or players we're pretending are our targets.

Take Ashley Young as an example. I bet Mr. Ferguson is getting his jollies off at the prospect of destroying any potential move here, but quite frankly, what sort of maniac would offer £100k wages per week for a winger who isn't even likely to get a game? We aren't that sort of maniac, I'll tell you that, but it seems Mr. Ferguson is. While Mr. Ferguson is fretting himself and having sleepless nights trying to "steal" Young from us, we're free to move on our intended target: Downing. Downing is the real gem at Villa. And we've fooled Mr. Ferguson, their "fans" and the media all in 1 fell swoop.

You see, I don't think Man Utd have a warchest of anything more than £70m for this transfer window. They've reportedly blown £20m~ on a goalkeeper, while we have the best GK in the world. They've blown £20m+ on a 20~ year old fledgling international (ridiculous money for somebody so young) and are about to blow another £20m on a winger they don't need, and one we don't want. And this is all because of our Kenny.

I genuinely can see Man Utd faltering this year. While they've already squandered £60m+, they are yet to replenish the area that really needs strengthening - midfield. Moreover, while they are now scratching their heads and are wondering where they can get a quality central midfielder for £10m, we are secretly negotiating the transfer of the best central midfielder on the market right now. Step forward Charlie Adam. I can't wait to see Mr. Fergusons face when pro-Man Utd Sky announce this on deadline day.

Look a year back, and how far we've come as a club. Do you honestly think Hodgson could of got us the likes of Charlie Adam? Our Kenny is a genius for reinventing the transfer window. I genuinely believe we have what it takes to stroll to the title this year, while Man Utd will fade into obscurity. With an attack of Suarez/Carroll, flanked by Downing/Kuyt and followed up by Gerrard/Adam, we can really damage any team in the league. And when we unveil Dann (our real target) as our new centreback at the club, the whole country will stop and be overcome with awe. feck your Smallings, your Kellys and that ilk. We have Kelly, Ayala and a whole academy ready to knock you off your perch Mr. Ferguson. And there's nothing you can do about it.
Us and them. The transfer window.

Comedy gold if hes genuine!:lol::lol::lol:

Yes, ten games. I can still recall the excitement! I wasn't as cynical/realistic as you and really thought we were finally going to win the league -- I was really giddy, I have to admit.

With hindsight I might agree we were a bit shite in the 80s, but I never really felt like that back then. Severe disappointments, absolutely -- but to borrow Vulture's expression, we "did put in some proper United performances", didn't we? And Robbo was our captain. I remember those days as great times in many ways, and I can't recall much moaning and bitterness in the support, at least not anything approaching RAWKesque levels.

I suspect the difference is that now every moaner can easily communicate with their fellow moaners all across the globe, feeding off each other. The result is RAWK.

And what a captain Robson was. What a footballer. Even though Liverpool were better than us then, I didn't have the loathing of them I do now.

Is it a rule over there that every post has to end with "And theres' nothing you can do about it".

No doubt about it though we're fecked if they get Dann.

I am sorry Mr Ferguson (from RAWK)

well worth a read and sums up for me what is the ground shifting beneath Whisky Nose's feet

This season has been a fantastic one for me as a Liverpool supporter. I couldn’t have enjoyed everything about it any more. Everything from beating United 4-1, or drawing with stoke City 0-0, to 4 all thrillers with Chelsea and Arsenal respectively. It’s been absolutely fantastic and I’ve loved every single minute of the ups and downs on the pitch.

What’s really stirred me though, what has made me so buoyant about my club, world football and particularly about our future, is the signs this season holds in clear view, in flashing red and white lights for everybody involved in top flight football and indeed for the world to see. What has particularly has fascinated me, has been Mr Ferguson’s reaction.

Before I go on however, I’m still looking no further than the remainder of this season. There’s still so much to play for. It’s unlikely that we will win the title, and yes we know how we love nothing more than to achieve the impossible, but I didn’t expect us to come even this far at the beginning of September. It’s another reason about my joy with this season – I knew it was possible we could do this well, but because I didn’t expect it to be the case makes it much the sweeter. The same way I don’t expect us to win the title, but that’s certainly not to say we aren’t capable of it, I know we are.

