    AZ with a comfortable win.

Meh competition - sooner we are out the better.
As our league form deteriorates further expect to see greater importance placed on the Europa! Much easier route to Champions League qualification so why not?

    We couldn't beat Rochdale mate.

Fans need to realise we have absolutely no chance of winning this tournament or CL football in general. Our priority should be finishing as high up the fecking league table as we humanly can so future signings might see a glimmer of progress at the club.
The competition in this will be a lot stronger than when we won it under Jose and we have a weaker squad I would say, or in number at least.

It's delusional to think we can win this. We would need to play our first team in every knockout game and pray for good luck.

Make no mistake, this is going to be a tough game. AZ are in the form of their life. They're only 1 point off Ajax and PSV in the league and have recently trashed Feyenoord 0-3 away from home. They've played some very good footy this season. We on the other hand are in poor form with half our first eleven out injured and others just coming back from injuries. Hopefully Gomes is fit enough to get a chance here though he too is just coming back from injury so I'm not sure he is ready to start just yet.

The match day thread only starting today a sign of the times?

Alkmaar are in good form, 3rd in the Dutch league table just 1 point off table toppers Ajax. Their only defeat was to Vitesse 2-1 who won with a 96th minute penalty. They recently beat a decent side in Feyenoord 3-0 away and in their opening Europa league game they did really well to earn a draw away to Partizan with 10 men for 60 minutes.

Ole has said the starting line up with have a mixture of youth and experience. I think that will mean starts for Tuanzebe,Greenwood (youth) and Mata,Matic (experience) the latter starting only makes any United line up even weaker.

In United's current form i'll be surprised and pleased with a win but i'll be also happy with a draw.

You realise this is for the CL next season not this season? So your point about not being good enough is irrelevant when plenty can change in a year.
Oh Jesus Christ we'll go from struggling against Rochdale to CL contenders in a year will we? Just disregard the carnage of the last 6 years will we ?
Things will change but not that much.

Have a day off mate.

Some miserable and thoroughly boring cnuts on the Caf at the moment. If literally all you can be is negative why post? At least don't make every single one so unashamedly shite. Things are far from rosy but just give it a rest. Please.

A draw will be enough and a good result as well I think. I haven't watched them this season but only read good things about them. I hope we go in full throttle in this game and don't understimate them.

I wish we'd start with a fairly solid back four (based on what is available) so the attacking players can try to get a clue.
    Romero
    Young Tuanzebe Maguire Rojo
    Fred
    McT Gomes
    Mata Greenwood James

    1-0 United

This is no guarantee with our current form but the optimist in me hopes we can go and find some goals here, god knows we need to get some sort of positive run going. C'mon United!

The big question is, will Rojo play for United again?

    Romeo
    Dalot Tuanzebe Maguire Rojo
    Fred Matic
    Lingard Mata Chong
    Greenwood

    ----------Romero-----------
    Dalot-Tuanzebe-Jones-Rojo
    ---------Matic-Fred---------
    Chong-----Mata-----Gomes
    --------Greenwood----------

Should be enough to at least get a point IMO. Just keep Pogba, Rashford away from the squad and let them heal properly.
    Isn't Jones injured?

I'd love to see Gomes out wide, but I'm certainly not gonna predict it until we see it!

Here's the traveling squad, if it hadn't been posted:

Our travelling squad: David De Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant; Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Axel Tuanzebe, Marcos Rojo, Brandon Williams; Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, Fred, James Garner, Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Angel Gomes, Daniel James; Tahith Chong, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood.

    What I want:

    Romero
    Dalot Tuanzebe Rojo Williams
    McTominay Garner
    Chong Gomes Lingard
    Greenwood
Decent team except for shitty spice on the left there and red hot chilli pepper next to Tuanzebe.

    I'd go with:
    Romero
    Dalot Tuanzebe Lindelof Rojo
    Matic Fred
    Chong Mata Gomes
    Greenwood

A mix of experience and youth plus giving more game time to the ones that need it. If things go well i'd expect Garner and maybe even that Brandon guy seeing some minutes; if it doesn't go well, then Lingard and Rashford to come on.

Were not ready for the CL.
Cant see why there is so much Clamour for it until we vastly improve.

Get the foundation built and do it right.
Having CL football would help to attract the likes of Sancho and other good players. Not having it is a hindrance to the rebuilding process.

People were saying this before the Arsenal game. Plus Ole has already been complaining about their pitch.
Oh come on. We dont have to over rate 2nd tier opposition.
We dont have enough goal scorers.. the ones we do have are not fit.. I dont expect us to score 5.. but we'll be fine.

After two or 3 seasons maybe. Right now it's a fallacy to think CL football is whats needed. Long run yes but for now it's back to basics
Build the solid core. Go from there

I'm guessing his point is having CL football would accelerate the building of the solid core..

From reading above looks like we might be in for quite a game. Hoping to score a few here but
considering our form am not very confident.

    Think we will play:

    -------------Romero-------------

    Dalot--Tuanzebe--Maguire--Rojo

    --------McTominay--Fred--------

    ----Lingard--Gomes--James----

    ---------Greenwood--------------

Yeah, after seeing how good AZ look, I've gone with more experience. It will be a very tricky line up to guess. Hardest away game in the group.

    Dalot Tuanzebe Maguire Rojo
