Would be really fecking great to take a commanding lead back to OT.

I'd be content with a score draw but we can certainly win this.

I'd rather we start this aggressively in a 4-2-3-1 formation rather a more defensive 4-3-3. I don't expect Mou to be so adventurous, yet he might surprise us.

It's my birthday today, so a United win would be the perfect present.

I reckon you could be pretty much spot on here mate.

The only possible change would be Martial for either Mkhi or Lingard.

Martial looked good off the bench against Sunderland, he deserves to start this one.

Micki's been superb in EL, so I'm pretty sure he starts. Lingard/Martial is 50/50, true. This being an away game, I could see José preferring Lingard as he's perhaps a bit better defensively.

Glad we're home second. A couple of goals tonight should see them have to come out of the blocks next week, meaning we shouldn't have too many of the issues we've been having in the league.

I can't even begin to guess our line-up anymore, so much drama and rotation and so many injuries it's not even worth the effort.

We kinda have to score tonight, because we all know it'll be a draw at OT, and if it's a scoring draw we're screwed. Just hope they don't sit back too much.

Actually all the injuries make it much easier to predict imo. We've got two CBs left, Mata being out means one less attacking midfielder to pick from etc.

This is true, it's just hard to keep up with them and who might be back etc.

My doubt concerns the left-back. Although I would welcome Shaw's choice, I still feel Mourinho might be tempted to go with Blind (who's been awful lately) or Darmian.

Each Anderlecht player will get a 40K bonus if they progress. It was 20K against Zenit and 30K against Apoel Nicosia.

Nine players are in danger of missing the return leg due to suspension: Spajic, Nuytinck, Teodorczyk, Hanni, Acheampong, Dendoncker, Tielemans, Thelin and Sowah.

Expected team - Rubén; Appiah, Kara, Spajic, Obradovic; Dendoncker, Tielemans, Hanni; Chipciu, Thelin, Bruno (at least according to today's papers).

Nice to know about the players in danger of missing, their midfield all at risk. Bruno ahead of Stanciu?

What about United, who's on the verge of missing a game through a yellow?

Can't remember the last time I saw Anderlecht but clearly we need to go with our strongest possible team. We're unlikely to beat Chelsea on Sunday and not sure it will make much difference if we do. But don't know enough about the Belgians to predict a score line.. but any chance we can persuade them to take Fellaini home in the summer?:lol:

Second tier is even weirder. Team that got the most points in second division this season didn't even get a chance for promotion. Was decided by a play-off between the team that got the most points in the first half of the season and the team with the most points in the second half. Apparently consistency doesn't matter anymore.

Play-off system in the first division should be changed in the future. Was designed to improve the quality of Belgian top teams (and get more TV-money) but in reality it punishes the teams that progress in the Europa League. You can understand English teams choosing their domestic league over the EL, but when a Belgian team is tempted to prioritize their league over the EL, you know something has to change.
What about the situation with Zulte Waregem, it's even more fecked up. They've already qualified directly for the Europa group stage by winning the cup, yet if they finish second in their play-off this will change into a ticket for the third qualifying round for the CL. Lose that round and they won't play European football at all. So if by the end of the play-off they have a chance to end up in second position, they're better off losing on purpose to finish third or worse! It's utter madness.

Was the same when we played Bilbao in Europa League. Only one or two names in the team but they destroyed us because we were not ready.

Don't forget that we were awful this season at Rotterdam, even poorer at Istanbul, and we were not that good at Saint-Etienne or Rostov.

Every one of our away games this season (in Europe) have been poor.

Even Saint-Etienne should have scored at Old Trafford, and if we remember our game at Rostov... It was... was magnificent in terms of qualities.

And then our last frustrating game at Old Trafford against Rostov.

What I mean is that we'll face trouble tonight, as usual, and we'll find it hard to break teams at home, that's the story of the season.

I just hope a switch of mentality, where big guns like Ibra, Pogba and Mkhi start producing in Europe and give us the qualification tonight.

I don't want a open (or maybe) second leg, I want to close the tie down tonight

Bailly (even though he got suspended for the red, it was for 2 yellows and one carried over) and Herrera is the other.

Bailly better behave himself. With Smalling and Jones out for god knows how long we'll probably end up with Blind and Rojo at CB if Bailly gets suspended.

wllling to bet Jose won't pick Shaw to start
I wouldn't bet the other way tbh. @ChaddyP had a good point earlier on Mou wanting one fullback to stay back, I'm just going with my good feeling on Shaw this time, he certainly is able to stay back if instructed anyway.

I hope he starts to be honest. But if you really look at how we play one of the full backs stay back as a 3rd center back so Bailly can cover the right hand side when we are hit on a counter. If Shaw can prove to be measured whenever valencia is forward and know when he can go fwd himself without affecting balance then he will start more games. This is probably what Jose means when he says Shaw needs to learn how to read the game.