And that’s the reason I refuse to lose belief. We may well come off second best but by feck do I want to go down without a fight to the death. We are not going to win feck all unless we fecking want it. We need to absolutely steam roll anyone who stands in our way until it is mathematically impossible for us to clinch it. Put the pressure on the neighbours down the road. That’s the only way they will buckle, if we force them too. Giving up the title now would be like handing it them on a plate. feck….that.

It really will blow one last warning into United’s face for next season, finishing strong this time round. It sends a message loud and clear that we are capable of fighting until the bitter, bitter end, and that’s what they will be up against next season. Not only will Rafa, the players, staff and fans be ferociously snarling and seething at the mouth come September, but United and Fergie will be fully aware that we are psychologically tough and determined enough to throw a full assault at the title next season. Not only that, but Rafa has the summer time to analyse and tinker with this already extremely strong squad; just a few minor adjustments to really let the shackles off.

Mr Ferguson is all too aware of this threat, and this season his ears have pricked and he’s started barking. He and Rafa have never been, how do you say…? As thick as thieves - you could almost taste a strong disliking to one another. Rafa came here as we became his project. The man refuses to be second best. His mentality is to win. The best manager in the world, managing the best team in the world, that he has created and sculpted, and are the dominate force in all European football. That’s his goal over the next 5 years. Doubtlessly.

And how Mr Fergoson disapproves. The media coverage this season between the two has riled me, humoured me, and caused endless debates between me and my mates. As much as it has caused mixed emotions and discussions, it’s intrigued me. It’s fantastic to see Fergie so wound up. He’s rattled alright, big time.

He knows full well that the pressure is on this season. If we carry on the way we have been with the run in we’ve got, he knows we will not stop rampaging through games until the race is done and dusted. He’s spoken out a lot this season, in his usual manner, lacking in discretion, and a full on approach. That’s how he works when his back is up, and it’s held him in good stead for a number of years. Rafa however, is subtle and mischievous in his handling of the media, making his point clear but giving nothing away. Never would you see the man sinking to the desperate lows of calling up his mate and saying “look how Mr Ferguson has disgraced you”. Rafa isn’t here to make friends in the right places and manipulate people, he’s here to fight one on one with whoever stands in his way of dominance.

It is clear Mr Ferguson isn’t just scared of throwing this season away. He’s scared of being knocked off his perch in the long term. The wrath he will face next season as we pounce towards his jugular while he’s still barking away has him massively concerned. That’s why he is barking just so loudly while we stare and snarl with intent. It’s one last desperate attempt to scare off Benitez. One last throw of the dice before the fight threatens his superiority.

Well I’m sorry Mr Ferguson, although I’m not all that apologetic about it. But we are obsessed with that title. We might not win this battle, but the war is just beginning. You’d have to agree though, Mr Ferguson, that surely the war can’t go on all that long? You are an aging dog I’m afraid, Sir. You have to ask yourself the question Mr Ferguson, have you got enough fight in you to compete for the long haul? To finally put United’s name above Liverpool’s? And even if you do somehow manage that Mr Ferguson, how long will it last, given your age? One season? It’s hardly putting Manchester United in a league of their own, in the grand sceme, Mr Ferguson. If I might be so bold.

Even if we don’t win feck all this season ladies and gentleman. We will not fall to pieces. Rafa is bringing back the glory days. And I do apologise Mr Ferguson, but there is feck all you can do about it.

Paul Scholes career assists?

