Alkmaar Zaanstreek, better known as AZ Alkmaar or simply AZ, is a Dutch professional football club from Alkmaar and the Zaanstreek. The club plays in the Eredivisie, the highest professional football league in the Netherlands, and hosts home matches at the AFAS Stadion.

AZ was founded on 10 May 1967 as AZ '67, the result of a merger of Alkmaar '54 and FC Zaanstreek. Alkmaar '54 was founded as a professional team in April 1954 to play in the 10-team NBVB league, created because the KNVB refused to organize a professional league. FC Zaanstreek had been playing since 1910 as the Kooger Football Club (KFC). KFC had nearly become National Champion in 1934 through a narrow loss to Ajax in the finals. The team became professional in 1955. In 1964 the professional part of KFC was renamed FC Zaanstreek, while the amateurs played on as KFC.

AZ has won the Eredivisie twice, in 1980–81 under Georg Keßler and 2008–09 under former United manager Louis Van Gaal. In the same season as their first league title, they also reached the UEFA Cup Final, which they lost to Ipswich Town. In addition, the team has won the KNVB Cup on four occasions.

We have a game in 24hrs and nobody cares haha. The apathy is just suffocating this club at the moment, and rightly so. Anyway, I just had a look at AZ's results of late and they seem like the type of team we struggle against - IE - Not shit.

    -------------------------Romero---------------------------
    Dalot-----------Tuanzebe-------Jones-----------------Rojo
    -----------------Fred------------Matic---------------------
    --------------------------Mata------------------------------

SUBS - Gomes (Lingard), Pereira (James), Williams (Rojo)

    AZ Alkmaar 1 - 1 Man United

My mind call 1-1 but I stay positive, 2-1 for United Greenwood scores 2 goals to put himself as a starter in Newcastle Game.

AZ have won their last four games, currently third in the Eredivisie, I'll be surprised if they don't beat us.

4231: Romero, Dalot, Tuanzebe, Jones, Williams; Fred, Garner; Chong, Gomes, James; Greenwood.

Tiny bit too young? Still what I'd like to see. Maybe Young instead of Williams.

    Hopefully we'll get 2 or 3 goals.

I want to see Williams, Tuanzebe and Greenwood on the pitch above all else. Bit of excitement like.

    Fancy us to draw 1-1.

    Pogba not travelling.

Brandon Williams and Angel Gomes both are.

Chong and Garner played in the EFL Trophy yesterday. I think we'll see Matic and possibly Mata. Jones is injured so might see a partnership with Tuanzebe and Rojo.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if we come away with a comfortable win.

Expecting a loss or draw. We don't have a great record against Dutch teams at the best of times if I recall and they'll be well up for it. An ex player has them favorites, they just have to ignore the name of the club and look at what they're playing against.

travelling squad: David De Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant; Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Axel Tuanzebe, Marcos Rojo, Brandon Williams; Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, Fred, James Garner, Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Angel Gomes, Daniel James; Tahith Chong, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood.

Fecking hell that's a lot of senior players travelling

Would have personally left DDG, Maguire and Rashford in Manchester

    Team should be....

    ---------------Romero---------------
    Dalot---Tuanzebe---Lindelof---Rojo
    ----------Fred---------Matic----------
    Lingard----------Mata----------James
    --------------Greenwood--------------

Subs: Grant, Maguire, Garner, McTominay, Gomes, Chong, Rashford

I dont think it's right to play as many youth team players away from home against an established Dutch team. At home against them fair enough but not at their ground

Young and Pogba the only two fit prominent senior players left behind at first glance.

I want Fred to start, we're so desperate for another midfield option he needs to get match fit so he can play PL games. Other than that a decent result (!), decent performance (!!) and maybe a goal or two (!!!) would be nice.

Don't think Martial is expected back until after the international break. So has Pogba's injury been aggravated playing the other night?

Worth editing the title and OP to include the early bullshit kick-off time.

Match is on at 17:55 BST and 16:55 UTC

Hope to see Williams, Tuanzebe, Greenwood & Gomes starting. Shame Garner played as I'd liked to have seen him in there too, bugger it.

Outside of that fill the gaps with warm bodies, rest DDG, Maguire, Pogba & Rashford.

When you look at that squad without Pogba and Martial it really is terrible.

I mean, even with both in It's bad, but still...

I see this one being won by AZ. United have struggled against Dutch teams in the last years; AZ is in a positive flow with some great talents - especially with an attack like Boadu, Stengs, Idrissi); for AZ this is one of the biggest matches of the season, whereas for United AZ is not very appealing (thus a difference in motivation); the match is played on a fake grass that United isn't accustomed to... So I see AZ winning this. not comfortably, but still. 2-1.

AZ 67 is currently on better form than Ajax.

On our current form, at their turf, I still expect us to play slightly better than them, but will be content with a draw. Depending on what team we put out.

    Tip:
    Romero
    Dalot Tuanzebe Maguire Rojo
    Fred Matic
    Pereira Mata James
    Greenwood

    1-1 Mata

The roof of the AZ ground broke down a while ago so AZ play in Ado den Haag their stadium (Cars Jeans Stadion) and that stadium has a artificial pitch.

Im happy Pogba isnt playing on that when he is already injured and basically already played two games through injury (not caring huh?). Hopefully Rashford also wont play but with Ole as manager his Rashy will always play... so hopefully that goes well.

Az is pretty good. Good football and some very talented players. Stengs and Boadu are both going to be sold for 20mil each atleast (a lot for Dutch clubs excluding Ajax and maybe PSV). Koopmeinders is also a good young player. I think all three of them will be part of the national team one day. (Maybe Wijndal too) Stengs should have been invited already imo.

I wouldnt actually be that suprised if AZ wins the game....

I'm guessing Gomes and Dalot are still out with injury and Chong and Garner played yesterday so that likely rules them out. I'll guess at the below but wouldn't be surprised if "Rashy" started.

More fun than Champions "The Usual Suspects" League. This is the real tournament with real teams with real fans who have some kind of dignity still left in them. I'm very much looking forward to this. Hopefully, Williams will start and Gomes as well.

    Romero
    Dalot, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Williams
    Garner, Fred
    Chong, Gomes, James
    Greenwood

    Please. Won't happen though.

Should be enough to at least get a point IMO. Just keep Pogba, Rashford away from the squad and let them heal properly.
