Ole is playing down the cups but they are more important than he is letting on.

We are a long time without a trophy.

This would be the last season he'd be able to get away without winning one really.

And we will have less winnable trophies next year since it's unlikely we would be in the Europa.

Winning one before we reach 5 years without a trophy would be a massive step

Also no excuses to be knocked out by another team that is worse than ourselves

    ;)

I'd take you up on that bet, especially if Rebic and Leao are out.

Think Kessie is the likeliest to score outside of Zlatan.
Zlatan will be very tough for our defence to handle. Maguire vs Zlatan, two of the aerially most dominant players in Europe.

Was it really though? A nothing game against a lower league team looking to make an impression. I would argue they are more likely to rough up an United player. Milan is a big game. Rochdale wasn’t, yet Ole started a player who wasn’t fit.
Of course it was. Getting roughed up is part of any game anyway, it's not like there aren't thugs at any club of any level. It's about being fit enough to run up and down the pitch, this is a must win game against a much better team.

No Cavani/Martial makes this a fair bit harder.
Martial out as well? Jeez - after his form last season, Greenwood's goals and adding Cavani to the mix, I wasn't expecting the 9 role to be an issue for us this season. It's our weakest link right now.

    Throw Pogba straight back in.

We'll need at least 2 goals, I'd rather go all out and get eliminated than go out with a cowardly approach.

Cavani has to go at the end of the season I’m afraid. Not happy to say that in particular because he’s generally been a class act here, but while his footballing ability hasn’t deteriorated with age, his fitness definitely has.

    Henderson
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Fred
    McT Pogba
    Bruno
    Greenwood Rashford

    Attack them hard. 1-2 United.

Zlatan took part in full training today so he'll feature on Thursday and with others returning/returned Milan are basically full strength for this 2nd leg.
    Full strength?
These players might get called up but all of them are having fitness issues at the moment

    Kjaer
    Zlatan
    Rebic
    Leao
    Bennacer
    Calhanoglu
    Hernandez
    Romagnoli
    Mandzukic
    Tonali
    Calabria
    Diaz

That's almost the full lineup and some of the best reserves.

Calabria won't start and he's the least replacable in the team.
We will have a stronger bench this time, but the starting lineup will probably be weaker if you factor in form.

We got 1 choice up front, its Rashford and Greenwood, can see same team that played on Sunday starting, Pogba bench bring him on around 60 mins if we need a goal. 0-1 we go through.

But still, with the possibility that Ibra plays, he is one of those few players who can make his team win any game.

Hope Ole can pull a miracle like the one against PSG in Paris. But I do not think we can win this one.

Martial confirmed out and the injury prone Cavani picked up another injury in training today and won't be travelling.

Bailly has some knock so a possibility of the Lindelof, Maguire pairing again.

Possible changes to starting 11 from the first leg?

Out - Henderson, Bailly, Telles, Matic, Martial

In - DeGea, Lindelof, Shaw, Fred, Rashford

Yeah Cavani can go, he's proving just as injury prone as I expected sadly. You want him fit for these key games, the business end of the season, and where is he. He's been great when fit, but that doesn't happen enough to make another year worth it at the expense of making a more reliable striker signing.

    I'd go for a 433 with a false 9.

Get Pogba in the team and Bruno as the false 9.

We need goals. No point trying to grind out a 1-0.

Start Pogba and if we are losing 3-0 then take him off. No point subbing him on if we need to chase the game. Get right at them from the start. I would be tempeted to see Bruno start at false 9 with Paul behind him, Rashy and Greenwood on either side

Martial being out actually strengthens our chances as it is less likely he will be on the field of play.

With Cavani and Martial out this is a really big game for Mason. I'd definitely start Pogba as we need a boost and we need to score, he's one of the few creative players we have.

Think we would win with that, hopefully pogba is fit enough to start. Wont be an easy game but hopefully we can get a positive result.

Any sort of win and we are through yeah? I'm pretty confident in our away form and our players taking our chances

I am really spending too much time on the caf, so some time off it would let me focus on more important things. So I propose following: if Zlatan scores, I will not post on here for 2 weeks. If he does not, you will switch to read-only mode for the same period, deal? A harmless bet that would add extra fun to tomorrow's game.

I remember Maguire being excellent against Zlatan for Hull, which left me baffled why we didn't go for him for £15m that summer. Hopefully more of the same. I think we're going to struggle to score though, that last minute goal was a killer for us.