It starts off with a bullshit statement

I remember reading that despite all his goals paul scholes had feck all assists in his career, and was trying to say this to my manc friend who was not having it and claims he definitely has more than gerrard and i said gerrard is at least double him in assists already but been searching for his stats to prove him wrong anybody got a website with this information?
Someone posts some stats

Someone then decides to read the stats in the way they choose
Official Site of the Premier League | Statistics

Select Assists and All Seasons

Gerrard has 76, Paul Scholes 33
lols, Scholes is shit innit
Much appriciated guys :wave

Cant wait to slap this one in his face like i did with lucas been the highest tackler this season!
33 assists

probably 1/10 of the number of times he's hacked someone down on a yellow card and not got sent off, people say he was a great player be he should've spent half his career suspended
Oh what...wait
This link, provided in the second post in the thread, lists Scholes as the 7th highest in the assist ranking since the start of the Premier League with 135 assists.

Where is this 33 number come from?
I highly doubt Scholes has just 33 assists. Scholes has 135 and Gerrard has 123.
Stats are shite and prove nothing anyway
Assists are bollocks and forgets the many times you see the killer ball played the pass before the assist and maybe a bit of brilliance in the build up to say a winger laying a ball across for the tap in. I don't take them that seriously and they don't show the whole picture.
On another note, Giggs has 267 assists in the Premierleague alone

It seems to me that Liverpool fans have forgotten what their club is about. Watching coaches like Pep Guardiola reminds me of Shankley. I remember watching clips of Shankley sitting on the bench moving his arms side to side to instruct his team to pass & move, just like you often see Guardiola do with his Barca side. You see, it was all about how they played the game; pass & move. I remember watching Liverpool in the 80's dominate the English game with this 'unique' style; retaining possession, pass & move. Admittedly it was a lot easier to play in such a way without the back pass rule in those days. But it was the Liverpool way, it was a philosophy. Something to be admired as much as hatred if you were a United fan.
Nowadays Liverpool play a brand of football which would bring tears to Shankley's eyes.

If there was nothing on forward you didn't have to worry about knocking it around the defence because you could just give it to the keeper to pick up and start again from the back.

knocking it around between the defenders and ocassionally the keeper is hardly pass-and-move football

No but if there's nothing else on it can make the difference between losing the ball and retaining posession.

King Kenny knows what he is doing, it's all part of the grand plan.
Dalglish spends £8m at vending machine

LIVERPOOL manager Kenny Dalglish has defended his decision to spend £8m on a bag of crisps and a can of Irn Bru.

He fought off bids from rival managers who were willing to pay up to £1.30 for the snacks and sees the purchase as a sign of Liverpool's renewed ambition.

He continued to stuff cheques into the coin slot of the vending machine until an engineer was called.

Dalglish said: "You've got to understand that there's always a premium for home-grown soft drinks like Irn Bru as they instinctively understand the British way of having lunch. And it's a full sugar can so it's got bags of energy.

"Combined with the crisps - limited edition Marmite flavour so we really had to loosen the purse strings - it's going to go brilliantly with this corned beef roll that I picked up for £20m.

"It's Fray Bentos corned beef so I'm expecting a bit of that South American flair with my dinner today. It's the kind of meal that tells the Chelseas and the Uniteds that we mean exceptionally expensive business."

Assistant Steve Clarke has angrily asked why nobody was monitoring Dalglish while the former Chelsea man was away in Italy being shown around the remains of Aquilani.

Clarke said: "I thought we had learned from January when he was allowed out for an hour to see what was in the John Lewis sale and he came back with a sofa shaped like Andy Carroll that we've no room for?"

The Daily Mash - Dalglish spends £8m at vending machine

On Rafa Benitez...

Ironically we might actually end up being his next English club at this rate. Give it 4-5 years, Kenny decides to retire after winning two European Cups while Rafa wins the other two at.. I dunno, Valencia again I suppose. Kenny gives Rafa his highest recommendation to be his successor and Rafa comes back to where he belongs.

I'm a dreamer, I know

I just find it bizarre that they still rate Benitez. He's a fecking terrible manager and has been for a very long time. It's beyond ridiculous how he's still idolised despite repeated failures both at Liverpool and Inter.

I know two Liverpool supporters and both hate Benitez for what he's done while at Liverpool and over there on RAWK they make poems about him and pray for him to come back? Insane!

I wonder if they'd take him back over King Kenny now?

I think if you asked them which of the two they'd prefer, their heads would explode.
